I have been through a lot as a Pistons fan, the good, the great, the heartache and championships.  I watched Isiah do his thing, Rodman grow and change before my eyes, Lanier and Tripuka come and go and Dumars play and build his way into the hall of fame.  I suffered through the teal years, and did my best to enjoy whatever I could from the team that belongs to my hometown.

I may complain about how bad things are right now, but I’ll stand by them through the tough times that they are going through, as I always do.  That’s what a fan does, they moan an groan  until they are lucky enough to watch their team rise back to the glory days.  And even if they don’t, they will still be there to watch and hope and enjoy.

Now here comes the rest…

I was ashamed last night at the Palace of Auburn Hills for the first time in my life.  It wasn’t the same felling of heartache when I watched LeBron take away a game five before my eyes, or when Horry hit that three that still haunts.  This time the state of Michigan disappointed me to a point that I never thought I would get to…ever.

I usually avoid the Palace when the Lakers come to town, for my own sanity, but when your good friend tells you they have an extra ticket to the game and they want you to be there how do you say no?   I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant, but I didn’t mind.  I was going to be with friends and root for my team.

It started just as I imagined it would as I waited in the West Atrium of the Palace for my friends to arrive.  A sea of Lakers Kobe fans entered the building.  I knew it was going to be a long hard night.   I dissected every single person as they came into the building as my anger grew.   Calm down, I thought to myself, but it didn’t work.  As soon as I saw the 6 year old with a Kobe jersey that was so big on him that it looked like a night shirt my anger turned into rage.

But what set me over the edge, before I ever got to my seat was the Limo that pulled up and out came about twelve 16-20 year olds all in Kobe jerseys.  No Lakers apparel, Kobe apparel.

It didn’t help that my seats just so happened to be in Kobe Ville either.

I’ll spare you the specific details, what I will do is go into a rant.

  • If you are born in the state of California you have every right to be a Lakers fan.
  • If you are transplanted to California and you came from a place that had no other NBA team, by all means be a Lakers fan.
  • If you live in a state or a country and you need a team to root for…fine, you can be a Lakers Kobe fan.

BUT IF YOU COME FROM THE GREAT STATE OF MICHIGAN born or transplanted, don’t you dare come to the Palace donning anything purple or yellow when you have one of the best and toughest NBA teams to root for in your backyard.

SHAME ON YOU…ALL OF YOU!

You can love Kobe, he’s one of the greatest, (I personally can’t stand him) but shame on you for rooting for a team from across the country in your hometown.

I was ashamed….ashamed of you.

Had it not been for some good friends and the fact that the good people over at the Palace of Auburn Hills don’t play when it comes to lifetime bans, you may have seen me on the news last night.

Lakers fans drowning out Pistons fans in applause.  A Kobe MVP chant in my house, that’s appalling. Do you even understand what you are doing or who you are rooting for?  What’s wrong with you people.

Do you not know the history of this Pistons team?  Do you not know that the Lakers our the Pistons rivals?  Do you understand we are supposed to hate them an everything they stand for?  Do you know what the Bad Boys had to endure to get those first two Championships and who the 2004 Pistons beat to get the third?

I’m not gearing this rant towards my readers, you are the true fans.  The people I’m talking about know who they are, and if they end up reading this…I hope one day an angry Bill Laimbeer comes to visit you.

If you know one of those people, please send this rant their way, for the good of all Pistons fans.

I don’t know why people actually want to have me on their shows,  I do nothing but harrass, degrade and cause trouble.  You would think Dave and JP of The Palace/Garden would have learned their lesson the last time they asked me to join them on their podcast, but I’m sure they feel different now.

Head over to the Palace/Garden to listen to the podcast, where we talk about the Pistons issues, their strengths, their weaknesses, a little Charlie V and my inside connections at the Palace.  Dave and JP probably won’t way this, but I sure had fun on their show.

