The 14-17 #Pistons are in Washington to play the second game of a back-to-back against the 12-14 Wizards. The Pistons should have something to prove when they take the court after their disappointing loss against the Magic on Friday night.

The good: The Pistons have won the last seven games against the Wizards.
The bad: Detroit doesn’t do well on second games of back-to-backs. The last time these two teams met Trevor Ariza put up 28 points for the Wizards.
The unknown: Can Greg Monroe, and Josh Smith bounce back from their sub-par games in Orlando and help the Pistons on the offensive end against the Wizards?
Injuries: Rodney Stuckey looks like he re-aggravated his shoulder injury, but there is no word yet on whether he’ll be healthy enough to play Saturday night.

Fact: Greg Monroe scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in the home opener becoming the first Piston with double-double in a home opener since 2007.
Stat: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 61.3%.
Stat: Chauncey Billups ranks second all-time in Detroit Pistons history for most 3-point field goals made, trailing only Joe Dumars.

Tip off is at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

If you’re a Pistons fan and you missed the Pistons at the Magic be thankful that you got a late holiday gift.  Orlando trounced Detroit leading the Pistons by as much as 22 point in their 109-92 win.

Key Points:

  • The Magic had not won on their own court in a month before Friday night.
  • The dynamic duo of Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond didn’t bring their games to Disney World.  Greg scored six with six boards, while Andre squeaked in another double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.
  • Gigi Datome with 21 minutes on the floor shot just 1-of-6.
  • Josh Smith 2-for-13 for five points.
  • A big zero for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who played 24 minutes.
  • Despite how bad it looked and sounded, Detroit did make a run in the third quarter to get within seven. It was too bad that terrible ball handling and shot selection took them right out of it.
  • Another game where Detroit makes a struggling sub-par team look like All-Stars (exception Arron Afflalo).
  • Detroit, who lead the league in points in the paint were outscored by the Magic 58-48.
  • Brandon Jennings led the Pistons with 21 points and eight assists.

jenningsBrandon Jennings: “At this point right now, we need every win we can get, we don’t want to keep letting games like this slip.”

  • Jonas Jerebko and Josh Harrellson were the only two Pistons in the plus category for the game.  Josh scored nine points and six boards, while Jonas scored eight in 13 minutes.
  • Rodney Stuckey looks to have re-injured his shoulder.
  • Will Bynum with 18 points in 19:55 on the floor.

  • I’m ready to wash this one away in hopes of a Wizards win Saturday night.

The 14-16 #Pistons are Orlando to take on the 8-20 Magic Friday night. The Pistons, who have been better on the road than they are at home, have a good chance for a win against the Magic in their first game back after the holiday break . Detroit has won seven of eight away from home, with their only loss being in overtime at New Orleans.

The good: Our old friend Arron Afflalo is playing the best basketball of his career right now. The former Piston is on track for an All-Star birth averaging 21.9 points per game this season, while shooting 47 percent from the field. He is also averaging career-highs in rebounds and assists.
The Magic are 0-17 when allowing at least 97 points and the Pistons have reached triple digits in each of their last seven road wins.
The bad: Detroit has lost three of the last five games on the road to Orlando and split the season series with the Magic last season 2-2.
The unknown:  Magic Center Nikola Vucevic is having a nice year and is behind Andre Drummond in several of the league leading stats for the center position.  Will Andre dominate the match-up?
Injury Report: None.

Fact: Former Detroit Piston Jason Maxiell will face his former team for the first time.
Fact: In 2007 Arron Afflalo he became the first Pistons rookie to start the season opener since Grant Hill in the 1994-1995 season.
Fact: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 62.2%.

mitchell sivaThe Pistons announced Thursday that Tony Mitchell and Peyton Siva will be sent to their D-League affiliate in Fort Wayne.

Mitchell saw very little minutes this season, while Siva had a chance with the injuries to Chauncey Billups and Will Bynum. It’s a great chance for the pair to get some valuable playing time, especially Siva, who showed promise, but clearly wasn’t ready to run the show.

Andre Drummond is having one heck of a season, and he doesn’t care who you are as long as you’re not a Detroit Piston. Drummond had another great night against the the Cavaliers with another double-double (a league leading 21) and some spectacular dunks that silenced the Cleveland crowd.

It didn’t matter that children were getting ready for Christmas, Dre showed no mercy dunking over Santa.

Andre’s highlight reel is filling up, and helping Pistons fans to a Happy Holiday season by beating on of their most hated rivals.

Thanks Andre.

The 13-16 #Pistons are in Cleveland to take on the 10-16 Cavaliers Monday night. The Pistons will try to snap their two game losing streak by taking out the Cavs after two disappointing losses to Charlotte and Houston at The Palace.

Detroit swept the season series last season 4-0 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The good: The Pistons have won their last six meetings with the Cavaliers, winning three straight in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena.
The bad: The two very disappointing back-to-back losses at home. The Bobcats loss especially stung after the Pistons were cruising to victory going into the fourth quarter. The team that took the court against the Rockets did not look like the one that beat the Pacers or the Heat, in fact they looked like they had given up on themselves as soon as the second quarter started.
The unknown: Will Detroit hit the court with something to prove? Can Brandon Jennings continue to play well, and will he dominate a hot Kyrie Irving?
Injury Report: None.

