The Pistons 124-103 win over the Sixers snapped the Pistons 11 game losing streak. Plenty to not in this game that had the Sixers and Pistons tied at 61 at the half, until Detroit turned up the D and on Piston (Charlie V) tried to make his wrong right.

Key Points:

  • Before the tip Eli Zaret explained the reason for the Charlie V and Austin Daye venting tweets. The official response was that Charlie and Austin were “a few minutes late” for the team plane and it took off without them. That’s why they were upset and that’s why they both flew to Philadelphia commercially. Me, I’m not buying it. What about the heated practice?
  • Austin Daye alludes to the tweets in his post game interview as frustration at himself due to bad play, NOT a missed flight.  When asked..”you missed the plane”  Austin replays., “that had nothing to do with it.”
  • Austin’s post game…you be the judge.

  • So if that’s what it takes to get Charlie Villanueva to play ball, so be it. Charlie led the Pistons with 25 points on 8-for-11 shooting in 23 minutes going 4-for-5 from downtown. Where was this guy for 75 games?
  • Austin Daye did a little making up too, 9 points and 9 boards in 22 minutes. Both Charlie and Austin sparked the run early in the second half.
  • Honestly, surprised seeing either of them on court for Detroit.
  • Season high in points for the Pistons.
  • Big Ben Wallace season high in points anchoring the offense and the defense for Detroit.  Ben finished the game with 18 points on 8-for-10 shooting with 6 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals in just 24 minutes.  Please come back next season Mr. Wallace.

  • Pistons and Wizards are tied for the 4 worst record in the NBA after this win.  That stat for the lottery ball counters.
  • The Pistons 67% shooting on the night over 70% in the second half.
  • The plus/minus in the box score for Detroit is the best I have seen all season long.
  • No Rip, Atkins, Brown, Atkins and Maxiell and Wilcox were inactive.
  • JJ for the play of the Day!

  • Jonas played so hard and for so many minutes (38) he war drenched with sweat with no sign of hair gel left on his head.  Jerebko scored11 with 5 boards, 4 assists  a blocked shot and 2 steals.  The Pistons found a heck of a starter, and a fan favorite  in the second round of the Draft.
  • Ben Gordon actually knocked some shots down….commence celebrating.  (13 points on 6-for-10 shooting with 2 assists, a steal)
  • Board war won 33-26.
  • Seven Pistons in double figures.
  • Bynum a quiet 10 points, 6 assists and 2 steals.  Can we keep him Joe?
  • 47 points from the Pistons bench.
  • Stucktacular – the great games keep coming from Rodney.  Stuck with 24 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals as SHOOTING GUARD.  He also came back from a really bad elbow he took in the ribs.  Kid has heart!

Rodney StuckeyPhoto/Getty Images

  • Same with Tayshaun, as soon as he had that one breakout game after his injury, he hasn’t stopped.  Tay with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting with 7 boards, 4 assists and 2 steals.  And this Tayriffic DUNK!

  • Atlanta again for the second to last home game for Detroit this season Wednesday night.

The Pistons vs. The Suns

The 23-52 Pistons in Atlanta to face the 48-27 Hawks Saturday evening.
NBA.com Preview

Riddled with injuries to some key players in the final weeks of a frustrating season, Detroit (23-52) will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Making matters worse, the Pistons are mired in their longest losing stretch since dropping 13 in a row from Dec. 15-Jan. 11.

The Pistons haven’t won since a 101-87 victory over Washington – one of two teams worse than them in the Eastern Conference – on March 12.

Silver lining – The Pistons are just a game ahead of the Wizards and Warriors for the 3rd worst record in the NBA. What does that mean? More L’s = More Balls!

The Pistons vs. The Heat

The 23-50 Pistons are hosting the 40-34 Miami Heat Wednesday evening at The Palace. Miami has won 11 of their last 14 games, while Detroit is on an 8 game losing steak.  The Pistons are waiting for their lottery pick, while Miami is getting ready for the playoffs.

Injury Report: Via Pistons.com

For the Pistons, who have lost eight in a row, Rip Hamilton is questionable after turning his right ankle against the Bulls on Sunday. Ben Wallace remains a game-time decision with knee soreness and a third starter from the Jan. 29 game, Chris Wilcox, has been sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Rodney Stuckey, who also sprained an ankle on Sunday, practiced Tuesday and is expected to play but continue coming off the bench. The Pistons (23-50) will see the Heat again in Miami on Apr. 9.

NEED4SHEED GAME CHAT

The Pistons dropped another game, and with it another season series.  The Bulls swept the Pistons for the first time in 14 seasons, while handing them their 8th loss in a row.

The final score 110-103.

