The Detroit #Pistons put up another convincing win Saturday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills Saturday night behind stellar games from Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith. The Pistons 126-109 win was the most point they’d score since they defeated the Denver in March of 2008.

Key Points:

  • Brandon Jennings was on fire scoring a season high 35 points on 11-of-22 shooting with 12 assists and just two turnovers.  Another highlight filled night from Brandon, on the night after he narrowly missed a triple double.  Credit Jennings for being a catalyst during their run in the third quarter and pushing the lead to 14.
  • Brandon Jennings Highlights via NBA.com

  • Jennings is currently 4th in the league for PG’s in efficiency in the past five games, and ranked 7th in the past 10.
  • Another reason why the NBA should be ashamed of themselves for Andre Drummond not being an All-Star reserve.  Andre with his Eastern Conference leading 38th double-double scoring 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting, with 15 boards and three blocked shots. Andre’s numbers speak for themselves and watching him makes it evident that he’s a star.
  • The Pistons won with game playing just three off the bench.  Stuckey played 28 minutes, scoring 19, while Caldwell-Pope and Jerebko combined for 14 minutes and zero points.
  • No Bynum again.
  • Josh Smith with 30 points on 14-of-27 shooting with 10 boards, 8 assists, four steals and a blocked shot.  Two almost triple-double’s in two nights from two different Pistons.  That’s nice!

  • The Pistons put up 65 at the half.
  • Just 10 turnovers for the Pistons Saturday night.  Less than half from the night before.
  • Greg Monroe with 14  points and six boards in 30 minutes.
  • It’s clear that Detroit has and issue with Harrellson out, especially when Drummond or Monroe get into foul trouble.
  • Game Highlights via Pistons.com

  • Kyle Singler with the start again. Kyle scored 10 on 4-of-10 shooting with three boards, two steals and one assist. He didn’t shoot as well as he did Friday night, but he’s still putting up better numbers offensively that KCP.
  • 66 points in the paint for the Pistons.
  • Monday night at the Palace against the Spurs will not be easy.

The #Pistons treated their fans to a game they wished they would see more often, especially at The Palace of Auburn Hills.  Detroit dismantled the Brooklyn Nets in a game that at one point led by as much as 29.  Brandon Jennings and Andre Drummond put up special numbers in the Pistons 111-95 win Friday night.

Key Points:

  • The Pistons clearly dominated the first half, but let the Nets get close late in the game. Brooklyn got the lead down to just nine with a little more than a minute to play.
  • Six Pistons in double figures.
  • The Pistons had a whopping 52 points in the paint, while dominating the boards 57-40.
  • Chauncey Billups, who hadn’t played since January 10th played nine minutes, scoring two points and two assist. Billups knee injury has been sidelined him, but the fact that he returned the game after Cheeks and Bynum had their argument during the Magic game doesn’t seem like much of a coincidence. Bynum was a DNP.
  • Brandon Jennings let the Pistons with 26 points, 10 boards and nine assists  missing a triple-double by just one assist.  Jennings had a chance for that last assist in the final seconds of the game, but instead drained a three-pointer to end the game.

  • Andre Drummond with another double-double and another career high. Andre grabbed 22 rebounds, the most since McDyess did it in 2009 for Detroit. Drummond added 16 points, a steal and a blocked shot in 39:51 on the floor. It’s such a travesty that Drummond won’t represent this team in the All-Star game.
  • Monore with 12 points and 7 assists.
  • Looks like we won’t see much of Josh Harrellson anytime soon, an MRI showed a meniscus tear in his knee. There is no timetable on his return.
  • Detroit still needs to cleanup their turnovers. The Pistons with 22 on the night, 8 of them coming from Jennings.
  • Highlights via NBA.com

  • Fun to watch for Pistons fans.
  • Rodney Stuckey with 14 points in 28 minutes.
  • A 20-5 run in the first quarter set the tone for this win.
  • Kyle Singler, who started for KCP dropped 16 on 6-of-13 shooting. Singler, who’s in there for the offense gave Detroit a considerable boost, especially when they were making their early run.
  • Josh Smith had some highlights in the win. Smith put up 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting in 35 minutes on the floor. He added seven assists, eight boards and a whopping 4 blocked shots.
  • Pistons fans hope Saturday night’s game against Denver at The Palace is as enjoyable to watch as this one was.

