The 19-28 #Pistons are in Orlando to take on the 13-37 Magic Wednesday night. The Pistons who are 1-1 against the Magic this season have lost four of the last six games on the road in Orlando, but won the last one at the Palace with ease.

The good: Detroit, despite the loss to Miami, has been playing well as a team and individually.  Brandon Jennings, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond have all put in great performances in the past three games for Detroit.
The bad: The Magic will have center Nikola Vucevic back.  He missed the last meeting at the Palace. Vucevic did a number on Detroit in their first meeting this season putting up a double-double, with 20 points and 10 boards.
This battle of the underachievers  (Orlando and Detroit) was supposed to be nationally televised, but considering the way both of these teams have been playing it was nixed for a different game.
The unknown: Can Andre Drummond contain Vucevic? Can Jennings keep up his feverish pace? Will Detroit glide to victory or fumble in Florida?
Pistons: Josh Harrellson (knee) is questionable.
Magic: Jameer Nelson – sore left knee is listed as day-to-day.

Stat: Andre Drummond recorded his first career 20-point, 20-rebound game with 21 points and a career-high 20 rebound vs.New Orleans (1/24). Drummond became the first piston with a 20-20 game since Antonio McDyess vs. New York (3/11/09).
Stat: Arron Afflalo is averaging 18.5 points against the Pistons this season.
Stat: Brandon Jennings is averaging 20.5 points against Orlando this season.

Tip off is at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

The Pistons snapped their four game losing streak with a 103-87 win over the Orlando Magic at The Palace of Auburn Hills.  Detroit held the Magic to less than 100 points, something they haven’t been able to do in quite some time. Detroit has given up over 100 points in 19 of their last 25 games.

Key Points:

  • Despite not hitting his first few shots, Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 20 points on 7-of-19 shooting with eight assists and three steals. Jennings is scoring the bulk of Detroit’s points on many nights so it’s nice to see his turn over ratio go down since he’s handling the ball for most of the time he’s out there.

Andre DrummondAndre Drummond: “Last game was a tough game. I didn’t play to my ability. Everybody is entitled to have an off night. I had to come out and play with a lot more energy than I had the night before.” Via

  • Detroit was in the driver’s seat most of the night, but it was a 9-0 run in the third quarter to make it 70-55 that took all the life out of Orlando.
  • Andre Drummond with his 33rd double-double of the season. Dre scored 13 with 17 boards and two blocked shots in 32 minutes on the floor. Andre made up for his sub-par game against the Mavericks by playing like a beast from the tip-off. He just about had his double-double before the half.

  • Great Stat – Drummond’s 12.7 rebounding average is No. 1 in NBA history for a player 20 years old or younger.
  • Caldwell-Pope didn’t do much offensively, but he sure did a nice job on the defensive end against former Piston Arron Afflalo who put up 14 for Orlando.
  • It was nice to see Josh Harrellson get some time early. He made the most of it knocking down a three and grabbing eight boards in 18 minutes.
  • Gigi had some garbage minutes scoring two points on two shots. Was I the only one that had high hopes for him?
  • Maybe Josh Smith is reading his shot selection stat and the fact that he’s one of the worst shooters in the league. Smith scored 16 on 8-of-12 shooting, with much better shot selection.

  • I got a change to use the Pistons app on my phone to upgrade my seats yesterday. And sure enough scored some prime court-side. Thanks @ThePalace !

bynumWill Bynum: “There’s a lot of bad things roaming in the air, a lot of negative energy, so we’re just happy to get a win.”

  • Props to Rodney Stuckey who put up 13 while surpassing the 6000 career point mark.
  • Singler with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting with four boards and a blocked shot.
  • It’s been quite some time since I’ve seen this team with the fire they showed from start to finish. Think Cheeks knows he’s on the hot seat?
  • A quick turnaround with a game Wednesday night in Atlanta.

