The 19-29 #Pistons will host the 22-25 Brooklyn Nets Friday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Pistons have won both games against the Nets this season, but since then Brooklyn’s “issues” have settled down, they are an entirely different team. The Nets will try to make it three in a row, while Detroit would like to do whatever they can to play better on their home court.

The good: The last time the Pistons played the Net they scored a season high 38 points in the second quarter. Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe continue to play well despite the Pistons’ record.
The bad: The Pistons played awful in their loss to the lottery bound Magic Wednesday night. At one point they looked like they had thrown in the towel.
Joe Johnson scored 34 in the first meeting and is averaging 23.0 points against the Pistons this season.
The unknown: Will Kyle Singler get the starting nod again? Did the Bynum – Cheeks argument get cleared up yet? Will and Cheeks got into a huge argument in the second quarter of the Pistons loss to the Magic and was benched for the rest of the game. Can Brandon Jennings bounce back shooting 5-of-23 on the night in Orlando? Can the Pistons start defending their home court even though they are having trouble defending.

Injuries:
Pistons: Josh Harrellson (knee) is questionable.
Nets: Brooke Lopez – Out.

Pistons-Nets-Stats

Stat: Andre Drummond recorded his first career 20-point, 20-rebound game with 21 points and a career-high 20 rebound vs.New Orleans (1/24). Drummond became the first piston with a 20-20 game since Antonio McDyess vs. New York (3/11/09).
Stat: The Pistons are first in the NBA for most offensive rebounds per game, averaging 14.6 per game.

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

The 10-13 #Pistons will host the 8-14 Brooklyn Nets Friday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Nets, who many picked as contenders in the East, have had multiple issues this season with injuries and coaching.

Kidd, the first year head coach butted heads with former Pistons head coach Laurence Frank and basically exiled him. Reports now surfaced of a Kidd’s tirade towards Frank in a staff meeting.

“Sit the (expletive) down! I’m the coach of this (13-letter word) team! When you’re on the bench, don’t (expletive) move,” Kidd said, according to NBA.com reporter David Aldridge. The report did not offer further details of what the 13-letter word was.

The argument ultimately led to Frank being reassigned to a reduced role which Kidd described as “doing daily reports.” Via ESPN

Despite their issues Nets have started playing well of late and are on a three game winning streak.

The good: Detroit has won 15 of the last 19 games at home against Brooklyn.
The Pistons got great games from Greg Monroe and Rodney Stuckey in their OT loss to the Pelicans. Detroit’s Bigs will have to play well on both ends of the floor with Brook Lopez averaging 24 over the last four game and Garnett and Pierce stepping up their games.
The bad:  The Pistons inability to close out games that they can clearly win. Detroit fought back in New Orleans only to fold in overtime.

Andre Drummond Cartoon QuoteAndre Drummond: It’s on Greg and I to figure it out. We can’t continue to let guys come in our paint and do those kinds of things to us. It’s a building process and we’re going to figure it out. It’s not going to happen for too long.” Via NBA.com

The unknown: Can Josh Smith finally make his mark in a Pistons uniform and show everyone why Joe Dumars brought him here?
Injury Report: Bynum is still listed as doubtful with his left adductor strain.

Stat: Andre Drummond still leads the NBA in field goal percentage with 62.4%
Fact: Brandon Jennings tied a career-high six steals at New Orleans.

The #Pistons had another case of the fourth quarter sniffles as they lost a close one to the Nets 93-90 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. With every chance to send the game into overtime or win in the final minutes Detroit just couldn’t pull off a bucket scoring just 17 points in the final quarter.

Key Points:

  • Andre Drummond played just four minutes due to his back issues. He’s not worried though, he feels he just needs a day or two to recover and he’ll be fine.