The 19-29 #Pistons will host the 22-25 Brooklyn Nets Friday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons have won both games against the Nets this season, but since then Brooklyn’s “issues” have settled down, they are an entirely different team. The Nets will try to make it three in a row, while Detroit would like to do whatever they can to play better on their home court.

The good: The last time the Pistons played the Net they scored a season high 38 points in the second quarter. Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe continue to play well despite the Pistons’ record.
The bad: The Pistons played awful in their loss to the lottery bound Magic Wednesday night. At one point they looked like they had thrown in the towel.
Joe Johnson scored 34 in the first meeting and is averaging 23.0 points against the Pistons this season.
The unknown: Will Kyle Singler get the starting nod again? Did the Bynum – Cheeks argument get cleared up yet? Will and Cheeks got into a huge argument in the second quarter of the Pistons loss to the Magic and was benched for the rest of the game. Can Brandon Jennings bounce back shooting 5-of-23 on the night in Orlando? Can the Pistons start defending their home court even though they are having trouble defending.

Injuries:
Pistons: Josh Harrellson (knee) is questionable.
Nets: Brooke Lopez – Out.

Pistons-Nets-Stats

Stat: Andre Drummond recorded his first career 20-point, 20-rebound game with 21 points and a career-high 20 rebound vs.New Orleans (1/24). Drummond became the first piston with a 20-20 game since Antonio McDyess vs. New York (3/11/09).
Stat: The Pistons are first in the NBA for most offensive rebounds per game, averaging 14.6 per game.

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

The #Pistons did what they were supposed to do on a snowy Saturday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills against a lesser opponent, dominate them. Detroit treated their fans to a 113 – 96 blowout against the Philadelphia 76ers, making it just the second time this season that they have strung together two consecutive home game victories.

Key Points:

  • Five Pistons in double figures and three with double-doubles. The usual suspects being Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe, but Kyle Singler added another tying his career high in rebounds with 10.
  • The last time Detroit had three players with at least 20 points and 10 rebounds was Dec. 3, 1997 when Grant Hill, Bison Dele and Lindsey Hunter all reached those numbers in a 108-103 win over Phoenix.
  • Andre Drummond started the game off on a mission and really showed the league that they make a mistake no selecting him as an All-Star reserve. Drummond finished the game with 22 points on 10-if-11 shooting, with 14 boards and a ridiculous five blocked shots. Did I mention this steal for a Dummified dunk to start the second half?

  • Don’t forget Greg Monroe who also posted big number going 8-for-10 for 21 points, with 12 boards, three assists and four steals in 28 minutes.  If he ends up going at the trade deadline there will be a ton of unhappy Pistons fans out there.
  • Drummond and Monroe were a combined 18-for-21.
  • Great night for Singler to put up a good game.  Stuckey with just eight minutes on the floor scoring just one point.  Stuckey was complaining of dizziness.
  • I so want to root for Gigi Datome, but the limited minutes he does get never seem to amount to anything.  He was 0-of-4 in seven minutes on the floor.
  • Caldwell-Pope with 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting.  Looks like it’s going to take at least a full season to get his shot consistent.  I do however like what he does on the defensive end.
  • Smith, 4-of-10 for nine points and nine boards. I don’t think I’ve come across one Piston fan that can say they like him.  If you’re that fan please let me know.
  • Brandon Jennings is always looking for his shot.  He was 6-of-17 for 20 points and just four assists.
  • Highlights via NBA.com

  • Bynum, who is notorious for looking for his own, had six assists in just 22 minutes.  Brandon was on the floor for 37.
  • Kid Rock and Pistons owner Tom Gores in the house.  I’m pretty sure Gores does not own a long sleeve shirt. Despite Gores Always Sunny attire, he claims he understands this team needs time.
  • Nice to see Detroit hold a team to under 100.
  • I’m really getting to like the other Josh more and more.
  • It’s fun to watch when they play like this, isn’t it?
  • Monday in Miami should be different.

The Pistons snapped their four game losing streak with a 103-87 win over the Orlando Magic at The Palace of Auburn Hills.  Detroit held the Magic to less than 100 points, something they haven’t been able to do in quite some time. Detroit has given up over 100 points in 19 of their last 25 games.

