The Pistons vs. The Timberwolves

The Pistons vs. The Timberwolves

The 3-11 Pistons are in Minnesota to take on the 5-8 Timberwolves, who just offered their anchor Kevin Love a reported 4 year 70 million dollar contract extension.

“Last season it took the Timberwolves 23 games to record six victories but with the lowly Pistons (3-11) in town, Minnesota has a very good chance to reach that mark much sooner.”  The Pistons are “lowly” according to NBA.com and I have to agree.

  • The good:
  • Sadly, I’m more excited to see what Ricky Rubio has to offer than anything Detroit has been doing lately. Just being real.

  • The bad: Detroit! No Charlie V who didn’t make the trip and Will Bynum is still listed as day to day.
  • The unknown: Will Greg Monroe bounce back after scoring just 4 last night going up against Kevin Love? Ricky Rubio vs. Brandon Knight…who’s going to win the battle of the rookies?

The Pistons will be back in town again this weekend, and you can see them take on either Memphis or Portland for as little as 3 dollars!

Tip off is at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports.  Matt Dery will be talking to Joe Dumars at 7:10 on 97.1 The Ticket, Matt doesn’t mess around, be sure to tune in and listen.

Another beatable team for the Pistons, but the Pistons rank 30th in points and rebounding so far this season.
That says it all in my mind.
It does not matter who starts or who the coach is,
they can not win many games with the current roster.
Hopefully their younger players will improve over the course of the season.
Hopefully they clean house and get rid of their dead weight from their roster for 2012-2013.
Hopefully they draft and sign some free agents players that can start next year also.

Okay, so using my NBA Stats Tracker tool, here’s what I’ve got.

    Timerwolves win on:
PPG, PAPG, FG%, RPG, ORPG, SPG and BPG

    Pistons win on:
3P%, FT%, TPG, APG and FPG

Still, even with our better percentages on 3 pointers and free throws, they get more 3s and FTs down per game. Which makes sense, judging by our 85PPG to their 94.7PPG.

Our best ranking in the league as a team? FT%. We’re 3rd. But when it comes to actually getting to the line and making them, we’re 19th. Next best ranking is our low fouls per gam (18.7, 8th in league). Next one’s 3P% (.354 which makes us 12th in the league), but we don’t shoot enough from there, the stats say, because even our 12th best 3P% makes us 22nd in 3P efficiency.

And we’re still at the bottom when it comes to PPG, RPG and BPG. Absolute bottom.

those wolves commentators sure know how to diss an opposing team.

Felt like the wolves took most of the game off. But then they remembered it was just the pistons. So they put it in overdrive in the fourth quarter and won. Sadly, the pistons were stuck first gear. After all no matter how fast you pedal a tricycle it still only has one gear.

I’ve noticed that when teams play against the pistons they think they are so much better than us, they can play like it’s a shootaround and still win.
