Iverson may be back early – The Detroit Free Press
“I’m disappointed that the soreness I’m feeling in my back is going to force me to miss two weeks of action,” Iverson said in the statement. “After talking with the doctors at Georgetown yesterday they have told me that treatment and rest is the best course of action right now. Hopefully my back with heal and I’ll be ready to go following this two-week period.”
Iverson also said he had no problem with returning as a reserve.
“My goal is to help this team win a championship and I’ve said that from the first day I arrived here in Detroit,” he said in the statement. “I’m going to do whatever it takes to help us achieve our goals as a team regardless if I’m starting or coming off the bench.”
Allen Iverson is saying all the right things, lets just hope he fully recovers and flourishes in his new role on the team. AI off the bench can be deadly, lets just hope he buys in.
Looks like his publicist wrote him out a nice letter. I’ll believe it when I see it. I think we all have a right to be skeptical. We all know what this team is capable of and it’s more then 2 games over .500.
Well put Travis
that second unit is going to be fun to watch! hope things work out… the playoffs are going to be interesting… if the Pistons get in the right groove at the right time… they could make it 7 years in a row 😉
If he would actually embrace the role and go at it head on I think we could be an incredibly dangerous team. That’s easier said than done, of course, so I guess we’ll have to see how it works out. If he doesn’t then we just need to shut him down for the rest of the year, because we’re definitely better without him than with him in a major role. I would really like to see what we can do with him in a supporting role, though.
u guys need to understand that we need him if we wanna make any kind of splash these play offs, we’re the same team as last years play offs -chauncey/+kwame. thats not gonna cut it, now with him off the bench it gives us different identity, not to mention he’s a play off warrior who will leave everything on the floor like mcdyess.
if by some magic we’re playin ATL or MIA first round and then somehow god has mercy and we get orlando in 2nd round we can make it to ECF, im not hopin for a title but keepin this ECF streak alive would be nice.
Wow its pretty sad that all you guys think about is ECF. That’s y the pistons alawys lost at the ECF cuz no one expects them to go further on?
For some ou you other Allen Iverson haters, that don’t want him to play, don’t think pistons are going to go so far without chauncey in the lineup. This was suppose to be a championship season. Allen Iverson is trying more than anyone. A hall of famer coming off the bench? Thsi is a harder decision than rip had to made. Iverson will score of the bench and pistons will win a title.
One of the reasons the Pistons shipped Chauncey was that they had ample opportunities to win a title and only capitalized on one. Iverson has to try more than anyone, he’s 5’10”, just like Jameer Nelson and Muggsy Bogues and Spudd Webb and Earl Boykins have to try that much harder. Swallow your pride, Iverson. Rip did it with class.
Iverson is 6’0″ not 5’10″…and the pistons will have no chance at doing anything in the playoffs without iverson…he is a superstar that is great in the playoffs…in career playodd points per game he in 2nd all time only behind jordan…you can’t put a hall of famer on the bench that’s just absurd…its obvious that curry is a rookie coach…he should buold the team around iversons special abilities and that way they will win a title…he’s a unique player that has to make shots for himself, not come off screens like hamilton and the pistons need to realize that…they have been playing the same detoit pistons bsketball for the past 6 years and its gotten them nowhere! Its time for a change and iverson is that change, and if they don’t realize that then they mite as well get rid of him