Key Points:

  • Despite not hitting his first few shots, Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting with eight assists and three steals. Jennings is scoring the bulk of Detroit’s points on many nights so it’s nice to see his turn over ratio go down since he’s handling the ball for most of the time he’s out there.

Andre DrummondAndre Drummond: “Last game was a tough game. I didn’t play to my ability. Everybody is entitled to have an off night. I had to come out and play with a lot more energy than I had the night before.” Via NBA.com

  • Detroit was in the driver’s seat most of the night, but it was a 9-0 run in the third quarter to make it 70-55 that took all the life out of Orlando.
  • Andre Drummond with his 33rd double-double of the season. Dre scored 13 with 17 boards and two blocked shots in 32 minutes on the floor. Andre made up for his sub-par game against the Mavericks by playing like a beast from the tip-off. He just about had his double-double before the half.

  • Great Stat – Drummond’s 12.7 rebounding average is No. 1 in NBA history for a player 20 years old or younger.
  • Caldwell-Pope didn’t do much offensively, but he sure did a nice job on the defensive end against former Piston Arron Afflalo who put up 14 for Orlando.
  • It was nice to see Josh Harrellson get some time early. He made the most of it knocking down a three and grabbing eight boards in 18 minutes.
  • Gigi had some garbage minutes scoring two points on two shots. Was I the only one that had high hopes for him?
  • Maybe Josh Smith is reading his shot selection stat and the fact that he’s one of the worst shooters in the league. Smith scored 16 on 8-of-12 shooting, with much better shot selection.
  • Highlights via NBA.com

  • I got a change to use the Pistons app on my phone to upgrade my seats yesterday. And sure enough scored some prime court-side. Thanks @ThePalace !

bynumWill Bynum: “There’s a lot of bad things roaming in the air, a lot of negative energy, so we’re just happy to get a win.”

  • Props to Rodney Stuckey who put up 13 while surpassing the 6000 career point mark.
  • Singler with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting with four boards and a blocked shot.
  • It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen this team with the fire they showed from start to finish. Think Cheeks knows he’s on the hot seat?
  • A quick turnaround with a game Wednesday night in Atlanta.

I can’t blame any Pistons fan who flipped the channel Friday night in the first quarter of the Pistons 76ers game.  The Sixers burst out of the game and had Detroit up 19-2 early in the first quarter.  What looked like another disappointing loss turned out to be the Pistons first victory in seven games, as they roared back in the third quarter to top the Sixers 114-104.

Key Points:

  • The first six or so minutes of this game could have driven loyal Pistons fans to drink giving how Detroit has played since they took down the Pacers on their home court.
  • Credit Josh Smith for turning his game around giving Detroit a lift and putting up a stat line that was needed and unexpected at the same time. Josh led the Pistons with 22 points (on cough….) 8-of-23 shooting  with 13 boards, seven assists, four steals and five blocked shots.  One of those blocks was a ridiculous two-handed denial.  Not saying things have turned around, but it’s nice to see a balanced line from Josh. He’s always going to shoot first, and a ton of them are going to be cringe worthy, but some nights he puts the team in a position to win.  I guess that’s all you can ask from him.

smithJosh Smith when asked about if it was easier playing a little power forward during the game.
“Yeah, because the majority of the time, the guy that you’re guarding is around the rim as opposed to having to having to guard a spot-up jump shooter that you have to be a little closer to him. I just wanted to be active, fly all over the place, and set the mark on what we needed to do to win.”

  • Seven Pistons in double figures.
  • Great game for Will Bynum who was a +20 going 6-of-11 for 16 points, eight boards and three assists in 34 minutes. Can’t however let the five turnovers slide.
  • 18 turnovers on the night for Detroit.
  • Bless Chauncey Billups, his only basket was a much-needed triple.  He played just 7:23.
  • Detroit with a better 42.6% percent on the night.
  • A Pistons 15-2 run put them over the top in the third.
  • Kyle Singler with 16 points, eight boards, three assists a steal and blocked shot.  I wouldn’t be surprised that if there were a lineup change, it would be a swap of Singler for Pope.
  • Stuckey still struggling with his shoulder, played just three first half minutes.
  • Big Andre Drummond with another double-double. Dre scored 11 with 12 boards and a staggering 6 blocked shots.  Are you voting for him in for the All-Star game?

