Need4Sheed InterviewI was lucky enough to score an interview with someone who I have been reading since I used to actually hold a newspaper in my hand and turn the pages. Dana Gauruder has been giving us the Pistons inside scoop for 10 years and he was kind enough to let me bombard him with questions that Pistons fans need the answers to.

Special Need4Sheed Podcast – Interview with Dana Gauruder Pistons Beat Writer

Download the Podcast

Dana always gives tells it like it is, so make sure you keep up with this Pistons recaps over at NBA.com and follow him on Twitter @dgauruder. Thanks again to Dana for taking the time out for us. He went so far as to get a haircut for the occasion, even though we did the interview by phone. Now that’s what you call class.

Yes the Pistons swept the season series against the Wizards 87-101.  The real story was Will Bymum’s 20 assists on the night.

Key Points

Disclaimer – This will be a Bynum filled recap.

  • Things just started good in this one, Will had a handful of assists in what it seemed like a few minutes and Rip was on fire.
  • Regardless of the fact the Washington is not a great team, this team looked great and Will just dominated.
  • One of those pretty Rip to Tayshuan alley oops that reminded me of the good old days.  You can thank Maxi for it too!

  • Speaking of Maxiell, he seems to be back! A double-double with 10 boards, 12 points, a steal and 2 blocks.
Haven’t had that much fun at the Palace in quite a long time, thank you Will.
  • Tay and Rip both finished the game with 18 points.
  • I’m amazed every game with the amount of fans gained by Jonas Jerebko.  18 points for the Swede with 3 steal, 8 boards and a heck of a lot of swagger when Singleton got in his face.  That’s the kind of technical foul I like.  Jonas = he anti Sheed.
  • Will just looked like he had eyes in the back of his head and made a point of getting the ball to his teammates in any manner that he good.  The career high 20 assists where the most from a Detroit Piston since Isiah Thomas on April 12th 1985.
  • “That means a lot to me,” said Bynum, a Chicago native like Thomas. “I grew up watching Isiah play, and to do something that he did is huge.” Via The Detroit Free Press

  • Can’t tell you how excited the crowd was, we knew something special was going to happen as soon as he hit his previous mark of 14.  The crowd went nuts after each one…I almost lost track.
  • Even the few points Bynum did score were pretty.
  • When will was at 18 the bench never sat down and when he kept feeding DaJuan Summers and he was missing it we all could feel the pain.
  • I really didn’t think he was going to pull off 20, but Ben Gordon finally made Pistons fans smile when he knocked down the last shot.  Here is the last play of the game, Will’s 20th assist.

  • Love how Maxiell handed him the game ball.

  • At the end of the first quarter, I thought I had a chance to get Kevin Porter’s (team) record of 25, but I don’t think the coach and I had the same mindset,” Via The Detroit Free
  • A meaningless game just turned into something special for Will and a whole lot of Pistons fans. Something tells me if you leave Will a message in the comments, he might just see it.

Need4Sheed Interview Natalie SittoWith the Pistons losing streak behind us, Jim Kushlan, Don Zellers and “Shaggy” Matt Culbreath were nice enough to ask me back on their show again to talk Pistons.

If your in the Toledo area you can check out the show Sunday nights on News Talk 1370 WSPD. The Benchwarmers cover our the Pistons, Tigers, Lions, as well as Ohio based teams. The Benchwarmers is what you get when you put a Pistons fan and a Cavs fan on the same radio show.

Listen to the Interview

Jakob TöRnell, who works in PR for The Swedish Basketball Federation visited Jonas in December to interview him. With all the press Jonas has been getting in Detroit, the man is a Rock Star Sweden.

In Arnie We Trust - Arnie KandorIt’s not shocking that we have a Need4Swede, and that they have an even bigger appreciation for Jonas in his home country.

What surprises me is that Arie Kandor’s Magic knows no boundaries.

Need4Sheed InterviewWith Rasheed Wallace returning to Detroit in just a few days, Boston fans are a bit curious to see how this Pistons fan feels about Sheed and the current state of The Pistons.  So (unfortunately for them) Celtics Late Night Show was kind enough to ask me to be their guest tonight.

Now I don’t know why Celtics fans feel the need to take a few jabs from this extremely NON Celtics fan, but they do.

I will be on live with Nick from North Station Sports, along with Brandon and Travis, from Hardwood Houdini at 11:00 PM Sunday the 10th.

Cant we all just get along? Sometimes we can …. but most of the time I get in the way of that.Celtics Live Late Night

If you can’t listen live, no worries the show is available at North Station Sports or at Hardwood Houdini to listen to at your leisure.

Need4Sheed InterviewTo discuss all things Knicks and Pistons before the two teams tip Tuesday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills, I was asked to be a guest on The Knicks Blog radio showThe show will be taped live Monday night at 9:00 pm EST and you can call in at 646-478-5554. Following the show, you can listen to it over at  The Knicks Blog.

I’m sure I can cause a little trouble…Tune in.

I had a great time doing the interview with Anthon, you can listen to the show in its entirety HERE.

Palace/GardenYou know I’m usually not one to do Podcasts, I have two of the best doing one for Need4Sheed, but when JP and Dave over at Palace/Garden contacted me about doing their Podcast I couldn’t resist.

See Dave is a Pistons fan and JP is a Celtics fan…hence the name Palace/Garden, and what comes out of it is two friends doing a weekly podcast about their need4sheed_alt_smallfavorite teams.  It’s just too bad JP doesn’t know any better, I’m pretty sure he was dropped on his head when he was a child.

Talking Pistons, a little Sheed, causing trouble, ripping on all things Celtics….good times.

Head over to Palace/Garden to listen to the Podcast.

The hate for Brian Scalabrine is still alive Pistons fans.

Did you ever want to know a little bit more about one of your favorite players? Well I was lucky enough to get to know a little more about one of mine.

Will Bynum was nice enough to answer some questions for Pistons fans to give us a little insight on who he is when he’s not Thrilling us at The Palace.

I just want to thank Will again for taking the time to answer some questions that he normally wouldn’t get asked in the locker room. He was not only a good sport, he wanted to make sure that Pistons fans know how much he appreciates the love he gets from all of you and that your cheers and comments serve as motivation.

If it’s possible to root for “The Thrill” more than I already do, I will after getting to know him a bit more this Summer. In addition to doing this for Need4Sheed he sent me one of the nicest email’s I have gotten in my years of doing Need4Sheed. Will is truly one of the good guys on and off the court.

Next step….I’m trying to convince him to come join all of us on Twitter so we can get to know him even more. Come on Will, you know you want to. If you need some help, I’m sure your new teammate @CV31 will give you a hand.

Before the Playoffs began Tayshaun Prince was confident that Detroit’s experience would help them in the Cavs series. I wonder how he feels after game one?

Curry on Stopping LeBron:

“Our initial pressure on the ball wasn’t good enough, so we got to do a better job of that,” Curry said. “Who’s ever on Delonte or LeBron, they got to get up the court so we don’t allow them to flow easy into their offense. Whatever we are trying to take away, we have to be more aggressive taking it away,” Curry said of James. “When we trap him, we got to aggressively trap him. When we contain him and try to make him shoot contested jumpers, we got to do that.” Via The Detroit Free Press

Sounds simple right, tell that to the guys trying to guard LeBron.

“Knuckling up,” the Piston center said. “Bottom line. There are no tricks we’re going to add. Just straighten on up.” Via The Detroit Free Press
