If the Pistons and Boston Celtics hook up in the Eastern Conference Finals, Knicks coach Isiah Thomas will be rooting hard for his former team.
“I always cheer for the Pistons and I always want them to beat the Celtics,” Thomas said. “Larry Bird will always be a Celtic, even when he’s working for the Indiana Pacers, and Kevin McHale will always be a Celtic, even when he works for Minnesota. I’ll always be a Piston that works for the New York Knicks.”
Chauncey Billups, who was honored Tuesday along with Thomas as members of the Pistons’ All-Time Team, said Thomas’ feelings are heartfelt.
“He’s adamant about that,” Billups said. “It’s like some old feelings came back. It’s good to see guys like that who bleed red, white and blue no matter where they’re at. I’m sure I’ll be the same way.”