Andre Drummond“It’s not my back – it’s my tailbone,” he said. “I fell on it the wrong way in the Laker game. I just need a day or two and I’m good. I felt good. Just after I took that charge, it hit me again. It’s tough. I couldn’t be out there to help my teammates tonight. I’m just going to take care of it and I’ll be back in no time.” Via Pistons.com

  • With Andre out and Jason Maxiell in foul trouble we saw Rookie Slava Kravtsov who despite some “rookie type” fouls, played very well. Slava scored four with two boards in ten minutes on the floor. And there is nothing like dunking right on Lopez to make the Palace crowd love you.

  • Stinkers from both Stuckey and Villanueva. Stuckey was just2-of-7 for four points and Charlie was just 1-of-8 for two points.
  • Another game with a fourth quarter lead lost.
  • Odd player combinations late in the game for Detroit when Frank tried to counter the Nets going small.
  • I didn’t even realize Reggie Evans was still playing let alone putting up double-doubles.

  • Greg Monroe was the star of the night for Detroit leading the team with 23 points, 10 boards, two assists and a blocked shot. As good a game as he played I wanted to bite my own hand when he kept fumbling the ball late in the fourth when Detroit had a chance.
  • Jerebko getting solid time with the absence of Daye and Tay. He scored six points in 19 minutes on the floor on 2-of-7 shooting. You know I have a Need4Swede but it seems like he’s trying a bit too hard and doing things he would normally do. He just needs to play his game and he’ll be just fine.
  • The Palace finally got to see Jose in uniform and a glimpse of what is a great PG can do for a team. He didn’t light up the box (just yet) scoring just eight, with nine assists, but when was the last time you remember a Detroit PG not named Chauncey get close to double-digit assists a game.

  • Bynum a solid 13 points and seven assists, but he’s still got to know when to go up in a crowd and when to dish it off. When it works you wonder how he does it and when it doesn’t you scream.
  • Spurs on Friday night at the Palace to try to stop the slump.

The #Pistons lost to the Nets in double overtime 105-107 Friday night in Brooklyn.  I’ll admit that I was pretty disgusted when they were down 17 and looking like the game would be beyond a dud.  But this young Pistons team surprised me by clawing their way back and possessing a six point lead with over a minute to go in regulation.

Regardless of how they were playing, I still had the recent “Pistons” feeling that they just wouldn’t be able to hold on the game.  It’s not like they didn’t have their chances in overtime, the baskets didn’t fall.

Key Points:

  • This one upset most of us more than usual.
  • One big problem with this team is that they play brilliant at time and then moments later go through a stretch of horrible play that usually does them in.
  • Down a point with 17 seconds left in the second overtime and Greg Monroe misses two free throws. He finished with 17 points and eight boards, but I still can’t understand why I guy that big with his skills can’t finish at the rim.
  • I’m really starting to wonder what Lawrence Frank is thinking. Up at the end of the game, you need a stop and you have Drummond on the bench?

  • Drummond made an impression in his 18 minutes on the floor. He scored eight with nine boards and three blocked shots. Now why isn’t he playing beside Monroe more?
  • Kyle Singler also mad some great plays, it was his rebound of Knight’s misses shot and then make that tied the game at 105. He finished with eight points, eight boards and three assists.
  • Stuckey played well scoring 19 on 7-for-17 shooting with six boards, and three assists. I don’t know how he feels, but this teams plays better with him anchoring the bench.
  • Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 22 on 8-for-18 shooting, five boards and five assists in 47 minutes.

Brandon Knight Pistons-vs-Nets

  • Prince added a double-double with 12 points, 10 boards adding 6 assists and a steal in 44 minutes for Detroit.
  • And yes, the refs clearly missed the Nets over and back mishap, but that’s not the reason Detroit lost.
  • Tired legs for Detroit as they take on the Pacers Saturday night at the Palace.

The 7-17 #Pistons are in Brooklyn to take on the 12-9 Nets Friday night.