The 17-27 #Pistons will host the 12-33 Orlando Magic Tuesday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Magic have won seven of the last ten matchups at home, but have dropped 13 of the last 17 at Detroit. Detroit on the other hand is an abysmal 7-15 at home.

The good: Ex Piston Arron Afflalo, who having a career year. Afflalo led the Magic with 23 points against the Pistons on 12/27.
Andre Drummond won’t have to deal with Vučević, who had an outstanding game against Dre the last time these two teams met.
The bad: The four game losing streak is getting old fast.  Detroit’s defense has been terrible as well as their outside shooting.  The Pistons are still the NBA’s worst 3-point shooting team at 30.7 percent, and 52.9 percent of Detroit’s baskets come off assists for one of the NBA’s lowest marks.

cheeksMaurice Cheeks “We can get a lot better guarding the ball and that’s one thing we have to do because it puts so much pressure on our big guys,”

Brandon Jennings likes the ball in his hands. He is among the NBA leaders with an average of 7.3 minutes of possession.

Josh Smith’s is terrible at shooting.
The unknown: Can Detroit finally win one at home?  Will I brave the cold and head out to a game that may put me in a turrrrable mood?
Injuries: Pistons: None
Ronnie Price – Out
Nikola Vučević – Out

Stat: Andre Drummond recorded his first career 20-point, 20-rebound game with 21 points and a career-high 20 rebound vs.New Orleans (1/24). Drummond became the first piston with a 20-20 game since Antonio McDyess vs. New York (3/11/09).
Stat: Orlando is 39-51 all-time vs. Detroit (26-19 at home, 13-32 on the road).
Stat: Detroit has won 13 of the last 17 home games against Orlando.

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

If you’re a Pistons fan and you missed the Pistons at the Magic be thankful that you got a late holiday gift.  Orlando trounced Detroit leading the Pistons by as much as 22 point in their 109-92 win.

Key Points:

  • The Magic had not won on their own court in a month before Friday night.
  • The dynamic duo of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond didn’t bring their games to Disney World.  Greg scored six with six boards, while Andre squeaked in another double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.
  • Gigi Datome with 21 minutes on the floor shot just 1-of-6.
  • Josh Smith 2-for-13 for five points.
  • A big zero for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who played 24 minutes.
  • Despite how bad it looked and sounded, Detroit did make a run in the third quarter to get within seven. It was too bad that terrible ball handling and shot selection took them right out of it.
  • Another game where Detroit makes a struggling sub-par team look like All-Stars (exception Arron Afflalo).
  • Detroit, who lead the league in points in the paint were outscored by the Magic 58-48.
  • Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 21 points and eight assists.

jenningsBrandon Jennings: “At this point right now, we need every win we can get, we don’t want to keep letting games like this slip.”

  • Jonas Jerebko and Josh Harrellson were the only two Pistons in the plus category for the game.  Josh scored nine points and six boards, while Jonas scored eight in 13 minutes.
  • Rodney Stuckey looks to have re-injured his shoulder.
  • Will Bynum with 18 points in 19:55 on the floor.

  • I’m ready to wash this one away in hopes of a Wizards win Saturday night.

The 14-16 #Pistons are Orlando to take on the 8-20 Magic Friday night. The Pistons, who have been better on the road than they are at home, have a good chance for a win against the Magic in their first game back after the holiday break . Detroit has won seven of eight away from home, with their only loss being in overtime at New Orleans.

The good: Our old friend Arron Afflalo is playing the best basketball of his career right now. The former Piston is on track for an All-Star birth averaging 21.9 points per game this season, while shooting 47 percent from the field. He is also averaging career-highs in rebounds and assists.
The Magic are 0-17 when allowing at least 97 points and the Pistons have reached triple digits in each of their last seven road wins.
The bad: Detroit has lost three of the last five games on the road to Orlando and split the season series with the Magic last season 2-2.
The unknown:  Magic Center Nikola Vucevic is having a nice year and is behind Andre Drummond in several of the league leading stats for the center position.  Will Andre dominate the match-up?
Injury Report: None.

