Chauncey Agrees to stay in Detroit?

by | Jul 3, 2007 | 46 comments

I just heard that Chauncey and the Pistons have agreed on a deal. I have no link or details yet but I heard the news on the Stoney and Wojo show on WDFN. I believe the contract will be around 12 to 13 million a year for 4 or 5 years. More details when I can find them.

UPDATE

Free-agent guard Chauncey Billups agreed Tuesday in principle to a five-year, $60-million deal to remain with the Pistons.
Billups, who will be 31 next season, became a free agent Sunday. He will be the highest-paid Piston next season. There apparently were no other serious bidders for Billups.” Via The Detroit News

Justin Rogers at Mlive says it’s not a done deal just yet

“Chauncey Billups has agreed to a 5-year, $60-million contract according to Chris McCosky, reporting on WDFN-AM, but MLive.com’s A. Sherrod Blakely just got off the phone with Billups’ agent, Andy Miller, and Miller says the deal is still far from done.”

Seems as though A. Sherrod Blakely was the first one to negate the original reports of a done deal, and now the associated press and the Free Press have quotes from Chauncey’s agent confirming the deal is not done.

Chauncey Billups’ agent refuted an Associated Press report that his client had agreed to a five-year, $60 million contract.

    Billups
“This is a vicious rumor,” Andy Miller, Billups’ agent, told The Detroit Free Press. “It’s entirely untrue. We have not reached an agreement. I don’t know what stage we’re at. We’re having ongoing discussions, and I don’t believe that we’re on the verge of signing an agreement anytime today by any stretch of the imagination.”

Whatever, the news is out and Billups is staying. So Andy Miller, can quit with peeping around the bush. Just like when everybody was speculating that C.Webb was coming home to the D,
they said that C.Web wasn’t anticipating on coming here(trying to cover up the story) and where did he land? In Detroit. So all I have to say is yay I am happy and I knew Joe D. wouldn’t let us down and do the wrong thing. That man (Mr. Bigshot) is so priceless and he is the molding that keeps this team together. and even though I felt last year we had this in the bag this year I am extra confident that we have it. We have Billups and of course (sigh of relief, lol) Rip, oh yeah and McDiggity. Now that they have relief from the new drafts, we should be well advanced and in tip top shape by playoff time and for the Finals ;). So Flip has no excuse now. He better give these guys enough playing time and don’t wear them out too early.
And there you have it the ’08 Champs: The Detroit Pistons!! Can’t you just hear Queens: WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, playing right now lol.
I am so giddy right now. I can’t wait for the season to start. And let’s prove them wrong, and show them that this dynasty is going strong!!

Our slogan should be for this year:
WE HAVE OUR CORE AND MUCH MORE. LOL

P.S. And if I am wrong, about this so called rumor, void everything I said please. lol It’s nothing more embarassing with egg on your face. ;(

I know that if this is coming from this site then it must be true, I know that you wouldn’t break my heart like that (you know by now that I love Chauncey). I would hate to have to visit this site in a couple hours and find that it was another rumor, I’m trying to have a good holiday off from work and I would like to party knowing that this is true! So I will just say……AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhh!!!!! for now and come back with another comment once its confirmed!!! Much love fellow Pistons fanatic, Jacqueline!!!!

Anonymous: We need A back up “point guard.” Lindsey Hunter” is a point guard. I KNOW we need a center, but if we can find a good back up point guard then why not. Like Brevin Knight. You know what im sayin? The other guys we picked up arent just strictly point guards.

    Bogus Rip rumor

I thought I blogged about this before, but I will do it again. Ignore all the radio blather about Rip Hamilton being traded to Seattle. It was a bogus rumor to start with and for whatever reason, it won’t die. But the teams have not, NOT, had a single discussion about Rip.

When the rumor first started to circulate, I called Scott Perry. The former Pistons director of player personnel is now the Sonics’ assistant general manager. I asked about the Rip rumor and he laughed. “We would love to have Rip,” he said. But then made it clear that there had been no talks and frankly, without Rashard Lewis, didn’t know what the Sonics could offer that the Pistons would want. The Pistons aren’t going to trade all-star Hamilton for a journeyman like Chris Wilcox — at least I would hope not.

I’d love to have Brevin Knight but first we needa sign Billups for sure and get rid of Murray and hopefully Nazr.. Heard if Hunter comes back he will just be a player/coach also get a good Center

    EXCELLENT BILLUPS STAYING IN DETROIT!!!

