Pistons cruise to their ninth straight win

by | Jan 1, 2008 | 32 comments

The Pistons ended year off right by handing The Milwaukee Bucks a 45 point blowout in their biggest margin of victory on the season. This was just a good old fashioned beat down and a joy to be able to witness. With the Pistons playing the way they have been this season, nine in a row hasn’t ever looked this good. The final score in this one was 114-69.

Key Points:

  • The efficiency in the box score will give you the recap of the game itself. Five Pistons in double figures, 33 assists not to mention a 58.4% shooting percentage for Detroit. Good times…..
  • Sometimes being at the game isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, you seem to miss the little things. Like the priceless look on Rasheed’s face after Primoz Brezec dove for a loose ball with seconds left on the clock and a 43 point lead.
  • The starters continue to put games away by the end of the third opening the door for the bench to get big minutes along with rest for themselves.
  • Rip Hamilton continues his fiery play, he was perfect from the field until about 7 minutes into the third quarter. Rip led the team with 22 points on 9-10 shooting with 2 assists and 2 rebounds. On point in Detroit, Yes SIRRRR!

  • Rodney Stuckey is making strides and using all the minutes he’s getting to better his game. Stuckey had 6 points, 7 assists a steal and 3 boards. He’s getting better when taking it to the hoop and finishing in a crowd. He’s been playing his pants of…..literally!
  • NBA.Com highlights of the game. Though there were too many to show.
  • Sheed takes good care of his Pistons family.
  • 15 points for Tayshaun Prince who seems to be taking a back seat as of late, but is still contributing immensely.
  • Rebound war lost 38-36.
  • JMax 3-for-4 shooting for 6 points with a blocked shot and 3 rebounds. Maxiell is getting some rest along with the starters because of the Pistons’ huge leads.
  • Near perfect game for Mr. Big shot who gave us all a treat by giving us (along with his team) his first and probably only dunk of the season. Chauncey finished with a double-double with 13 points, 12 assists a steal and 0 turnovers.

  • “That dunk was so old school. He was telling all the young guys he can dunk. They should’ve given him a technical for hanging on the rim that long. He told me, I’ve got to let all the cameras get all their snap shots in and let them know I can still get up there.” Richard Hamilton on Chauncey’s dunk.
  • Defense continues to win games.
  • Chauncey loves to watch the bench play: “I call them the zoo crew,” said Pistons guard Chauncey Billups.”They’re like some caged animals out there. It’s so much fun to watch those guys.”
  • Chauncey started the third quarter with a long 3-pointer giving The Pistons a 22-point lead.
  • Amirzing putback jam on a disrupted Brezec all oop had the whole bench along with the crowd on their feet.
  • Afflalo continues to play well, in fact he could be our next Lindsey Hunter (defensive specialist). Arron finished with 6 points, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot in 20 minutes.
  • Unsung hero, Antonio McDyess, who continues to play well putting up double-doubles with ease and has been doing a heck of a job on defense all season. Dyess had a ridiculously sweet move down low to shake Bogut and Yi for a reverse layup. Diggity finished with 10 points, 10 boards and 2 assists.

  • Brezec is scrappy, hard working and seems to be right where the action is whenever he’s on the court.
  • Jarvis continues to have a hot hand and was knocking down shots with ease. Hayes finished with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting in 17 minutes on the floor.
  • What a luxury to have Herrmann as a 12th (15th?) man. He sure can knock down a shot and throw down a dunk. He finished with 8 points in just 6 minutes.
  • Just wore my Pistons kicks for the first time and if you didn’t get a chance to pick them up I suggest you do. For $29 and $18 for a pair of adidas that represent the red, white and blue you can’t go wrong. Plus they are comfortable.
  • The Pistons will go for their 10th in a row against the Wizards on Wednesday evening, marking the first time Jarvis Hayes returns to Washington since signing with The Pistons.
  • VOTE ALREADY!

Surprising poll results on Pistons.com i don’t know how long its been up but the question is

Which Pistons color jerseys are your favorite?
    The results are:
    43% Alternate Reds
    22% Retro
    19% Home Whites
    16% Road Blues

I personally like the Home whites the best I didnt expect the Alternates to be the favorite tho what do you all think?

    Piston Check-List
    —————–
    Varsity Championship Jacket – $234.00

    Adidas TS Lightspeed C.B. – $99.99

    Jason Maxiell Jersey – $29.00

Sheed’s facial expression after the Brezec Dive – PRICELESS!

    XD XD XD

I probably would of gave Primo the same look, it was only about 35 seconds left in the game and he’s diving for the ball. I bet I could read Rasheed’s mind right about then, “Why is he going for it? Let it go…” But you can’t doubt his ‘All out, balls out’ mentality.