Key Points:

  • How long has Flip Murray been with the Bulls?  Long enough to put up 23 points on his former team.
  • The Bulls went on a 31-11 run to take a 64-44 halftime lead. You need to score big numbers, just play the Pistons, apposing teams are averaging 110 points against.
  • The Bulls lead by as much as 21, the Pistons scored the first 5 points, which was their biggest lead of the game.
  • I’m sure the Pistons would love to have Ben Wallace back, their really is no D in the D without him.
  • Couldn’t pull it out despite a game high 29 points from Rip Hamilton.  Rip was 10-for-20 with 5 assists, a steal and one board in 34 minutes on the floor.
  • DaJuan Summers gets 5 minutes on the court lat in the game and scores a quick 7 points and almost gets Detroit back in the game.  I’ll take more Summers time please.  He’s athletic, has quick feet and can knock down the tree.
  • Rodney Stuckey is really playing well off the bench.  Stuck scored 20 points in 26 minutes with 3 boards and three assists.  He rolled his ankle in the third quarter and it looked like he wouldn’t return, but he got a magic tape up from Arnie and just kept on scoring.

Rodney StuckeyPhoto/Getty Images

  • Charlie Villanueva …..pathetic. He played just 4 minutes and the only shots he took didn’t even come close to the rim. You might want to go with that whole side of barn analogy.
  • Ben Gordon par for the course, 1-for-5 on the night for 3 points. When Kwame Brown scores just as many points as you….you have problems.
  • Another nice showing from Austin Day, he’s got to help grab boards, but he does know how to score.
  • A Tay inbound pass right to Austin Day for the easy lay in, was not only nice but scared the Bulls into a time out when the game clock was winding down.
  • Prince with 13 points, 6 assists a steal and 3 boards.  He’s really looked good and he’s handling the ball well.  It’s too bad his performances haven’t translated into wins.
  • Maxiell is still doing his best to fill in for Ben.  Jason scored 4 with 10 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks. He’s all we  have on the defensive end right now.
  • Solid stat line again from Jonas Jerebko,  who had one of the nicest jump hooks I have seen from a Piston in quite some time.  JJ finished with 12 points, 5 boards and an assist in 37 minutes on the floor (the most of any Pistons player).   I love the fact that the fans have embraced him, but can someone tell me what the relevance of the “Eagle” is?  The two young men that I see at almost every game that dress up and have Swedish Eagle signs really makes me think.
  • Jokim Noah drives me nuts…does he always have to try to look goofy?  The Bulls had their black uniforms on with the black shoes and black socks.  Noah just had to have the white shoes on to make himself stand out while looking like an out of place 6th grader.

  • At least they fought back in the second half, right?
  • Don’t forget I’m expecting your calls Monday night when I co-host the Celtics Late Night Show from 9 to 11 pm. This is your chance to get all your green hate out. We’ll be taking your calls all throughout the show so I’m expecting Pistons fans to outnumber the Celtics fans. We have to complain to someone don’t we?

The Pistons vs. The Pacers

The 23-48 Pistons are in New Jersey to take on the 8-63 Nets.  The Pistons may actually win this one so you might want to tune in. But you never know, Detroit has dropped 13 of 15 overall and nine in a row away from home for its worst road skid since 11 straight defeats Dec. 4, 2001-Jan. 11, 2002.

I’m still hoping for more Summers Daye time.

NEED4SHEED GAME CHAT

The Pistons just got swept this season by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the first time that happened in 30 years. The 79-104 loss is really an afterthought after what has turned out to be a season of frustration and disappointment.
This game just added to the mess that is the Detroit Pistons 2009-2010 season.

Jason Maxiell and Will BynumPhoto/Getty Images

  • The only thing positive of not from this game for a Detroit fan was the play of Jason Maxiell. Jason led the Pistons with 16 points, 9 boards and a block. Nothing against Maxi, but when he leads the team with 16, that stat pretty much tells the story of the game.
  • One thing I am happy about….that Fred McCleod (Ex Pistons broadcaster) is in Cleveland and is as annoying as ever,  just listen to him call the block on JJ. He seems to have turned it up substantially since heading to the land of LeBron and I for one am happy he’s anywhere but here.
  • Maxiell Highlights.

  • At this point, I’m just excited to see more of DaJuan Summers, and Austin Day.
  • The Lottery Balls have our name on them. Right now for the the Pistons, it’s all about balls…..the lottery variety.
  • New slogan for this season really should be “The Detroit Pistons – We Got Balls”

Detroit Pistons The Season of Balls

When you have a DVR it give you the luxury of starting the game when you can rather than when it starts.  I couldn’t catch the start of the game so my plan was to watch the game in its entirety right when I got home.  I usually can’t keep myself in the dark score wise (I just need to know), so when I opened up my Pistons Blackberry app and saw that the game was 6-21 in favor of the Pacers and it was mid first quarter I wasn’t exactly rushing home to see it.  To my surprise after digging themselves a substantial hole and trailing the game by double digits for most of the game, Detroit climbed back in the game taking a 95-94 lead thanks to a huge three from DaJuan Summers with 2:51 remaining.

It didn’t matter however, the Pacers scored the next 8 points and won 102-106.