Fact: Former Detroit Piston Jason Maxiell will face his former team for the first time.
Fact: In 2007 Arron Afflalo he became the first Pistons rookie to start the season opener since Grant Hill in the 1994-1995 season.
Fact: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 62.2%.

Tip off is at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

The 16-27 #Pistons are in Orlando to take on the 14-28 Magic Sunday evening.

  • The good: Orlando, who are currently in the midst of a four game losing streak, are not playing good basketball. The Magic have lost nine of their last 10 game at home.
  • The bad: Despite the Magic’s woes of late, they seem to be able to take it to Detroit, especially after the pummeling they took Tuesday night at the Palace.
  • The unknown: Did it really take Lawrence Frank this long to figure out that the pairing of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond was a good thing?

Tip off is at 6:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports PLUS . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

Head out to The Palace next week and get tickets directly from the Pistons with NO FEES

The #Pistons took down the Orlando Magic Tuesday night in commanding fashion 90-105. It looked like this would be a battle to the end, with the game close up until the half, but Detroit’s defense held the Magic to just 14 third quarter points allowing the Pistons to build a sizable lead and never look back.

Key Points:

  • The tandem of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond put on the gas to help Detroit dominate the second half.
  • Brandon Knight stepped up his game leading Detroit with 18 points on 7-of-17 shooting with four boards, five assists, three steals and four turnovers. He may not be the Pistons best point guard, but at least his defensive game is getting better.
  • Only the pesky JJ Redick gave the Pistons problems leading all scorers with 26.
  • Jameer Nelson make 2 of this 10 three point attempts. If he was on the Pistons and jacked up 10 three’s he’d probably be sitting where Jonas is.
  • The Pistons were dunking away Tuesday night. Brandon Night put up another decisive dunk, as well as did Andre, but it was the Will Bynum alley-oop to Rodney Stuckey that really was amazing.

  • Andre Drummond hands are amazing, he finishes at the rim with power and touch. He put up another double-double with 11 points, 11 boards, two blocks, and two steals. I think he deserves an A.
  • Again…why isn’t Dre starting? “Andre Drummond came into the game with 3:22 left in the first quarter and the Pistons trailing 22-11. They immediately went on a 12-0 run and finished the quarter leading 26-25.” Via
  • Maxiell also put up an 11 point, 11 board double-double adding one assist and a block in 22 minutes.

  • Will Bynum is the best PG on this team plain and simple. He knows how to get the ball to his teammates and he knows where they want it. Will finished with 15 points, four boards and six assists with just one turnover in 25 minutes on the floor. The Will Bynum to Andre Drummond alley-oop combo is getting to be a staple. Throw it up and Andre will get it…he’s like the Calvin Johnson of the Pistons.
  • His first half wasn’t much to talk about, but Greg Monroe got the Pistons going by scoring 10 quick points in the third quarter on his way to 16 on the night. Monroe added six boards in 2 assists and looked determined after the half.

  • Old friend and the Magic’s leading scorer Aaron Afflalo was held scoreless.
  • The defense is stepping up. Detroit with eight steals, five blocks and winning the board was 41-54.
  • Kim English with 2 points in his 3:36 cleanup minutes.
  • Wednesday night on the road against a surging Bulls team will not be easy.

The 15-25 #Pistons are hosting the 14-26 Orlando Magic Tuesday Night at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

  • The good: The Pistons are winners of 10 of their last 12 games.
  • The bad: Regardless of how the Magic are playing, the Pistons always seem to find a way to lose.
  • The unknown: How much better will Andre Drummond get? He’s currently ranked 9th in the league in rebounding (per 48 min) according to And look at what Greg and Andre have done per 48. Detroit is currently #3 in the league at efficiently at the Center position.

