The 1-0 #Pistons are on the road to take on the 0-1 Grizzles in Memphis. Memphis looks to bounce back in their home opener, after taking a hit in their opener against a San Antonio team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year.

  • The good:Detroit will have Rodney Stuckey back in the lineup after recovering from a broken thumb he sustained a few weeks back. Brandon Jennings looks like he will return on Sunday against the Celtics, adding to the number of Detroit players who’ve donned a mask on court to protect their injuries.
Memphis stands at 4-14 in home openers.
  • The bad: Memphis, is coming off the best season in franchise history and have won seven straight against Detroit.
  • The unknown: Who’s front court will dominate?  Detroit matches up well against Gasol, Randolph and our old friend Tayshaun Prince. If Drummond, Monroe and Smith have decent games the Pistons may be heading home for Sunday’s match-up with the Celtics 2-0.

Tip off is at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

New starting lineup tonight y’all:

PG: McGrady
SG: Stuckey
SF: Tayshaun
PF: Won’tcox Wilcox
C: Monroe

Same great results!

Ben Wallace was out with an ankle so rookie Greg Monroe stepped in.  Chris Wilcox stepped into the lineup for Villanueva after putting together some pretty solid performances lately (I think it was to showcase him for a trade).  Ben Gordon was placed back on the bench and Rodney Stuckey started at the 2 guard spot.  There is a name you won’t see on the box score tonight and that is Richard Hamilton.  Hamilton earned the dreaded “DNP-CD” or Did Not Play – Coaches Decision tag tonight.

It doesn’t matter who plays when you lose, you still lost.  The Pistons played well early on, mainly due to the Grizzlies’ poor start offensively.  In typical fashion, the Pistons allowed the Grizzlies to build a big lead in the 3rd quarter and even though the Pistons were able to make the games close, the Grizzlies were able to hold on until the end with a 107-99 win at the Palace.  Let’s get to the highlights:

  • Former Michigan State Spartan, Zach Randolph, put up 34 points and nabbed 17 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
  • Tonight’s game is a perfect example of Tayshaun’s offensive output will be determined by the person he is guarding.  Prince scored 8 points on 3 of 13 shooting while Rudy Gay scored 26 points on 10 of 13 shooting.
  • Ben Gordon lead all Pistons’ scorers with 25 points off the bench, having scored 0 points in the first half.

  • Not 1 Grizzlies player had a negative +/- while only 1 Piston player had a positive +/- (Wilcox).
  • Jason Maxiell sighting!  The baby eater saw 10 minutes of action and provided 3 points and 4 rebounds but was a team worst -15 during that time.
  • The Pistons’ starting 5 had a combined 6 turnovers, which is not bad considering there is not a natural Point Guard in the bunch.
  • I wonder what DaJuan Summers and Richard Hamilton talked about during their time together on the bench.
  • No Will Bynum either :( – Bynumite has had an off-year due to injuries and slumps.  I think I speak for Natalie when I say we hope he gets back to playing how we all know he can.
  • Why is OJ Mayo not starting in Memphis? lol
  • Greg Monroe with 4 straight double doubles – I think as he continues to grow as an NBA player, this will become the norm for The Moose.  Over his last 5 games Monroe has averaged 11.2 points and 10 rebounds per game.