These are the next pressing issues that need to be addressed:

    – RESIGN AMIR JOHNSON

    – CENTER: magloire? c-webb?
    – BACKUP SF: g.hill? mo-pete? battier?
    – BACKUP PG: b.knight? boykins?

    just some suggestions here…

Congrats Pistons! Y’all in good hands with Joe D. This is the sort of smart move all GMs should be expected to make. I’m happy for you all because Detroit basketball is so fundamentally sound and that will continue.

This is amazing news for all Piston fans. Now its time to lock up the bench. Dice is great start. Would it not be possible to get Bonzi Wells? He’s worth a Flip Murray acquisition…any thoughts?

According to NBA.com though, it says that his agent denied all of this.

” Billups’ Agent Denies Deal Made With Pistons
In The Detroit Free Press, by Krista Jahnke, Chauncey Billups’ agent Andy Miller says, “We have not reached an agreement. I don’t know what stage we’re at. We’re having ongoing discussions, and I don’t believe that we’re on the verge of signing an agreement anytime today by any stretch of the imagination.” “

    I don’t know what to believe…

Very good news that bbbbillups is staying!
Hopefully Hill doesn’t go to the Suns and signs as a back-up to Prince…
Just need a true Center now… Not Magloire he is far to slow. I say we give minutes to Cheikh Samb and get him ready for the NBA. He is 7’2 and can shoot, block and rebound. I think this year give him 5-10 mins a game as well as garbage time. I hear he is starting to bulk up as well, I believe Samb is around the 240 mark now.
Dyce and sheed can play together as staring, with C-webb, Jason Mad-Max, and Johnson coming off the bench… Really want to see Max and Johnson play along side each other for 5minutes of madness a game, small but would be very quick and entertaining front court!

yeah, it says the same thing on espn.
the reason his agent is prolly saying it isnt final is to see if any last minute offers come by.
    it kinda makes sense.
either way this all seems unreal.
    but it is!
now ALL we need is rip :]]

Whether they’ve reached an agreement or not I’m not worried. Is anybody really worried? Like for real?

I read that the Magic don’t want Darko anymore. lol It’s not nice but it makes me giggle…

How crazy would it be if Grant Hill came to Detroit and the Pistons won the ‘ship next season? It’d be fairytale-like. lol

I think this is all like C-Webb saying no we didnt agree to anything..(they probably agreed)they just got a call from a team and they dont want to make themselves look bad by saying ill think about it…

What is Brevin Knight good at? haven’t heard of him..

Brevin Knight is unlikely…I guess he’s most interested in Denver and they share the same interest. Not a big loss in my opinion anyhow. He’s a point guard out of Stanford, that I believe came out in either 97 or 98. Never really flourished like he was supposed to, came up with the Cavs and bounced around. Somewhat of a small point guard, decent passing skills but never too impressed with his other offensive abilities. I’d rather see Stuckey play.

  35. Amanda

I’m sure we’d all rather see Stuckey play but I want the Pistons to win the ‘Ship next season and while I don’t know much about our draft picks, I think Knight would be a decent backup PG. Eh, I don’t know. I just can’t wait for next season to start up and I’m sure I’ll be happy watching Pistons basketball no matter who is added to the mix.

why are we focusing on a backup pg when there is no other small forward on the roster besides Prince? The pistons need to find a backup for him so he can play less minutes if they are going to win another championship any time soon.

  39. Amanda

lol No other small forward on the roster? What do you mean? We have (*trumpets sounding*) Super Dupe! Okay, so he played a grand total of like 10 minutes last season and he doesn’t have any outstanding skills. At least he looks good cheering from the sidelines in his street clothes!

P.S. By the way, that’s just a joke. I don’t want people to start yelling at me saying stuff like “Who cares if he looks good! We need a backup for Tay!” I realize we need a good bench SF to give Prince some relief ’cause he played too many minutes even when we had ‘Fino (*tear*) on the team.

Rodney Stuckey is gonna wear the # 3. I don’t know if he’s good enough to play that number. Especially considering who wore the number before him.

    Reply
  42. Amanda

If I were just entering the NBA, I would not choose a number that is worn by any stuperstars. More importantly, if I were going to Detroit I would NEVER choose the same number of the man who quote-unquote abandoned his team just 1 season ago. At least he ain’t a center or a player who people compare to Ben. That’d be too much.

When Stuckey dunks in Ben’s face, everybody will forget that Detroit #3 was from Ben Wallet. A great player, but not respect his former temam and goes to a division rival. Bye Ben. Welcome the new Number 3 Stuckey .
