In David Aldridge’s NBA.com article chronicleing the ‘Melo saga he threw in this line.
“A league source said Denver had made a recent attempt to pry Detroit guard Rip Hamilton from the Pistons without success to show Anthony that the organization could still put talented players around him.”
Most Pistons fan would think this was possible considering the fact that Rip and Chauncey are 2 peas in a pod but Pistons insiders don’t buy this one.
Just follow Matt Dery @deryNBA as well as M’Live’s Chris Iott @Chris_Iott and the Vincent Goodwill @vgoodwill of the Detroit News on Twitter for the inside scoop.
If you really think about it, what could Denver offer Detroit for Rip? Rip has 38 million over the next three seasons. To keep Mello, Chancey, Rip together they would have to give up Nene and more which I doubt would happen.
Trust Matt and the gang…this one is doesn’t work.
UPDATE: From Chris Iott of MLive
“A source with the Detroit Pistons said today that there is absolutely no truth to the report that the Denver Nuggets tried to acquire Pistons guard Richard Hamilton in a last-ditch effort to keep Carmelo Anthony in Denver.”
if we have to trade rip, i hope he goes to denver
Trade Rip and Tay to Denver for Melooooo (if possible)
Stuck, Bynum
T-Mac, Gordon
Melo, Daye
New Villanueva, Jonas brother
Same Ole Big Ben, Max, Monroe
Result = Another Pistons Squad every team will be afraid to play
Yes!! That would be sweet!!! T-Mac can still hit big shots and Pass the ball well, Gorden should not be on the bench must be starting thats why he can’t get in his groove like in Chicago!!! Charlie V!!! lol He needs to stop play soft in paint!! He need to get mad for real!! Rip and Tay need to go…Not that there bad players but when A.I came into town they acted like cry baby’s B/C Mr. Big Shot went to Denver..They acted like they forgot how to play!!! SMDH..lol But I would love to see sheed back in a Piston Jersey!!! He is still a Beast and My Favorite Play of all time!! COME BACK SHEED!!! THEY NEED YOU AND YOUR TO YOUNG TO BE RETIRED!!!!
Melo is not coming to Motown. I hope a trade does go down because we seriously need to move a guard and or small forward. I say we move RIP and keep Prince up until the trade deadline.
People are looking at it in terms of a straight up trade for Rip but as you see with the potential Denver Nets deal brewing multiple teams seem to be involved that could be an opportunity for Detroit. Even when Denver trades Melo they will still likely need a dependable scoring guard, and who better to compliment Chauncey than Rip and vice versa. In trading Carmelo Denver will at least walk away with Derek Favors, a first round pick, and probably another forward of some sort, if Detroit can offer up Rip, Max, Summers, maybe even Prince who’s to say we couldn’t pry away Favors, and a Chris Anderson, maybe even a draft pick of some sort. That deal would benefit both teams because the Nuggets aren’t ready to rebuild yet so the addition of a respected veteran at the 2 and 3 along with a couple role players could be ideal. Even if Detroit only comes out of it with Favors, and a pick it’s a win, adding a young big and clearing up the log jam at the 2 and 3 spot for us. Even if think Favors is unrealistic, there are many other options especially when you bring in other teams to make it work. I’m just saying.
IF you can turn Hamilton into Favors and a draft pick, thanks for all your services to Detroit, Rip, but you have to pull that trigger surely. Favors/Monroe for the next 10 years – GOLD!
