UPDATE: Final Score
Pistons 98 Dallas 101
Another great game from Daye.
The Pistons are at sort of at home tonight to take on the Mavericks. Their yearly trip to Grand Rapids Van Andel Arena is upon us. If you have never been to one of the Pistons games in GR, you’re missing out. Though a pre-season game, the fans are so excited to see their favorite team playing in their hometown that it’s a playoff like atmosphere.
Though not televised, I’m hoping that fans that are at the game tonight will stop by and let us know how the game went.
Tip off is at 7pm. You can follow the game live on NBA.com or listen on the radio at 97.1 The Ticket.
Nowitzki, Kidd, and Butler are all out. McGrady and Wilcox out. Have to win this one.
Looks like our kids are playing pretty well early.
Charlie seems to be falling deeper down in the rotation unless they holding him back due to injury again.
Still if he doesn’t perform he will find himself out of the rotation anyway.
NBA.com is not updating the Pistons scores…going by the Pistons twitter. Sounds like Daye is having a good game. Stuckey had a solid first half.
You’re right, Keith, for all the off season work that Villanueva has put in, he has to start putting the performances on the board. At this stage, I would say Daye is leading the race to grab Jerebko’s vacated minutes.
This Novak faggot keeps hoisting up threes and making them. Seriously, how hard is it for us to guard the line? Dallas’s third-stringers sound like household names tonight 🙁
Defending the 3 has been a problem for the Pistons for years.
At least the young guns have been playing well and managed to stay out of foul trouble which is excellent in this game.
Think the combination of Monroe and Daye definitely look like they may well take Charlie’s minutes but we will see. Closer to the regular season we will get a better idea of what Coach Q will give us re minutes and personally i think the youth movement is going to get the shaft.
Call it a hunch but i hope i am wrong.
The Pistons have been making scrubs look like all-stars since Billups left. I know that sometimes guys just have good nights, but when you are consistently losing games because of a performance from a no-name player, you have a major problem. Still, it is preseason. I like the fact that Daye is being consistent. Monroe’s stats don’t jump off the board at you, but it doesn’t look like he did much wrong. DaJuan Summers had a nice game; he was big in that last quarter. Ben Gordon is continuing a nice preseason. Will Bynum is developing a really nice three point shot.
I think (maybe more hope) that Kuester gives Villanueva a game or two where he might make some mistakes, but he gets to play 25-30 minutes and play himself into a rhythym. I think the 5 minutes tonight might be injury-related, but he needs a game or two in the preseason to show what he can do.
austin daye 3 for 6, holy cow the man is unconscious, this guy is 50% from the three. This is Steve Nash territory. Honestly, daye should not be in the SF position, put him at the 2 along with rip, t-mac, ben gordon, hell put half the team there, lol
Well Q. What do you do with a team made up entirely of small forwards and shooting guards?
And the answer is not “uptempo” because none of these guys can run the court:
Daye, Prince, Monroe, Charlie V
Here’s my recommendation: go grab mcdyess from the spurs. He’s so depressed there, he’ll have a lot more fun on the pistons. And it’s not like the spurs will win a championship. We love you in the D Dice! I’d love to see him retire as a piston.

A colleague was relating to me the locker room scene after the Piston’s 2009 dismissal by the Cavs in the first round. In a locker room of apathetic, disaffected malcontents, Antonio McDyess was devastated. His best chance at a championship down the drain. “Dyess” could barely speak to reporters, but said he wasn’t sure if he’d be coming back. Turns out, he did come back. He returned to the NBA with the Spurs for another championship run, another run that fell short as the previous ones had.
Now, at age 36, and with the Spurs vying for one last desperate shot at the ring, McDyess says this is it for him. Dyess, from the San Antonio Express-News:
“I didn’t know what to expect when they signed me (in 2009), and I’m glad to be back,” McDyess said, “but I think this is it. I’m the oldest player (on the Spurs) now, and I feel like it. I’m not trying to see any more years. I’m pretty sure this is it.”

