Rolling strong in New Jersey

by | Dec 27, 2007 | 28 comments

Six in a row and 13 of their last 15 games. On this current streak The Pistons are rolling through their opponents with ease, while utilizing the bench, and that’s something they haven’t done in last few seasons.

Detroit dropped The Nets 101-83 last night in New Jersey led by Rip Hamilton’s 22 points.

Key Points:

  • Remember when the Pistons would dig themselves a huge hole in third quarters? Now they come out STRONG in the third, almost making it impossible for their opponents to keep up. And I love it.
  • Even though Tayshaun didn’t put up big numbers, he’s been playing well every night. When he’s open on a fast break it’s a wonderful thing. Tay put up 6 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and a takeaway.
  • Five Pistons and five Nets in double figures.
  • You have to wonder what the Pistons will get for Flip Murray.
  • Jason Kidd 0-for-8 from the floor.
  • Rip was smoking hot…22 points on 10-for-16 shooting, while running Vince Carter all around the court.

  • “We don’t want it to be close for the refs to try to call some crazy stuff in that fourth quarter. So we’ve got to go out in that third quarter, no matter if it’s the first part of the third or the middle of that. We’ve just got to try to open up at least a 10-point lead in that third quarter.”Via The Detroit Free Press
  • Have you noticed how excited Brezec is? He’s been one of the teams biggest cheerleaders. I actually didn’t think he would contribute much, but he’s surprised me with his attitude and assertiveness whenever he’s on court.
  • New play: Sheed for a buzzer beating 3.
  • Maxiell had 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting with 3 boards and an assist. He’s averaging 9 points a game this season and his free throw percentage is up to 55.
  • I am ashamed at myself for not having an Antonio McDyess jersey (I need to represent). How can you not love Diggity? He put up 16 points on 6-for-9 shooting with 9 boards…one short of his 5th straight double-double. The only reason he didn’t get his DD was because the Pistons were dominating, as usual, and he didn’t have to play the end of the game.
  • Smooth….double-double, 17 points and 10 assists. His baseline move for a reverse layup has got to be the play of the game.

  • Detroit hit 14-of-18 shots in the third quarter.
  • I would like to personally thank whoever (think it was Joe D?) it was that put the D back in Detroit’s game.
  • Jarvis Hayes 5 points on 2-for-7 shooting. They said he was a streak shooter…they weren’t lying.
  • Was Sheff in the house to see NJ or the Stones?
  • Gotta love THIS KID, who obviously knows what Sheed Says.
  • Rodney Stuckey, isn’t timid on court. He put up 7 points on 3-for-7 shooting with 3 assists and 2 takeaways in 11 minutes. He sure isn’t afraid to drive the lane in traffic either.
  • 24-of-37 from the field in the second half.
  • Guess who’s at the top of the power rankings.
  • The Pistons shot 78% in the third quarter and 54% for the night.
  • How fun is it to watch the Pistons play right now?
  • SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED! 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting and this…..

looks like that kid is a Need4Sheed fan too. I swear I was watching basketball the other day and the commentator said “Ball doesn’t lie” and I was like: “man, Sheed better copy-right that quote soon”

I consider last night’s win an early Birthday present from the Pistons to me. Now I wouldn’t mind if they keep giving me presents like that all season long.

Keep the winning spirit alive, guys! On a side note, 50 cent should attend one of the Pistons games and meet his long lost twin: Rodney Stuckey!

I have a Dyess jersey… then again, Dyess has been my fave ever since he got to Detroit and I watched for a long time for it to become available. I was starting to think I was going to have to have one custom made b/c it took so long. Yes, Natalie… you should have one. Dyess is awesome! The team is doing awesome!! Being a Piston fan right now is awesome… it’s like Christmas every day!!!

I spent Christmas with a guy from Indianapolis (friend of my sisters) and he started to try to talk sh*t about the Pacers. Another good thing about being a Piston fan right now — the team does most of the talking for you. It was a short discussion.

Hey Natalie, hope things are better with your family an you had a happy holiday.

Love the way our boys are playing right now, especially on the d. I laughed out loud when I saw the kid with the Sheed says sign, I swear this site is HUGE.

One thing though, you never answered my marriage proposal.

It was fun to watch in the second half (first wasn’t that great).

I wait every game for a Rasheed Wallace jam, sometimes it comes sometimes it doesn’t. But throw in Antonio McDyess’s hustle save and this is one of the better dunks. Love it when they team up on a play.

Was I the only one hoping the nets would get close in the forth so antonio could come in and get that one rebound for a double double? I don’t usually worry about stats but I still love seeing double doubles from them.

Sorry Nat, I actually think Tayshaun is pretty bad on the fast break he can’t really pass and he can’t finish when fouled.