  • Greg Monroe, who’s been the talk of trade rumors of late, added another double-double on the season. Monroe scored 15 with 10 boards and a steal.
  • A bounce back for Brandon Jennings who has really been struggling to score. Brandon with 19 points on 4-of-10 shooting, with six assists, three boards and two steals in 28 minutes.

Highlights via NBA.com

  • Detroit won the board war 62-42.
  • The Sixers scored 64 of their points in the paint to 50 for Detroit.
  • Detroit led by just two late in the fourth quarter 100-98, but pulled away scoring five in a row and never looked back.
  • Caldwell-Pope with 12 points going 2-of-4 from downtown, with seven boards, and three steals in 30 minutes.
  • Saturday night for a second game of a back-to-back against the Suns will be a tall task for Detroit.

If you’re a Pistons fan and you missed the Pistons at the Magic be thankful that you got a late holiday gift.  Orlando trounced Detroit leading the Pistons by as much as 22 point in their 109-92 win.

Key Points:

  • The Magic had not won on their own court in a month before Friday night.
  • The dynamic duo of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond didn’t bring their games to Disney World.  Greg scored six with six boards, while Andre squeaked in another double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.
  • Gigi Datome with 21 minutes on the floor shot just 1-of-6.
  • Josh Smith 2-for-13 for five points.
  • A big zero for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who played 24 minutes.
  • Despite how bad it looked and sounded, Detroit did make a run in the third quarter to get within seven. It was too bad that terrible ball handling and shot selection took them right out of it.
  • Another game where Detroit makes a struggling sub-par team look like All-Stars (exception Arron Afflalo).
  • Detroit, who lead the league in points in the paint were outscored by the Magic 58-48.
  • Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 21 points and eight assists.

jenningsBrandon Jennings: “At this point right now, we need every win we can get, we don’t want to keep letting games like this slip.”

  • Jonas Jerebko and Josh Harrellson were the only two Pistons in the plus category for the game.  Josh scored nine points and six boards, while Jonas scored eight in 13 minutes.
  • Rodney Stuckey looks to have re-injured his shoulder.
  • Will Bynum with 18 points in 19:55 on the floor.
  • Video recap via NBA.com

  • I’m ready to wash this one away in hopes of a Wizards win Saturday night.

The 4-8 #Pistons are in Brooklyn for a Sunday afternoon game against the 3-9 Nets. Neither team is setting the NBA on fire this season. Brooklyn, who were expected to be an Eastern Conference threat after acquiring Kevin Garnett, Joe Johnson and Paul Pierce , have lost four straight and are plagued with injuries.

  • The good: The Pistons should be able to to stop the bleeding against the Nets. The Nets have lost seven of their last eight games, and their last four by an average of 12.4 points. Garnett is averaging a career low, Paul Pierce looks tired and Joe Johnson’s best days are behind him. Add the fact that Andrei Kirilenko, Brook Lopez, Jason Terry and Deron Williams will not play due to injury and it’s the perfect storm for the visiting Pistons.
  • The bad: The Pistons lost all four against the Nets last season and have lost eight of their last 10 game in Brooklyn. As bad as the Nets have looked lately, Detroit hasn’t looked much better. Both teams need to get things going and Sunday’s game may just come down to who wants it more.
  • The unknown: Is the Josh Smith issue an issue, or can he wash away the drama and start hitting his shots? It’s still not known if Chauncey Billups or Will Bynum will be back, they are each still listed as day-to-day.

Stat: Andre Drummond still leads the NBA in field goal percentage with 66.4%
Fact:  The Pistons are tied for second in the NBA in steals this season, averaging 9.8 steals per game.

Tip off is at 2:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at WWJ 950 AM.

The Pistons improve to 2-and-1 on the season after a 87-77 victory over the “new look” Boston Celtics.  The Pistons Big-3 Josh Smith, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond each scored 15 points to help Detroit, donned in their Motor City uniforms, to a sold win.

Key Points:

  • This is one of the deepest Pistons teams we’ve seen in years.  Despite the Celtics making it close down the stretch, Chauncey Billups and Will Bynum finished this one on the bench.
  • Five Pistons in double figures.
  • Andre Drummond is a dunking/rebound machine! He lights up the Palace like nothing we’ve seen in quite some time.  Dre finished with 15 (mostly dunks), 12 boards 2 blocked shots and 2 steals.