  • The good: The Nets have dropped four of five against the Pistons and are struggling. The Nets were on a five game skid before beating Toronto Wednesday night.
  • The bad: This is a road game, and we all know how the Pistons play away from home. It’s also the first time the Pistons will be visiting the Nets in their new home The Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
  • The unknown: Can Brook Lopez return to form and give his team a boost after recovering from a sprained foot? Can Brandon Knight hold his own against Deron Williams?

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

If you’re thinking of going to the Pistons vs. Pacers Saturday night at the Palace you can get in the door for as little as $7!

The Pistons lost their 7th game in a row to New Jersey 99-96. Detroit kept the game close, but looked just like the Pistons of late by digging themselves in a big hole after the half. This time on the play of Brandon Knight, Tayshaun Prince and some clutch makes from Walker D Russell, the Pistons tied it up at 88 with five minutes left in the ball game.

Detroit with the ball after a Jerebko got the game within two points with 41.9 seconds left, had a chance to to tie or take the lead, but Tayshaun missed 3 seconds left leaving him to foul Williams to make the score 99-96 with 1.8 left on the clock. Brandon Knight with one last chance to tie it just missed a three pointer at the buzzer with some contact from Deron Williams, making this the…that almost just happened recap.

Key Points:

  • Jason Maxiell started in place of Ben Wallace. Jason seems to play better off the bench he finished with 4 points and 4 boards in 22 minutes.
  • If that was just about any other team or a superstar, that last play would have sent Brandon Knight to the line for three foul shots. A lot of body contact from Williams.
  • This team showed heart.
  • Rodney Stuckey turned his ankle before the half and didn’t play much after that. I he wanted to go but didn’t play much after he did it.  It  could have been them wanting to rest his ankle or it could have been the fact the The Walkman was running things the right way. Stuckey finished with 7 points and 3 assists in 25 minutes.
  • Walker D Russell with a career high 12 points. This guy is staying, he knows how to run this team and is unselfish. Russell was on the court when the game was on the line and played very will. I for one am hoping he stays.
  • Mrs. Kardashian 18 points and 18 boards.
  • 48 points in the paint for Detroit.  34 for the Nets.
  • Pistons are getting torched from downtown.
  • Moose Monroe with 21 points, 8 boards and a blocked shot in 36 minutes. Close your eyes and image him with a solid big man down low to give him help.
Greg Monroe against the Nets

  • Brandon Knight was schooling Deron Williams at times. Brandon is logging the most minutes of any rookie in the league. He logged 43 in New Jersey after playing the previous two nights. Brandon with 15 points, 4 assists and 5 boards on the night. Have I mentioned I love his floater?
  • Did you get your Brandon Knight Schedule Wallpaper yet?
  • Are the Nets hording Williams’? They have Deron Williams, Shawne Williams, Sheldon Williams and Jordan Williams.
  • Nets dressed just 8 for the game.
  • Deron led all players with 26.
  • As every game goes by the more balls they have…lottery balls that is.
  • Tayshaun Prince was burning hot with 21 on a really hot 4th quarter that got the team right back in it. The last play to take the game or tie it…was kind of a mess though. Tay added 6 boards and 4 assists in 39 minutes.
  • A Daye 11 minutes and 0 points.
  • Out rebounded 44 to 31.
  • The Nets biggest lead was 12, the Pistons was just 2.
  • Yes they are bad, and yes they keep losing, but Greg, Brandon and JJ are learning on the job. Baby steps to bigger things.

  • A much needed day off for Detroit and then Vanilla Ice and the Bucks at the Palace.

The 4-19 Pistons are in New Jersey to play their last game of their back to back to back against the 7-15 Nets. The Nets, who have lost two in a row, are excited to see Detroit as they try for a fourth straight home win over the Pistons. Detroit needs to avoid a loss to save face and to avoid a season-high seventh loss in a row.

