On of my favorite sources of basketball information HoopsAddict.com has a great interview with Matt de la Pena, author of a book I highly recommend, “Ball Don’t Lie” which as I found out from HoopsAddict is being turned into a move. While you are there they have a must read on Playing For Peace, an organization that unites and educates children through basketball.
I also just noticed this link on Sports Illistrated.com about The Petition I started here at Need4Sheed.com. If you havnen’t already signed it, please do and get everyone who is unhappy with the rule to do the same. Sheed will appreciate it.
Natalie, Thank you for recommending this book–I’ll have to read this. I read the reviews on your link and this book seems to tell an important and underrepresented story, that is, basketball can provide an alternative path to individuals living in disenfranchised and urban communities. As the NBA attempts to rip basketball from its urban setting and its dearest fans in favor of broader and richer international markets, this book will become more and more important in the future. I can’t wait for the movie and the NBA’s reaction.
It’s a great book you won’t be sorry. I am also excited about the movie.
