Mike Woodson?

Thanks to Jeff Knight in Atlanta for sending this our way. Looks like Detroit may be interested in Mike Woodson.

From Sekou K Smith at AJC.com
“According to my spy the Detroit Pistons have asked for permission to speak with Hawks coach Mike Woodson (that’s his title for at least the next 26 days or so unless something breaks before the end of the month) about their vacant coaching position.

Solid reports out of Detroit have Pistons assistant Michael Curry lined up for the job. But the Pistons have apparently covered their bases if that doesn’t work out by contacting the representative of Woodson, who was the lead assistant on Larry Brown’s staff when the Pistons won the NBA title in 2004.

It’s not a surprising development for me, mostly because I know what high regard the folks in Detroit have for Woodson and the job he did not only there but also what he’s done with the Hawks. I’ve had more than one spy confirm for me that had Woodson not bolted for the Hawks job after that title season that he (and not Flip Saunders) would have been the choice to replace Larry Brown.

Woodson’s hard-charging style was a perfect fit for that veteran Pistons squad. And if you’ve seen the way the Pistons players greet him during games (the parade of hugs and man-love borders on creepy sometimes) it should be clear to anyone watching that there is a huge amount of respect for Woodson from those players.”

    well only time will tell

im sitting back, gonan enjoy these finals (go kobe!) and see what is in store for the pistons… i cant do anything for the pistons other than observe… we’ll see who the coach is, and which core member isnt back here next year

all i know is i wanna see a lot of stuckey and amir next year, i love their youth and passion… win or lose it is exciting to watch them play… same with maxiell, and hey i dont hate the starters… i actually dont wanna see any of them go, but i understand is has got to a point where we believe that shaking it up is what we need to do get them over the hump

nat, i think woodson would be a good pick up, obviously, we need someone who could demand respect from the players and someone who can demand responsibility for everybody….along with his defensive mentality, which i assume since larry brown was his mentor….and with his resume from the hawks, it indicates that he has a lot of trust with the young guys. both pistons vets and youngs will be excited to play for this guy.

I totally forgot about him and thanks to this blog I remember what he did for not only the pistons but what he did with the hawks.

If we get him I can see the PISTONS going to another NBA FINALS and even taking a RING home! and some HEAVY WEIGHT BELTS if RASHEED remains in PISTON JERSEY!

It would be pathetic if all the blame was place on RASHEED and JOE-D decides to get rid of him for some average joe or some player who is good at post up but does not have an outside game like rasheed.

I doubt JOE-D would get rid of Rasheed due to some issues that took place this season. Like JOE said all the players were to blame and I hope we see him in a pistons jersey and MIKE WOODSON coaching away!

That’s an interesting development. The Pistons obviously have respect for him, and his work with the 04 team, as well as the rebuilding of the Hawks speaks volumes.

Man, am I going through Detroit Basketball withdrawals. :) But I’m sticking with my second choice after the Pistons: GO KOBE! At least I got one team right. lol
