Pistons dominate Charlotte

by | Dec 9, 2007 | 28 comments

The Pistons are back on track courtesy of The Charlotte Bobcats. Detroit’s 104-85 blowout against The Bobcats started off with a strong game from Antonio McDyess who’s shot was falling early and often.

Key Points:

  • Lots of rest for the starters, who again got to sit most all of the fourth quarter.
  • The Pistons had this one from the start.
  • Clearly a game packed full of Piston highlights.
  • Richard Hamilton was assessed another technical foul. Do we need a Rip Hamilton tech watch this season instead of Sheed?
  • The closest Charlotte got was in the third quarter when they had the score at 57-52, but a Pistons run quickly put the game out of reach.
  • Good to see Mr. McDyess knocking them down like it was nothing. Antonio scored 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting with 9 boards, 2 blocked shots and a steal. When Dyess’s shot is on, it doesn’t even touch the net.

  • Detroit held the explosive Gerald Wallace to just 3 points.
  • The Pistons announced Sunday that they will assign rookie Chiekh Samb to Fort Wayne of the D-League in time for their game on Thursday.
  • Flip Murray did a nice job dishing the ball out, especially the one that went to Maxie for a jam.
  • Great move by Amir Johnson who shook a Bobcat (Herrmann) for a nice put in.
  • Highlights of the game.
  • Rebound war won 47-29.
  • Everyone played.
  • 16 turnovers for Detroit on the night. With a figure like that they usually don’t win the game.
  • Detroit’s +/- for the night compared to Charlotte’s was ridiculous, just check the box.
  • Chauncey looked great, his no look pass to Maxiell was so pretty. Mr. Big shot led the team with 20 points and 6 assists in 31 minutes.

  • Afflalo continues to be solid even when he’s not scoring. His only make came from an acrobatic and-1. He finished the game with 5 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound and a steal.
  • Sheed was playing pretty physical setting screens and causing trouble down low. He finished with just 7 points and 7 boards, but he was effective when he was out there.
  • The Bobcats Matt Carroll, who usually plays well against Detroit, had just 5 points all in garbage minutes.
  • Jason Maxiell is always good for some thunder dunks, but his 20 foot buzzer beater at the end of the first quarter was just as exciting. Maxiell finished with 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting, 7 boards and 2 blocked shots. Sixth Man!

  • Rip was solid again, he put up 18 points on 5-for-8 shooting
  • I’m still waiting for Jarvis to set himself before putting up shots. He finished with 9 points on 2-for-8 shooting.
  • See what happens when an out of town Non-Pistons Basketball Blogger comes to Detroit to watch a game. It sure is an experience isn’t it.
  • Busy schedule ahead as the Pistons go on the road this week, so it’s nice when the starters get rest.
  • UPDATE: A bunch of Team Need4Sheed members informed me that Tayshaun has been playing with 2 sprained fingers on his shooting had (I had no idea), good for Tayshaun, he knows his team needs him and he’s toughing it out. Someone should be ashamed of themselves.
  • Antonio Miggggity Miggggity Miggggity MCDYESS… Gotta love him!

Can you post the Jarvis Hayes’ shopping spree video, Natalie? And I clicked on the link about that blogger who visited the Palace, and I found a very interesting piece of writing. Here’s the link:

the title of this article was enough to set me on a laugh-fest. I’m sure you all will enjoy it.

Yes Claire I read that a couple of days ago.. good to see that people are actually speaking the truth about LeBaby.

Jarvis shopping video will be up soon, just give me a chance.

As for the highlights… I’m not going to say it will be a staple but you will see them from time to time.
+/- is a figure that says when someone one the floor the team is either + or – when they are out there and then a number, so you can see from tonights box the Pistons did well

    +/- comes from hockey.
Say Chauncey was on the floor for 60 Detroit points, and 40 Charlotte points, than he would be +20 for the game.

On a side note, I couldn’t believe how many missed shots came from the side acts. The halftime show guy missed a few shots, and the Flight Crew only made like two dunks. Charlotte missed a bunch too, lol.

ok I was at this game and I agree tays shot is off but I also read somewhere he is playing with a injury. He was playing D pretty good, just last game he had 9 boards. tonight he had 5 boards adn 5 assts, he played some good D tonight from what I seen. I do not think that we need to worry if you look back on last yr he was about the same, he just goes through these slumps. Well anyway nothing againts this site I just feel you do not have much love for Tay even when he does well he gets no love form thsi site just one little bullet and then the rest on other players it seems that unless he blows out a game people give up but let me ask this do you think with out tay the team would play as well?

well beside all that the game was great.