Need4Sheed InterviewThere is no better way to kick off the Pistons season than having Chris Iott of Booth Newspapers and Mlive.com join me for an interview on the Need4Sheed podcast.

Chris gave me some exciting nuggets about the team and what he thinks of the upcoming season.  We talked, T-Mac, Daye, Charlie V, Stuckey, Ben Wallace and expectations.  Most surprising…who he says has the “sweetest shot” on the team.

Take a listen to the podcast, but most of all start following Chris over on Twitter, he’s always quick with the lowdown on the team.

Need4Sheed InterviewNo Need4Sheed to be playing in a basketball game for me to co-host the Celtics Late Night Show.

I was supposed to do the post-game Pistons/Celtics show, but we ran into technical difficulties.  So Nick and the gang were nice enough to ask me back to give them a hard time for 2 solid hours of Pistons-Celtics mayhem.

I don’t know why they keep subjecting themselves to my Pistons nonsense, but this is your chance to talk live with Nick and I and the rest of the gang at Celtics Late Night Show about all things Pistons, Celtics,  the rivalry, the green hate, Larry Bird’s mustache, Rasheed’s allergies to the paint or whatever your heart desires.

We will be taking your calls all night long and giving away PRIZES,  so be sure to tune in and call in. I’m personally going through my stash to see what I can give to the listeners.

If you want to know what’s in store, just listen to this little teaser from the last couple of times I took over their show.

I will co-hosting this one live with guys from Celtics Late Night Show this Monday, March 29th starting at 9:00 pm to 11 pm.

That means you need to give us a Call. Let’s take this show over, if you don’t call I may to get Will Bynum to dunk on you.

The Pistons dropped another game, and with it another season series.  The Bulls swept the Pistons for the first time in 14 seasons, while handing them their 8th loss in a row.

The final score 110-103.

Key Points:

  • How long has Flip Murray been with the Bulls?  Long enough to put up 23 points on his former team.
  • The Bulls went on a 31-11 run to take a 64-44 halftime lead. You need to score big numbers, just play the Pistons, apposing teams are averaging 110 points against.
  • The Bulls lead by as much as 21, the Pistons scored the first 5 points, which was their biggest lead of the game.
  • I’m sure the Pistons would love to have Ben Wallace back, their really is no D in the D without him.
  • Couldn’t pull it out despite a game high 29 points from Rip Hamilton.  Rip was 10-for-20 with 5 assists, a steal and one board in 34 minutes on the floor.
  • DaJuan Summers gets 5 minutes on the court lat in the game and scores a quick 7 points and almost gets Detroit back in the game.  I’ll take more Summers time please.  He’s athletic, has quick feet and can knock down the tree.
  • Rodney Stuckey is really playing well off the bench.  Stuck scored 20 points in 26 minutes with 3 boards and three assists.  He rolled his ankle in the third quarter and it looked like he wouldn’t return, but he got a magic tape up from Arnie and just kept on scoring.

Rodney StuckeyPhoto/Getty Images

  • Charlie Villanueva …..pathetic. He played just 4 minutes and the only shots he took didn’t even come close to the rim. You might want to go with that whole side of barn analogy.
  • Ben Gordon par for the course, 1-for-5 on the night for 3 points. When Kwame Brown scores just as many points as you….you have problems.
  • Another nice showing from Austin Day, he’s got to help grab boards, but he does know how to score.
  • A Tay inbound pass right to Austin Day for the easy lay in, was not only nice but scared the Bulls into a time out when the game clock was winding down.
  • Prince with 13 points, 6 assists a steal and 3 boards.  He’s really looked good and he’s handling the ball well.  It’s too bad his performances haven’t translated into wins.
  • Maxiell is still doing his best to fill in for Ben.  Jason scored 4 with 10 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocks. He’s all we  have on the defensive end right now.
  • Solid stat line again from Jonas Jerebko,  who had one of the nicest jump hooks I have seen from a Piston in quite some time.  JJ finished with 12 points, 5 boards and an assist in 37 minutes on the floor (the most of any Pistons player).   I love the fact that the fans have embraced him, but can someone tell me what the relevance of the “Eagle” is?  The two young men that I see at almost every game that dress up and have Swedish Eagle signs really makes me think.
  • Jokim Noah drives me nuts…does he always have to try to look goofy?  The Bulls had their black uniforms on with the black shoes and black socks.  Noah just had to have the white shoes on to make himself stand out while looking like an out of place 6th grader.

