The Pistons vs. The Spurs Christmas Day

by | Dec 24, 2005 | 0 comments

The Spurs, what a rival they have become. This is without a doubt the top rivalry in the NBA, now that Ron Artest will no longer be a part of the Pacers.

Let’s take a quick look at those Spurs.

Tim (The Robot) Duncan leads the team in points, rebounds and is second in assists. They have picked up Nick Van Excel and Michael Finley to strengthen their bench, which by the way if we had a good bench last year like we do this year, it wouldn’t have even have gone 7 games. After off season battling with the GM’s, Joe Dumars once again comes out on top. We have the better bench this year hands down.

Let’s take a quick look at the match ups for this Christmas Day Gift.

Centers – Rasho Nesterovic, Nazr Mohammed VS Ben Wallace
NO CONTEST AT ALL, they are both going to try to wear
Ben down by bumping him, throwing their elbows all over
the place and whining to the refs that Ben is too good to
stop on the boards. Advantage – Detroit

Power Forwards – Tim (The Robot) Duncan VS SHEEEED
This is a very good match up. Not sure how focused Sheed will be with the loss in the family, but if he’s on the floor expect him to give The Robot all he can handle. Their battles in the last 3 years have been CLASSIC. Sheed will bring Duncan out to the perimeter and with The Pistons motion offense, he will struggle and not really be a factor defensively. Let’s see how that affects his offense game.
Advantage – SHEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!

Small Forwards – Bruce (I’m a HACK) Bowen VS The Prince of the Palace.
Let’s see how much the refs let ”I’m A HACK ” get away with. Tay will be raining jumpers and driving all over the Palace on Sunday. Expect him to have a huge game.
Advantage-Detroit

Shooting Guards – Michael (Fins) Finley VS RIP
Another game deciding match up. RIP has been on fire this season even
if he’s not shooting, he’s doing other things to help us, and with the added 10 pounds of muscle he has put on over the summer he won’t be getting pushed around by Fins NO MORE. Also factor in Finley’s age.
Advantage – Detroit

Point Guard – Tony (I’m a RAP STAR) Parker VS Chauncey (MVP) Billups
Tony Parker will be brought back down to earth after this game. He’s said repeatedly during the summer and throughout the season that he’s the best point guard in the NBA. He said ”just ask those guys that we beat in the Finals”. Billups doesn’t forget and he’s been quietly
waiting on this battle. Expect Parker to let a few choice words in another language out of his bag after some MVP three’s from DOWNTOWN!!!
Advantage – Detroit

The Benches – TheSpurs Nick Van Excel, Robert Horry, Brent Barry, Fabriciio Oberto VS The Pistons Dice, Carlos Arryo, Mo Evans, Carlos Delfino, and Dale Davis
Nick Van Excel could be a big problem if he gets hot, but that remains to be seen. This season he has struggled to fit into The Spurs offense, still searching for his role. Robert Horry has no post game and The Pistons are not going to let him even catch the ball on the perimeter. As for The Pistons, expect Carlos Delfino to have a big game, he does well against The Spurs. Dice will be Boarding and scoring in the post when need be.
Advantage – Detroit

Coaching – Gregg Pop VS Flip
Flip now has the tools to overcome one of his biggest coaching rivals.
Advantage – Detroit

With that said let’s all open those small gifts and get in front of the TV for the biggest GIFT yet, a PISTONS VICTORY on Christmas Day! Pistons 98 Spurs 82.
DEEEEEEEEEETTTROIIIIIIITTT BASKETBALL.