I have to say that the crowed didn’t seem to into the game until rip got his tech its almost like we get going just as much as the players do. WEll this was a great to be at and I will take getting pulled into customs everytime I seem to go to a game anytime, I just do not understand why everytime i take the kid I babysit they pull me and seach my car I always claim waht I buy but well that is a dif probably and nothing to do with the game.

tayshaun led the pistons in points against the hawks with 23 points He also lead with 20 points against the bucks, I will ssay againt the nets and bulls he did not play too well but the hornets he played some good D with 9 boards. I am not saying you have to be all about tay cause this site is great but tay does not get very much love from this site.

Are Detroit fans the only people who don’t think their announcer/commentator is the most annoying person on planet earth?

^^^ I don’t think we are the only ones considering almost every arena’s PA announcer tried to copy his style.

As for Tay, maybe I have been a bit hard on him for the simple fact that I would like to see him be a bit more consistent. Noting done on purpose in fact Tay is on of my favorite players.

hey, Nat, I just want to point out that Rip was 5-8 last night, not 5-18. I dont mean to correct you or anything, but you know, 5-18 makes Rip look bad 🙂

Tay has 2 sprained fingers on his shooting hand…it happened a while ago, but tay is doing the little things that is helping this team and i don’t mind that (like rebounding) and same thing 4 Nazr, if Nazr just cleans up the board then i’m cool wit that, i really don’t mind if he scores or not just matters if he is cleaning up the boards. THE MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG this is just too great…..no one i mean no one is averaging 32+ minutes a game and that is wonderful…..i’m just looking @ the Bulls/Celtics game i just see how much minutes those players are playing…..I got to give it Flip, u have been doing welll managing the bench and and the starters, and all that together we are still winning……I LOVE THIS TEAM AND I CAN”T WAIT TIL STUCKEY PLAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LET’S GO PISTONS AND LET’S GET THAT SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2007-2008 IT’S OUT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if TAY is playing with 2 sprained fingers on his SHOOTING hand, I’m sure LBJ could play with 1 sprained finger on his NON-shooting hand….

Didn’t know Tay was playing with sprained fingers, just updated the post.

FYI: The Carlton is ready, it will be out this afternoon or the morning. I had that sucker ready last night. I saw it in person and was cracking up, I was hoping that they showed it on TV.

of course Tay can play with a sprained finger here and there, because he’s a man and he doesnt need a Maxi Pad.

I think i’m gonna refer to the great LBJ as the Great Maxi Pad of Cleveland from now on.

I’m glad our guys came back and put a whipping on somebody. I just want to see what they can do against San Antonio, PHX, MIA(sucks but you still can’t count them out), and most importantly Boston. I want to put a whipping on those teams. As for the person who commented about aren’t we tired of our announcer………….HECK NO!!! Why do you have to be such a hater?most of these PA announcers are stealing Masons stuff, and you probably wished your own PA came up with it first. You know you love DEETTRROIITT BASSSKETBALL!!! lol stop being a hater and enjoy life, homie. You came to a Pistons site just to hate. You can’t have a life.

LOVE THE SITE NATALIE!!! I come on here everyday. It’s part of my daily rountine.

I dont know if anyone remembers, but during the Piston Broadcast they told us why Maxi cut his hair off… It was because he was supporting one of his family members who has cancer and is on therapy… Its his way of showing support. I was very touched when I heard this, shows that Maxi has a good heart and a truley genuine guy! Gotta love our Pistons…

love eveything about max . his free throws are getting better , and i like that he has a couple go-to moves in the post …a little drop-step, the pull up 12-15 footer . nice . he’s equaling mcdyess’ production of the bench, and mcdyess probably never saw so many open looks in his life . it’s almost like teams forget he can shoot so well spotting up . don’t look now – but rip’s shooting percentages are going up . he’s near 80 percent from the line , about 45 from the field , and about 40 from three . it seemed to me he was trying to hard to put the ball on the floor and create his own shot , but now he’s curling and cutting again . so – it seems he’s getting out of that funk he was in . watch out !