Key Points:

  • I don’t care what you say there is some kind of issue going on with Rip Hamilton.  When I guy like Rip does his best “Kobe” impression by not looking for his shot and scoring ZERO points, something is up.  Rip was 0-for-3 in 18 minutes on the floor with 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 turnovers.  When he was resigned to the bench….he either looked pissed off, or he was sulking.  Let’s keep our eyes on this situation.
  • Detroit had 7 turnover in the first quarter, but clamped down and finished the game with 13.
  • Limited minutes for Ben Wallace who looked good in his 24 minutes.  Ben scored just one point, grabbed 7 boards, with 3 steals and an assist.  How we did miss the man.
  • Ben Gordon scores 17 on 4-13 shooting with 7 boards, 6 assists and 2 blocked shots.  Great game for Ben, but when it counted late in the fourth quarter he couldn’t knock down the shot.
  • Sometimes I think Gordon is still getting his check from the Bulls, not the Pistons.
  • If this wasn’t a statement from Rodney Stuckey than I don’t know what is.  Rodney was on fire as soon as he checked into the game.  Not only was it good to see him play, he didn’t look apprehensive about anything considering the circumstances.  Stuckey scored 25 in 26 minutes for the Pistons with 3 assists, 3 steals and a turnover playing most all of his minutes at the 2 guard position.   Stucktacular!

StucktacularPhoto/Getty Images

I feel all right,” Stuckey said of his 26 minutes. “The plan wasn’t to play all those minutes, but it was just in the heat of the game. I feel fine, and my wind felt fine. Via The Detroit Free Press

  • Detroit shot a shocking 50% from behind the long line.  Only bad thing about that was Indiana shot 53%.
  • Jerebko with 10 points, 6 boards and 3 steals.  You can count on him each game with numbers like that or better.
  • Best thing I can say about Charlie Villanueva is that he’s been a disappointment this season.
  • Nine points for Will, with 4 assist in 21 minutes.
  • What a miserable 3 quarters for Detroit, I was almost happy FSN didn’t broadcast this game in HD.  Who wants to see all that blood?
  • We just bettered ourselves in the Lottery standings!  The Pistons are tied with the Pacers for the fifth-worst record in the league.
  • Give DaJuan Summers some minutes!  Summers scores 12 points in 17 minutes on 4-7 shooting with 4 boards and a blocked shot.  Just check out his highlights.

  • Cavs again Sunday.

The Pistons vs. The Pacers

The 23-45 Pistons are in Indiana to take on the 22-46 Pacers tonight. Like it or not, this is a battle for Draft Lottery placement. You always root for your team to win, but in this case it wouldn’t be so bad if they did lose with the Pacers, who are little ahead of Detroit in ping pong ball status.

The biggest news is not the game, but who will be playing in it. Rodney Stuckey and Ben Wallace are Good to Go.

The Pistons vs. The Celtics

The 23-43 Pistons are in Boston tonight to take on Rasheed Wallace and the 41-24 Celtics. I realize the Pistons aren’t the team they used to be, but this particular opening sentence to the NBA.com preview of the game sort of made me mad.

“It was a rough week for the Boston Celtics. A visit from the lowly Detroit Pistons to open a brief home stretch could help them get back on track.” Via NBA.com

Lowly….really? We aren’t New Jersey just yet.

Ben Wallace is still listed as day to day and as we know Rodney has no timetable on his return.

NEED4SHEED GAME CHAT

Yes the Pistons swept the season series against the Wizards 87-101.  The real story was Will Bymum’s 20 assists on the night.

Key Points

Disclaimer – This will be a Bynum filled recap.

  • Things just started good in this one, Will had a handful of assists in what it seemed like a few minutes and Rip was on fire.
  • Regardless of the fact the Washington is not a great team, this team looked great and Will just dominated.
  • One of those pretty Rip to Tayshuan alley oops that reminded me of the good old days.  You can thank Maxi for it too!

  • Speaking of Maxiell, he seems to be back! A double-double with 10 boards, 12 points, a steal and 2 blocks.
Haven’t had that much fun at the Palace in quite a long time, thank you Will.
  • Tay and Rip both finished the game with 18 points.
  • I’m amazed every game with the amount of fans gained by Jonas Jerebko.  18 points for the Swede with 3 steal, 8 boards and a heck of a lot of swagger when Singleton got in his face.  That’s the kind of technical foul I like.  Jonas = he anti Sheed.
  • Will just looked like he had eyes in the back of his head and made a point of getting the ball to his teammates in any manner that he good.  The career high 20 assists where the most from a Detroit Piston since Isiah Thomas on April 12th 1985.
  • “That means a lot to me,” said Bynum, a Chicago native like Thomas. “I grew up watching Isiah play, and to do something that he did is huge.” Via The Detroit Free Press

  • Can’t tell you how excited the crowd was, we knew something special was going to happen as soon as he hit his previous mark of 14.  The crowd went nuts after each one…I almost lost track.
  • Even the few points Bynum did score were pretty.
  • When will was at 18 the bench never sat down and when he kept feeding DaJuan Summers and he was missing it we all could feel the pain.
  • I really didn’t think he was going to pull off 20, but Ben Gordon finally made Pistons fans smile when he knocked down the last shot.  Here is the last play of the game, Will’s 20th assist.

  • A meaningless game just turned into something special for Will and a whole lot of Pistons fans. Something tells me if you leave Will a message in the comments, he might just see it.