    GO PRIMO!

In reply to Dominic; I voted for the Red Alts. I like them the best. My list would look like this:

    Red Alt.
    Home White.
    Blue Road
’56 Home (Eh, I wish they bring back the lighting bolt)

It is good to be a Pistons fan, and it’s especially good with them playing they way they are right now. Tomorrow’s game vs. the WIzzards should be interesting, since the Wizzards have seemed to present problems for us the last couple years.

Regarding the jersey situation, PistonsNation.com had an interesting article about the “new retros”:

ayjay: not really into making a whole video clip of Herrmann and Brezec playing, your going to have to check out the games for that. That’s just too much work for me to handle.

Gratz 30: I will think of something in regards to the Zoo Crew, I actually have a T-Shirt in mind already.

Richie: Glad you liked the lava ball, I had to do something special after the way he’s been playing. And on the question…..your all talk ;).

Hah, well maybe when Joe D gets smart enough to draft a 5′ 6″ white guy like me I’ll be able to earn one for you! So ummm an eternity seems just about right!

    PS
None of us can be considered the best, Nat, as that position is dominantly held by you!

Richie, what kind of a proposal would be enough without a ring? Since Natalie loves the Pistons so much, you should get one that looks like the Pistons championship ring! haha I’m just playing. Things seem to be very jolly these days in Pistons land.

I’m surprised no one has said anything about Maxiell’s headshake after Primo dived after the ball.

Does anyone know how’s Rip’s elbow? Or is he starting to wear that sleeve just for luck because he’s been playing so well? And I can’t believe he actually suggested that the refs should give Chauncey a technical. Too cute.

About the jerseys, I thought most people agree that the Pistons should burn those red jerseys because they’re such…bad luck! But hey, they beat Houston in those red jerseys. And I do like the white jerseys best.

Washington is in for a stormy ride tonight when our Pistons step on the court! Go PISTONS!

Hah, it’s funny you should say that Claire, because that’s exactly the ring I suggested (three posts above yours)!

Am I the only one who likes the Pistons blue jerseys?!

^^ yea, I clicked on the link that you posted and I was like: “well, I shouldve checked that before I posted.”

So tonight, Rip’s gonna become the 10th leading scorer in Pistons’ franchise history. How’s that for the start of a new year?

May I just say that his name is Primoz Brezec, not Primo 🙂 And the “z” is pronounced as the beginning of “giraffe”. Both “e”‘s in Brezec are short like in “cat”. And the “c” is pronounced as “tz”. Just so you know if he becomes a regular 😉

    Claire,

I said this earlier in an email, just not in the comments here, so I’ll share…

Good god that look on Sheed’s face was hilarious, followed by Maxey’s slight head shake that seemed to say, “Damn boy, even I lay off the baby eatin in the last two minutes of a blowout.”

no mention of the 45 point blowout anywhere on NBA.com.

    weird.

I don’t understand why ‘Sheed looked at Primoz that way. I thinks it’s admirable that he dove for that ball when the game was pretty much over. Are you all sure that he was looking at Primoz? Or could it have been at an official or someone else? Hmm…

Anyway, I like the blue jerseys! Of course, that could be cuz my favorite color is blue. I strongly dislike the red ones. I can’t say hate ’cause they say “Pistons” on them so it’s impossible to actually HATE them. lol Home whites are my fav, then blue, then the retros and in a distant 4th, the reds. They look too much like the Clippers’ jerseys.

Can’t wait for the game tonight! It feels like forever since I’ve seen them play ’cause I didn’t get to watch the amazing game against the Bucks.

Here’s to a great start to the new year! CHEERS!

Well I actually like all of our jerseys but the best ones are the road bad boys era jerseys I think they shouldve thrown em back to that time but we can have any Piston jersey just ANYTHING BUT THE TEALs!!!!!

Sheed probably gave that look because the way he went flying, he could have injured himself (or someone else) and although it does show his intensity, it really wouldn’t have been worth it if someone had gotten hurt. That’s my take on the situation anyway. I could be wrong. It looked like there were some little kids right in his path & it was a little scarey.

Here’s to another win tonight… CHEERS!!

    GO PISTONS!!!!

ps Stuckey has some nice buns :]

^^Plus, the ball was already out of bounds when he dove for it too, so that might have had something to do with the look also.

my fave colour is blue too actually, but for some reason, i feel something looks weird about the blue jerseys, they seem dull… maybe it’s the shade of blue they use, or the red letters on a blue jersey may be what makes it look weird, i dunno… and yea reds arent my fave either, but i have to say i like them more than the blues