  • At least they fought back in the second half, right?
  • Don’t forget I’m expecting your calls Monday night when I co-host the Celtics Late Night Show from 9 to 11 pm. This is your chance to get all your green hate out. We’ll be taking your calls all throughout the show so I’m expecting Pistons fans to outnumber the Celtics fans. We have to complain to someone don’t we?

Need4Sheed InterviewI was lucky enough to score an interview with someone who I have been reading since I used to actually hold a newspaper in my hand and turn the pages. Dana Gauruder has been giving us the Pistons inside scoop for 10 years and he was kind enough to let me bombard him with questions that Pistons fans need the answers to.

Dana always gives tells it like it is, so make sure you keep up with this Pistons recaps over at NBA.com and follow him on Twitter @dgauruder. Thanks again to Dana for taking the time out for us. He went so far as to get a haircut for the occasion, even though we did the interview by phone. Now that’s what you call class.

The Pistons vs. The Celtics

The 23-43 Pistons are in Boston tonight to take on Rasheed Wallace and the 41-24 Celtics. I realize the Pistons aren’t the team they used to be, but this particular opening sentence to the NBA.com preview of the game sort of made me mad.

“It was a rough week for the Boston Celtics. A visit from the lowly Detroit Pistons to open a brief home stretch could help them get back on track.” Via NBA.com

Lowly….really? We aren’t New Jersey just yet.

Ben Wallace is still listed as day to day and as we know Rodney has no timetable on his return.

UPDATE

We had to Cancel Celtics Late Night Show tonight.  Sorry I won’t be able to take your calls after the game but I am sure we’ll do it again soon.

NEED4SHEED GAME CHAT

Need4Sheed InterviewThe Pistons will be in Boston for the first time this season to play the Celtics and observe Rasheed in his natural habitat. What does that mean for Pistons fans? A lot of green, a lot of red, blue and white, the possibility of seeing Brian Scalabrine’s transparent mug pretending like he can play basketball, the possibility of Big Baby being a big baby and me co-hosting Celtics Late Night Show post game.

I don’t know why they keep subjecting themselves to my Pistons nonsense, but this is your chance to talk live with Nick and I about the game, the rivalry, the green hate, Larry Bird’s mustache, Rasheed’s allergies to the paint or whatever your heart desires.

I will co-hosting this one  live with Nick from North Station Sports immediately following the game.  So head on over and pick up the phone and call in.  I want to hear from my fellow Pistons fans.

That means you need to give us a Call.  Let’s take this show over, if you don’t call I may to get Will Bynum to dunk on you.

The 21-38 Detroit Pistons will be hosting The 36-21 Boston Celtics tonight at the Palace.  Set another Sheed return aside, the Pistons are hosting something bigger than a ball game tonight. The Pistons Care Telethon is in progress and set to feed a lot of hungry people in Michigan. If you can help, even if it’s only a dollar, please do.

On a personal note, I’ll will be a guest of Celtics Late Night, after the game to give them my take on the Detroit side of things, as well as a lot of good natured (not really) ribbing about all things I hate that are green.

The Show starts at 11:00, and as soon as I get back from the game I will be joining the show Live.  If you are so inclined, please call in so I can chat with my fellow Pistons fans.  Let’s show the Celtics fans we mean business.

And to make things…better (or maybe worse) I spotted Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen last night when I was having dinner and  gave them both the evil Pistons StinkEYE. Does that GuaranSWEDE a Pistons win? Not sure it does, but it sure made me feel good.