  • If I’m a Celtics fan I just can’t root for that hair – Kelly Olynyk.  Olynyk was the Celtics high scorer with 15 off the bench.
  • Speaking of hair, is Gigi ever going to get playing time?
  • Brandon Jennings made an immediate impression on the Palace crowd in his debut.  Jennings with 14 off the bench for Detroit in 30 minutes with 4 assists, and 4 steals.  Jennings makes this team different in a very good way. His first two points as a Pistons were pretty sweet.

  • I wonder how that other Brandon is doing?
  • Double-double for both Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.
  • Singler and Jerebko have played scrappy and hard in all three games of the season.
  • Monroe with 10 boards and 15 points.
  • Boy is the front-court fun to watch.
  • The Pistons need to learn hot to put a team like the Celtics away.  They had way too many chances to put it in the book, but almost let them steal one down the stretch.
  • The Stuckey and Jennings tandem looks great.
Josh Smith Pistons vs Celtics Motor City Uniforms

  • Josh Smith finished with 15 points on 7-of-15 shooting with 7 boards, 3 assists 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.  I’m getting really fond of him when he’s not chucking up three-pointers.
  • I’m a big fan of the Motor City uniforms.
  • This one was a party in the paint.  54 points in the paint for Detroit and the board war won 44-37.
  • Though they almost let this one slip away, the Pistons regained their composure and scored the last eight points of the game.
  • Turnover an issues, the Pistons with 21 on the night.

  • Tuesday at the Palace against the Pacers will not be easy.

The Pistons looked like a fresh new team Friday night on the road against Memphis.  They put themselves in a place to win their second game of the season on the road against a Grizzlie team that haven’t beaten in quite some time.

Something happened that we aren’t used to seeing, Chauncey Billups on the line with 52 seconds left in the game and he missed one.  That would have put the Pistons up five and probably put the game away. He also had a chance to win it in regulation, but his three just missed.  Instead Memphis dominated in overtime topping the Pistons 111-108.

Key Points:

  • I’m the first one to sit here and tell you I feel like Rodney Stuckey is a huge disappointment, but he came out in his first game of the season like gangbusters.  In fact if it weren’t for his strong play coming off the bench the Pistons may not have even been in the position to win this game. Rodney scored 19 points in 23 minutes on 8-for-13 shooting and was a +14 in the box. I hope Rodney proves me wrong this season.
  • Loved the stare down by Drummond on Miller after this dunk

  • Detroit was close to putting it away and even closer when Josh Smith hit a triple to pout them up by six with a little over a minute left in the game. For every 47 ill advised triples Smith takes, he makes one big one. He was 3-for-11 from downtown. Smith took more threes than the entire Pistons team combined.
  • This was a balanced game with all starters in double figures except Billups as well as Caldwell-Pope, Singler and Stuckey off the bench.
Caldwell-Pope-Pistons-vs-Grizzlies

  • Great game from Caldwell-Pope, who finished with 13 points in 18 minutes most of which were in crunch time. His breakaway dunk in the fourth quarter rivaled one of Andre Drummond.
  • Im ok with CV31 being inactive.
  • Clearly Detroit needs to tighten up on the defensive end. They allowed a ton of easy baskets.
  • Greg Monroe was great again scoring 16 with eight boards and three steals. His scrappy play in all of his 41 minutes on the floor shows you that he does whatever it takes to win a game.
  • Smith finished with 19 points, five assists, eight boards and three blocked shots. He and Andre are going to make this team hard to dunk on.

Chauncey Billups: “I loved it,” he said. “We fought hard. We fought really hard. That’s a tough team over there. Western Conference finals last year, got some great players over there. So I was impressed. I learned a lot about our team today.”

  • When the Pistons got themselves up in the fourth quarter it was Monroe, Drummond and Caldwell-Pope who were turning heads and making plays.
  • Old friend Tayshaun Prince helped Memphis put this game away with 2 big shots.
  • Andre Drummond looks better every single game. He stayed out of foul trouble and put up 12 points with 16 boards. Yes…16! Add the two blocked shots and some swagger and you have a bright star in this league.
  • Celtics Sunday at The Palace Of Auburn Hills.