Fact: Detroit swept the season series last season 4-0 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Fact: Detroit has a better record on the road than at the Palace so far this season.
Fact: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 61.9%.

The 13-15 #Pistons will host the 17-10 Houston Rockets for the second game of at back-to-back at the Palace of Auburn Hills Saturday night. Detroit would love to prove themselves with a win against Kevin McHale and his squad after their very disappointing loss Friday night to the Charlotte Bobcats.

The good: The transformation of Brandon Jennings the past few games controlling games, putting up numbers and holding on to the ball.
The bad: The stinker of a fourth quarter against the Bobcats Friday night.
Detroit has lost the last five games they’ve played against the Rockets.
The unknown: It’s the match-up I’ve been waiting to see all season long, Dwight Howard vs. Andre Drummond.  I’m putting my money on Andre to outwork and outplay Howard.
Injury Report: Rodney Stuckey is still suffering from a sore right shoulder and is listed as day-to-day.

Fact: Andre Drummond ranks in the top 10 of six major statistical categories among NBA centers this season.
Fact: Detroit has a better record on the road than at the Palace so far this season.
Stat: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 61.5%.

The 13-14 #Pistons will host the 12-14 Charlotte Bobcats at The Palace of Auburn Hills Friday night. Detroit looks to continue their winning ways against a Bobcats team they’ve had success against of late.

The good: The Pistons have started to play like a winning team, from beating the Pacers, to coming back against the Celtics to win. Detroit displayed poise the past few games, something that this team has lacked for the past few seasons.
Detroit has won 12 of the last 16 games against Charlotte.
The bad: Detroit can’t take the Bobcats lightly, they are one of the league’s best defensive teams allowing only 35.7 paint points and 92.7 points overall.
The unknown: Can Brandon Jennings keep up this pace? Jennings averaged 20.8 points while hitting 20 of 49 from downtown in his last eight games. He’s also
Injury Report: Rodney Stuckey is still suffering from a sore right shoulder and is listed as day-to-day.

The 12-14 #Pistons are in Boston to take on the 12-14 Celtics Wednesday night. Detroit is 1-0 against the Celtics this season and have won five of the last seven games against Boston.

Celtics Head Coach Brad Stevens thinks Detroit is one of the most talented teams in the NBA.

“I’ve always thought they were one of the most talented teams, especially in the East, they’ve got a 3-man who is playing like an All-Star in Josh Smith, who is not a normal 3-man. You’ve got a guy like (Greg) Monroe who’s a bonafide scorer, who can get the ball on either block and score, can drive it from the elbow and score, can make mid-range shots.

(They have) probably other than Dwight Howard the next most athletic center in the league in Andre Drummond. And then you’ve got perimeter guys in (Rodney) Stuckey, (Brandon) Jennings, (Chauncey) Billups, on down the line, (Will) Bynum, (Kentavious) Caldwell-Pope is playing well, that can go off. So you’ve got a lot of guys that can do a lot of things. They’re a very formidable group in my opinion.” via NBA.com

The good: Josh Smith has been playing the best basketball in a Pistons uniform the past two games, and looks like he figured out how to with this team to help them win. The last time the Pistons played Boston Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith each recorded 15 points.
The bad: Despite the Pistons being the only team that has beaten the Pacers and the Heat on their home courts, they are getting little respect around the NBA for doing it.
The unknown: Can Detroit start closing out games on a consistent basis without letting their opponents get back into games in the fourth when they have the lead?
Injury Report: None.

Fact: Josh Smith has scored 30-plus points in each of his last two games – the first Piston with back-to-back 30-pointperformances since Richard Hamilton in February 2006.
Stat: Andre Drummond now ranks second in the NBA in field goal percentage with 61.8%.
Fact:Andre Drummond ranks first in the Eastern Conference in double-doubles and third in the NBA with 18 double-doubles.

Chris Anderson Tattoo Miami vs DetroitThere is a whole culture around NBA tattoos, players have gone from almost none, to walking statements of themselves.

Some even go overboard.

It’s almost hard to find a player in the NBA now that doesn’t have at least one.

While watching the Pistons beat the Pacers Monday night, I picked up on something I hadn’t really noticed before.

Josh Smith had just picked up a technical foul and was sent to the bench. As he was sitting down the cameraman got a close up of him, and there it was staring me in the face.
Who it was was a totally different story.

Who the hell is that on Josh Smith’s arm?

At first glance to me it looked like the 1970′s version of the Motor City’s own Bob Seger.Bob Seger

So I took to twitter to ask what everyone thought and I got some valuable responses.

David Crosby?

Grizzly Adams?

Or Jesus?
Jesus with a Basketball

I found this picture of Josh on the interwebs when he was a Hawk that shows the whole tattoo, but it still isn’t really clear.  Your guess is as good as mine, but it’s really starting to look like a 70′s Jesus with a basketball scepter.

I wish Josh was like Rasheed Wallace, who explains his. Take a look at this oldie but goodie from a Nike Commercial.

Someone “in the know” needs to tell us who that is. I’m reaching out to all Pistons fans, players and Pistons employees who drop in on the site from time to time to tell us what that is.

And if Josh wants to tell us himself that’s fine…we’re just curious.

Who do you think it is?