How many games of bad shooting constitutes a slump for JARvis Hayes? Not saying he’s a bad shooter but we do have another guy we need to check out (FYL was never big on JArvis Hayes coming here as primary backup

Rodney Stuckey definately has a Dwane Wade arrogance about him. Which is probably why he’s his favorite player. Like his game but I hope he doesn’t turn out to be another dwade (i’d be satisfied if he’s another Baron Davis though (haha)

    Love Arron AFflalo’s game.

Def enjoy the site, id be a member but i am way too lazy.. Great game last night! They have proved themselves once again as the best team in the nba and ranked #1 on sportscenter this morning as the team most likely to win the whole ship this yr..i cant wait till playoffs..stucky is gonna be sick! and i think we are 1 tweak away from winning it all this yr. I think 1 more trade VIA Flip Murray and we got this! maybe bring back Chris Webber for veteran leadership and a solid big man off the bench..

oh and one more thing.. Who the Fxck is Ben Wallace? cuz all i see is Jason Maxiell hahaha im glad bens gone! Hes washed up and woulda dragged this team down..great move Joe D keepin enought loot for Mr.Billups..

one last shout out to McDiggity woop woop!!

    Peace out!

^^^^Thanks Kels, I missed most of the first half.

    When was Maxie’s Dunk?

    Boyde, your all talk.

np4500 according to my records and NBA.com it’s 6 in a row, but i wish it was 7. I have a good feeling it will be come tomorrow.

I still love tay on the break… especially when he’s getting a hustle play or an ally oop from Rip, but I can see where your coming from.

    one last thing…SHEEEEED
I have always had a special place in my heart for Dyess…new jersey for me for sure.

I love short conversations with Pacer fans. Even better, I like no conversations with Pacer fans.

First game of the year for me last night. Had great seats. Natalie hit it on the head about Primoz, he was up cheering EVERY point scored. Even threw me his headband after the game.

Ron Harper sighting during the game. He had the team’s attention throughout one whole timeout. Sheed, Rip, Billups were all looking up at him during the game, joking with him. Pretty funny stuff.

    great game…
but in response to steve from madison heights. don’t rip on ben. he always did his best for us. what did you want him to do? take a much smaller salary just to satiate your desire of seeing him play? He did his best for us while he was here, and didn’t screw us over in the end. what else do you want from him? i know he’s gotten worse and is on a rival team, but he sill has a special place in my heart like all the current pistons.

Ben stranded his team! Idk if u remember after the Pistons lost to the heat in the playoffs in 06, when ben got off the plane when he returned Detroit he had his pistons jersey on over his dress clothes, almost assuring he would stay..he stabbed the hearts of many loyal fans in my book hes a sellout! idc what anyone says..and if he could do it all over again i guarensheed he would have stayed.. but like i said maxiell is here we dont need ben and im glad he left. Sure i liked him when he was here, who didnt? But he got exposed and he is a sellout. Like i said im glad he sold out! We got Billups.. and we r one tweak away from another banner in the palace.

Hi fans it’s me Jacqueline~~~ this has been so much fun to watch! I mean the guys are showing up and showing out every night, I love it, the rookies are showing so much heart! It’s so good to watch the starters sit out just about the entire fourth quarter, sit around and crack jokes among each other, it’s fun to watch them laugh and play, I hope they keep it up, if they do by the time the post season rolls around the Pistons will be unstoppable!!!

not sure, i only got the sports center version of maxie’s dunk. he came from the close side down the baseline and dunked one-on-one over a net. the highlight was quick, but i’m thinking it was toward the end of the game.

Hey Cleveland vs. Boston tonite on TNT WHo do you want to lose more?
I personally want Boston to lose this one because everyone is still making a big deal about Boston even after that loss to the Pistons so maybe thisll be a good slap in the face for them. Of course i wouldnt mind a good Cav beatdown either jus sayin 🙂

hey dominic I would want the cavs to win if they were playing only because it would give boston 4 loses and only 3 ahead of detroit however since the cavs are playing dallas tonight I want dallas to win and as much as I would love to see Seattle beat boston tonight I don’t think it will happen.

As much as I dislike the “Media Darlings” that are the Celtics, it doesn’t matter who Cleveland is playing, I wish the Cavs the worst of luck. ‘Sides, it doesn’t matter what people say about Boston now, the only thing that matters is what happens in the Playoffs.

P.S. Anybody know what size Swingman jersey I should buy for someone who is 6’1″, about 160 lb. and wears size Medium shirts?

I know it’s weird, but my favorite part of the game was the end of the first half when the Pistons were actually down by six. It made it so much more interesting waiting for them to make their move late in the second quarter.

Can both the Cavericks and the Mavaliers lose? That’d be great. I just hope for a LeBron/Varejoke/Gooden injury.

Ive been wanting to say something about the third quarter holes for a while and I was too reminded about them in last nights game.
