The 7-10 #Pistons are in Miami to take on the 14-3 Heat Tuesday night. The Pistons who are coming off a decisive win over the Sixers will have their hands full against a Heat team that is on a 11 game winning streak.

  • The good: Andre Drummond is all anyone is talking about when the Pistons are brought up after his record-breaking night on Sunday when he recorded career-highs in points with 31, rebounds with 19 and steals with 6. Detroit went 1-2 against the Heat last season.
  • The bad: The Heat are leading the league in field goal percentage with 51.3%. The Heat have won seven of the past eight meetings at home by an average of 12.0 points against Detroit.
  • The unknown:  Chauncey Billups is still listed as day-to-day and Will Bynum is doubtful. If the Pistons big men have big games Detroit will have a chance to knock of the Heat.

Stat:Andre Drummond still leads the NBA in field goal percentage with 65.2%
Stat: Rodney Stuckey leads the Eastern Conference in bench scoring, averaging 16.9 off the bench.
Fact: Greg Monroe averaged 20.0 points and 11.3 rebounds against the Heat last season.

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports as well as NBA TV . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 The Ticket.

Don’t forget to watch the Pistons Summer league games starting Sunday.  It’s your first chance to see Detroit’s new draft picks in action.  All games will be broadcast on NBATV.

Summer LEagueI am, but unfortunately due to the times of the games, I’m relying on my trusty Tivo or the occasional 4AM rebroadcast.

What I’ve gleaned from watching just two games so far, since I’m going to tackle the Oklahoma City 83-64 loss that happened Wednesday afternoon.

  • Andre  Drummond is everything we think he is and hopefully more. The big guy is a project, but after I saw how easy he makes it look to block a shot I was sold. You can see why they say he needs to put forth a little (or a lot) more effort when you watch him sauntering down the court. When he learns how to hustle on every play…watch out.His free throws however are something to behold. I can probably hit more than him and I haven’t shot a regulation free throw since I was in the ninth grade.
  • Kyle Singler will be a very serviceable player for the Pistons.
  • Austin Day will probably forever be hot or very, very cold. I’m not giving him a pass for putting up 24 points in a summer league game, but I’m pulling for him for two reasons. He’s go a nice shot when he’s on, and if he plays well he might actually be able to be worth something in a trade.
  • Yancy Gates was a surprise.
  • Khris Middleton hasn’t shown much of anything yet.
  • I might be really sold on Kim English who’s got a sweet shot, and scored 18 against the Jazz in his first game.

Wins or losses, this part of the rebuilding is going to be fun. I’m excited to see the team play this year as well as the new renovations at The Palace.

Detroit would love to get a win after the awful loss to The Spurs in Grand Rapids Tuesday night. Chauncey Billups, who didn’t play Tuesday, is likely to be on the court running the offense for the Pistons when they take on The Mavs.  Walter Herrmann (ribs) is still questionable.

There will be a Pistons season preview on NBATV at 7pm, with the ball tip at 7:30 pm at The Palace. This one won’t be televised locally, but you are golden if you have NBATV.  You can catch the radio broadcast on WDFN 1130 AM The Fan with the live stream at NBA.com.

A quick thanks to my boy Matt Dery for shouting me and Need4Sheed out on 1130 today, it was quite a nice surprise on the drive home from work.

Need4Sheed League Pass
After getting to know a ton of Need4Sheed readers I know that many of you live outside the Detroit metro area and aren’t able to catch all of the Pistons action. That’s why I was excited when Direct TV offered Need4Sheed readers a break on the price of NBA League pass. Not only can you catch all the Pistons games (and even a bit of Blaha), you can watch every game in the NBA every night.

I must admit Pistons fans in Detroit are spoiled, but being able to enjoy any NBA game you want is a treat. My favorite part of League pass is the added bonus of getting NBA TV.