  • The good: The Nets are without MarShon Brooks (toe), Mehmet Okur (back) and DeShawn Stevenson (knee).
  • The bad: Letting the Knicks shoot a higher percentage rate than most of our IQ’s. Detroit is allowing 103.0 points per contest while opponents have shot 52.2 percent overall and 50 of 97 (51.5 percent) from beyond the arc.
  • Who to watch: Deron Williams, Anthony Morrow and Mr. Kardashian for fun.
  • The unknown: They have to show up sooner or later don’t they?

Next home game…Friday night for 90′s night. Who in their right mind doesn’t want to see Vanilla Ice. Get your exclusive ticket deals with NO FEES directly from the Pistons here and I’ll see you there.

So the Pistons finally won one even with Brook Lopez putting up a career high 39 points against the Nets.

If you weren’t at the Palace Wednesday night, you most likely didn’t get to see this rare no-televised 109-116 victory. So the Best I can give you is the recap highlights from Pistons.com.

Key Points:

  • It’s no Joke… and don’t think I’m not dropping some money down for Charity for a chance to win Darko Milicic’s Championship ring. It’s legit, for 10 dollars you can purchase 5 raffle tickets to win Darko’s Pistons 2004 Ring. I would love to win it, but I would be happy if one of you did too! I wore one once…how cool would it be it do it again?

The Ring

  • Winning Darko’s ring is probably more important than Detroit actually winning their 27th game of the season.
  • Another stellar night for Greg Monroe who dropped a 20 and 10 double-double on the Nets. For good measure he even added 2 blocks and 2 steals to the mix…boy do I love this Kid.
  • I can’t wait to see Monroe and Jonas on the same court together.
  • So Rodney Stuckey doesn’t play for 8 consecutive quarters and then dumps in 22 points with 10 assists (double-double). I want to say WTFudge…well you know, but all I can do is shake my head.
  • Someone is going to pay some cash for Chris Wilcox’s services next season. Boy he knows just when to step up his game.
  • Richard Hamilton another of coach Kuester’s besties led the Pistons with 25 points and an assist short of a double-double himself.
  • No time for McGrady, Kuester wanted to rest him after giving him more than 30 minutes the night before.
  • No Deron Williams for the Nets.
  • Oh Ben Gordon, what has become of you?

Greg Monroe: “We were having trouble with Lopez and it worked We were able to make a little run and get a little distance coming down the stretch. I would think switching the defense was the big difference. The guys kind of caught their breath sitting back in the zone a little bit and the defense started starting some offense for us, too.”

  • Should we celebrate because the Pistons matched their wins from last season?

It was a refreshing break for me, I didn’t see the game nor did I hear it, although it’s just my luck that I’m not at a game that they actually win. It’s been a long season and with all the drama, I’m happy to start fresh (if we can) next year.

If you were at the game, please let us know in the comments.

We’ll be ok…I think.

The 26-51 Pistons are home to take on the 24-53 New Jersey Nets. And guess what..you don’t have can’t to watch the game.  This one won’t be televised and maybe that’s a good thing.

The Nets have lost their last eight games at The Palace of Auburn Hills and could be without Deron Williams. The Pistons on the other hand are trying to end their four game skid

  • The good: The game won’t be televised.
  • The bad: The game won’t be televised.
  • The unknown: Stuckey or no Stuckey…that is the question.

The 17-32 Pistons will host the 15-35 New Jersey Nets Friday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Nets have lost 11 straight on the road and seven in a row at The Palace. The Pistons are on their own 5 game skid with the last lost against the Bobcats Wednesday night being extra brutal for Detroit.

The good: The Pistons have not lost at home to the Nets since March 26, 2006.
The bad: Brooke Lopez
The drama: Tayshaun says this is a wasted season…but Kuester disagrees.
The “flu” drama: Nobody knows if Rip will ever recover from this devastating illness….our prayers go out to him.

Injury update:

  • Jason Maxiell (sore back) is out.
  • Rodney Stuckey (right shoulder contusion) doubtful.