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

If you’re thinking of going to the Saturday night at the Palace, you can get tickets directly from the Pistons with NO FEES

The 2-9 #Pistons are in Orlando to take on the 3-7 Magic. The Pistons would love to get their revenge against this Magic team that stole a win from them last week at the Palace.

  • The good: The Pistons have allowed an average of 79.5 points in their two wins.
  • The bad: The Pistons have allowed 102.4 points per game in their defeats.
  • The unknown: Stuckey/Singler watch, the battle of starting SG’s.  Also keep an eye out for Andre Drummond who is getting more time on the floor each game.

Tip off is at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

SheedtasticBeing that it’s the Thanksgiving Holiday, you may not see a complete recap of this one from me, but I’ll do my best.  For those of you who celebrate, have a SHEEDTastic Thanksgiving.

Go Pistons!

Just when it looked like the #Pistons were going to get their second win of the season, the Magic did something ridiculous.  Orlando scored 48 points in the final 15 minutes of the game to win 110-106.

Key Points:

  • Clearly there was a defensive breakdown late in the game.  Something has to change in Detroit’s defensive strategy, you certainly can’t let a team like the Magic, who have an anemic offense score like that on you in so little time.  It was even more surprising after the great defensively played game Detroit put up against the Sixers.
  • Great games from both Tayshaun Prince and Greg Monroe who combined for 21 third quarter points.
  • Play 48 Minutes neon sign should take up an entire wall of the Pistons locker room.
  • Detroit  has been outscored 102-63 in their three home games this season, squandering leads to lose each time.

Angry Cartoon Lawrence FrankLawrence Frank: “I guess we need these lessons to remind us what it’s going to take to win, you score 106 points, shoot 53 percent from the field and lose the game. What is evident is that when you don’t defend, you’re going to lose, in the fourth quarter, everything is played harder, tougher, more intense and smarter. It’s evident what we need to do. We just have to continue to work at it and get better at it.”

  • The smaller team won the war of the boards, Orlando outrebounded Detroit 44-30.
  • One of the better performances from Tayshaun Prince, who I called out as a Dud this season.  I hope he makes me eat my words.  Price scored 18 with three assists and three boards, doing a great job defensivly on our old friend Arron Afflalo.

  • Andre is improving every game. I know we want to see a lot of him, but I’m happy to let him take it slow and learn. Drummond put up 10 points, with three boards and two blocked shots. Check out his block and put-back in the highlights, he’s going to be a monster.
  • I’ll take a double-double from Brandon Knight every night. Brandon with 10 points, 12 assists and 4 boards away from a triple-double. I’m GuaranSheeding that he’s going to put up a triple very soon.
  • Kyle Singler finished his second NBA start with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting, with two boards, an assist and a steal.

Kyle Singler - Pistons vs Magic

  • Rodney Stuckey off the bench with nine points on 4-for-7 shooing with an assist and a board. Let’s give Rodney the benefit of the doubt, but he was a -19 while Singler was a +17 while on the floor.
  • Congrats to Corey Maggette who grabbed his 4,000th board Friday night. Maggette may be the surprise of the season. We thought he was just a throw in to get rid of Ben Gordon, but it looks like he’ll be a real asset to the team. Corey put up seven points in 14 minutes.
  • Greg Monroe led the Pistons with 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting, with seven boards and an assist. He really is putting this team on his shoulders this season.
  • Jason Maxiell with 11 points, five boards, two steals and a blocked shot in 31 minutes. I’m fine with Max in the starting lineup.
  • PS, I still can’t stand J.J. Redick.
  • Thirteen lead changes in this one, while being tied 14 times.
  • The Magic, averaging 88 points per game, scored 66 in the second half.
  • 64 points in the paint for Detroit.
  • Detroit’s biggest lead in this one was 13.
  • Sunday night against the Celtics at the Palace.  Can they get #2?
