What if the Pistons…….

by | Jul 31, 2008 | 22 comments

I know most of you are scratching your heads at the signing of Kwame Brown. Pistons fans have been waiting for a blockbuster deal that just hasn’t happened….yet that is. This waiting game, draft day and signing of the other Kwame got me playing the “what if” game.

Now I go the positive route in the “what if” game and look back at our 2004 championship. So what if Dumars wouldn’t have drafted Darko? Would we have picked up Sheed and a Championship? Nobody really knows, but i makes you look on the brighter side of things for a moment.

Little did I know that after playing my own game of “what if”, I had footage

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
of a piece Eli Zaret did for the Pistons on all the “what ifs” from the past that ran earlier this year. There are a ton of blasts from the past that you may have forgotten about. It all put things into perspective for me in realizing how many things go wrong and go right in building a team like The Pistons have been over the years.

Remembering the past always helps when dealing with the future. Doesn’t it?

THERE IS NO TYPE OF HISTORY LESSON FOR THIS BULLSH*T JOE WHY YOU JUST WASTE MONEY ON A BUM I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS GUY WILL NOT DO A DAMN THING HERE AS A PISTON THIS MOVE SET US BACK IN RACE FOR THE EAST TITLE CONTENDER NO. NO TEAM THAT HAS KWAME BROWN ON IT SHOULD WIN A TITLE EVER

Maybe I’m in the minority but if Kwame grabs a few boards that is enough to warrant the money and the contract. I don’t expect much more from him.

He helps Dyess and Sheed rebounding..I’m happy.

If a team with Darko can win a title then a team with Kwame can win a title.

    It’s only a 2 year deal for a total of 8 million…that is nothing in the NBA. Here are the scenarios that could happen with Kwame;

    1) He plays good defense (which he’s actually good at) rebounds, and provides an interior presence in 15 mpg. If he plays much better he likely opts out of his contract after the 1st year, so it’s only a 1 year committment. Maybe he plays well and wants to stay here, then we have him at a bargain price.

    2) He doesn’t play well and he becomes a trade chip. Maybe not this year, but his deal expires next year and every team in the league is looking for cap space for the loaded free agent class of 2010

    3) He doesn’t play too well, so we just use him in the Dale Davis/Theo Ratliff role to defend the biggest centers in the league. We let his contract run off the books in 2010 when Rip’s and Dyess’s will as well. That’s close to 25 million there.

Overall the guy is a mediocre basketball player but that’s what the 4th or 5th big man on a team are. If he actually plays better then that (unlikely, but doesn’t Detroit probably give him the best opportunity of any team to make that happen?) then it’s a bonus.

    Steve,
My god man are you immature or what. Nothing of what you say you can justify. Just because you dont make the all-star team doesnt mean your not an all-star to a lot of people. I think he’s an all-star defender. Known for two of the greatest blocks ever…EVER! Calling him Gayshaun is just immature as well. What team do you play for? Oh yeah your just a bitter person talking smack about my team. Are you going to jump on the bandwagon when we win another championship with him? Probably along with many other people. If you wanna disrespect a Detroit player go to a different team site and post it there because you have no point in what you say. Before you reply I can already tell what your going to say…either I’m gay for liking Tayshaun, or I’m stupid. Either way your age shows.

Steve, since when can every player be an all-star? No one is claiming Tay is on the level of Lebron or D-Wade.

How are you even a fan of the Pistons when you hate the owner, the GM, and all the players? If everyone in the organization is so terrible then why do you come to this site and make posts?

It’s sad really…Nat puts this great site together, maintains and updates it and the only negative aspect about it is your profanity laced posts about the team this site promotes.

geez, so many anger in this site…obviously nobody is happy with kwame, but im wondering, who else could pistons gotten for $4million a year????? i for one don’t understand this move, all we could do is wait….based on joe’s move for the past year, each move results to another move, so we’ll see….nat i got a good one for you, “what if need4sheed doesn’t exist?”

guys, what’d u think of artest’s comment about yao and the brawl

“If you go back to the brawl, that’s a culture issue right there”

culture issue, damn, at first im all for artest moving to pistons and trade prince, but now, rockets is having a locker issue already and artest is not even there yet. im glad we didn’t pursue him.

Nat- this is a great post- very appropriate for right now. I also don’t expect much more out of Kwame than a few boards and a Dale Davis style role. ANything else is bonus.
Ronnie and James- you’re both right about Steve.
Steve- Ronnie and James are both right about you. Also- who cares how many points Tayshaun didn’t score in that game. He’s a roleplayer on that team. He job is to play defence and team basketball. Beleive it or not, the olympic basketball committee of the USA knows a little bit more about basketball than you do, and they know that he is olympic caliber. Maybe you should be proud of having him on this team rather than bashing him.
Detroittommy- Putting everything you type in capital letters doesn’t make it any more true.

Detroit Tommy…here’s why we couldn’t have had Artest for cheap.

Artest makes 8.45 million this year, so in order to get salaries to match up we’d have to send over one of our core guys or McDyess (as the base of the deal) in order to get it to work financially.

Sacramento wanted cap space, draft picks and young guys with upside, which they’ll get b/c B. Jackson’s 6 million dollar contract comes off the books this year plus they got a talented guy in Donte Greene and a future 1st round pick.

We didn’t have the players (salary wise) to match up with Artest and give them an expiring contract. None of our core guys, who would be needed to match up salaries, are in the last year of their contract besides Rasheed. Sacramento wouldn’t want Rasheed (plus they wouldn’t get any draft picks or young guys) and trading Rasheed for Artest makes no sense from our perspective either.

Amen, James, nice of you to shine logic on that issue rather than crying about Dumars not getting it done.

Wow, Steve, not only did you not manage to make a complete sentence, but you in no way defended your position at all. Of course, when your position is dissing a defensive olympic basketball roleplayer for not scoring in a blowout game in which he only played 6 minutes, I don’t suppose there’s much defending you can really do.

Naw im sayin richie the way u talk bout these players makes me seem like u dont like the ladys that much, its jus kinda weird ur infatuation with these guys..

eric.. i need a brains? u should do the same so u can actually type a diss to me home boy.

Steve, if you’re going to criticize Eric’s typing than maybe you should learn to type “you need a female, dog” rather than “u need a female dog”; there’s a difference.
Like I said, immature- just like Ronnie told you, “Before you reply I can already tell what your going to say…either I’m gay for liking Tayshaun, or I’m stupid. Either way your age shows.” Way to prove him wrong.
Even if the fact that I know why Tayshaun is an Olympian DOES make me gay, how does the fact that you haven’t stop begging for Melo, T-mac, Ron ron and Josh Smith make you any less gay? Here’s the answer- niether of those things determines someone’s sexual orientation, because it has no bearing on a basketball oppinion, homophobe.
Sorry for typing so much, I’ll let you get back to all of your ladies now.

Ric…to answer your question What if there was no Need4Sheed?

I would have whole lot of extra free time on my hands but in all honesty I would still be the crazy fan I always have been.

Best thing about the site is the friendships I have made with fellow fans like myself. Pistons fans stick together.