Here’s my recommendation: go grab mcdyess from the spurs. He’s a quality big that would ensure lots of extra wins for the pistons. He’s so depressed there, he’ll have a lot more fun on the pistons. And it’s not like the spurs will win a championship. We love you in the D Dice! I’d love to see him retire as a piston. And as far as I can tell, we are so far from a championship that it doesn’t matter much this whole “rebuilding” process. Let’s just try to win some games and have fun watching our pistons. In that vein, I would like to see t-mac get minutes, I’m starting to think he is def injured, otherwise he would have put in at least 20 minutes just to get the work.

oops sorry I posted twice!
Went to the game last night and although they lost it was still fun. I usually make one trip to the D for a game each year, but other than that this is the only time I see the Pistons live. Dirk was there but he never played. He just sat on the sidelines the whole time. Don’t know if Kidd was there or not, I never saw him. The best player they put out there during the game was Terry. So basically the Pistons were playing against the Dallas bench. I agree with everyone else. Daye looks like a pretty good player. It’s to the point where he shoots the 3 and I expect it to go in every time.
I wasn’t too impressed with Stuck and CV was his normal self, in limited minutes. I still fail to understand why they had to pick this guy up. He’s not a good defender and even though he claims to have worked on his game all summer, he still can’t post up to save his life. Someone explain to me why they signed this guy to a 5 YEAR deal. Pretty much the best post up guy on the team is sadly Greg Monroe. He posted up a few times last night and was mildly successful. Hopefully he’ll learn that in the NBA you have to go at the basket hard otherwise you’ll get hacked or blocked every time. At least he didn’t commit stupid fouls.
Basically I think this will be a below average team this year. Their defense is nothing to brag about, but not terrible, and their offense is just awful, which is completely on the coaches. They pass the ball around to try and find open guys, but nobody is ever open which to me means that no one is moving without the ball. And to top it off they have virtually no one to throw the ball to down low , which means they’ll be extremely easy to defend because their offense is so predictable.
My prediction is that they’ll maybe eek into a playoff spot, but most likely not. And also I think that Keuster will finish out the year and then get canned. There has to be better coaches out there than this guy. And lastly I’m really disappointed that Joe D did NOTHING to make this front court better other than drafting Monroe. It’s soooo obvious that it is their biggest need and yet the front court roster is almost a mirror image to last years team.
Oh well, you can’t be good all the time. I just hope that the young guys have a lot of chances to play and get better and that some sort of trade happens that thins out the back court. But unfortunately I think we’ll be seeing a lot of L’s this season….again.
I went to this game and here’s my take:
Daye – Bright spot. Playing confident and with passion. One of the smoothest strokes I’ve seen. Looking forward to watching him make a name for himself in the D this season.
DeJuan – He’s got the talent and the body, but not the basketball IQ or the effort needed.
Greg Monroe – Plays well / makes good decisions. Could use stronger legs. Hope he holds up for all 82 – we’ll need him.
Bynumite – His contract was a STEAL. Instant offense / smart & energetic player. Freshest kicks on the court.
Stucktacular – Really coming into the PG position. Great passing and court vision. Now with 3 point range!
Chuck V – I’m giving him this season to prove himself, but I’m close to giving him the nickname “Worthless Black Hole”. He does play both ends of the floor though, but only half of the floor – after one of many ill-advised jacks, he’ll be the only guy putting on full court pressure on then goes to sleep when he crosses half court to set up the D.
BG – Unlike CV, I think he’ll really come on this year and prove himself as a great all around player. He can score at will – we’ll see that if he stays healthy this year. His D and passing is never mentioned, but it looks to be a pretty solid part of his game.
TMac – He was hanging with Arnie all game – doing leg lifts and extensions. Not sure what to expect at all from him, but buddying up with Arnie’s his only hope.
Side notes:
Hooper’s looking more agile and athletic – must have hit the off-season hard with Arnie
DeShawn Stevenson’s jersey is now no. 92. Yes, 92!
Where’s Kwame Brown when you need him?
id rather have a member of the pistons automotion than kwame back again. Sure he has size, but his hands are so bad it’s like he’s playing for the other team.
In fact, I rather have darko than kwame, sad to say . . .
It is the ultimate battle of mediocrity, but I reckon Darko still could turn out to be better than Kwame. I think he might be able to do something with consistent minutes at the Timberwolves.
darko is better than kwame from day 1 real talk.
Funny, but yeah I’d take Darko.
its just only a pre season games…i dont care if the pistons will loss.the important is if the regular season start and tmac will play the pistons are in good shape…
