“Those type of plays are hustle plays,” Johnson said. “I’m just the garbage man trying to stop the other team from getting a bucket.” Via The Detroit Free Press

After Detroit’s 95-91 OT win in their first pre-season game, many of you were looking for a starting Amir to light up the box score, but it was the little things he does that make him valuable on the floor.

obviously, this is exhibition, but i never like to see chauncey turn the ball over 6 times or see sheed go 1-7 from the 3p line. hopefully, this is not a sign for things to come.

Honestly I dont care how the vets do in the pre season, and i definetly dont care what chuancey does when the young stud stuckey is tearing it up. 23pts 5 rbs 4 asts i think, and 7/7 from the line, and clutch hoops, i dont care if this is only pre season, thats what i love to see from stuckey.

I agree with Mo…. I mean, I understand it is just preseason…. But what scares me the most is Rasheed jacking threes, Chauncey turning the ball over and Amir getting 5 fouls before the 4th quarter…. Again, its just preseason but it is still a bit scary… I wont turn on the Panic button, it is just an observation of what we may be observing all year.

i’ve always argued that if i had rip hamilton on my team I could have almost as good an assist/turnover ratio as chauncey. I wonder how much a faster tempo and the new personnel will throw chauncey off this season.

Amir historically is a slow starter. I think I recall The Diesel who did the play by play last night mentioning that MC was applauding Amir when MC took him out after his 5th foul.

It seems to me that Amir is also still playing with a Flipper hangover.

Flip had an Amir rule when Amir was in the rotation for about 2 months last year. 2 fouls and go to the bench no exceptions. Flip would usually reinsert him in second half.

It was nice to see MC leave Amir in with 2 fouls.

This is a big step up for the young guy. Still only 21 and he is now going against starters, not reserves or garbage time guys.

It will take him a bit but he will catch on as long as MC gives him the time. My guess is that it will take until the all star game or so before Amir starts to really get comfortable starting and going on a nightly basis against some of the top PF’s in the league.

Maybe you can talk to Amir and have him change what he says from “I am just the garbage man” to “I am the chief sanitation engineer” LOL

Cheikh Samb didn’t play, very dissapointing. I’m eager to see how far he’s progressed.

Maxiell put up some serious numbers, should be starting instead of Amir. 13 pts with only 2 fouls in 27 minutes, the most of any piston. On 5-7 shooting. Give the guy more touches and start him for crying out loud!

Paul, The reason Joe D doesn’t want Maxiell to start is his stamina, he runs out of energy fast, and is best coming off the bench just like Antonio Mcdyess a couple years ago, I actually found Antonio Mcdyess do better off the bench
