Stuckeys’ Back – The Pistons Aren’t

When you have a DVR it give you the luxury of starting the game when you can rather than when it starts. I couldn’t catch the start of the game so my plan was to watch the game in its entirety right when I got home. I usually can’t keep myself in the dark score wise (I just need to know), so when I opened up my Pistons Blackberry app and saw that the game was 6-21 in favor of the Pacers and it was mid first quarter I wasn’t exactly rushing home to see it. To my surprise after digging themselves a substantial hole and trailing the game by double digits for most of the game, Detroit climbed back in the game taking a 95-94 lead thanks to a huge three from DaJuan Summers with 2:51 remaining.

It didn’t matter however, the Pacers scored the next 8 points and won 102-106.

Key Points:

I don’t care what you say there is some kind of issue going on with Rip Hamilton. When I guy like Rip does his best “Kobe” impression by not looking for his shot and scoring ZERO points, something is up. Rip was 0-for-3 in 18 minutes on the floor with 1 assist, 1 steal and 3 turnovers. When he was resigned to the bench….he either looked pissed off, or he was sulking. Let’s keep our eyes on this situation.
Detroit had 7 turnover in the first quarter, but clamped down and finished the game with 13.
Limited minutes for Ben Wallace who looked good in his 24 minutes. Ben scored just one point, grabbed 7 boards, with 3 steals and an assist. How we did miss the man.
Ben Gordon scores 17 on 4-13 shooting with 7 boards, 6 assists and 2 blocked shots. Great game for Ben, but when it counted late in the fourth quarter he couldn’t knock down the shot.
Sometimes I think Gordon is still getting his check from the Bulls, not the Pistons.
If this wasn’t a statement from Rodney Stuckey than I don’t know what is. Rodney was on fire as soon as he checked into the game. Not only was it good to see him play, he didn’t look apprehensive about anything considering the circumstances. Stuckey scored 25 in 26 minutes for the Pistons with 3 assists, 3 steals and a turnover playing most all of his minutes at the 2 guard position. Stucktacular!

Detroit shot a shocking 50% from behind the long line. Only bad thing about that was Indiana shot 53%.
Jerebko with 10 points, 6 boards and 3 steals. You can count on him each game with numbers like that or better.
Best thing I can say about Charlie Villanueva is that he’s been a disappointment this season.
Nine points for Will, with 4 assist in 21 minutes.
What a miserable 3 quarters for Detroit, I was almost happy FSN didn’t broadcast this game in HD. Who wants to see all that blood?
We just bettered ourselves in the Lottery standings! The Pistons are tied with the Pacers for the fifth-worst record in the league.
Give DaJuan Summers some minutes! Summers scores 12 points in 17 minutes on 4-7 shooting with 4 boards and a blocked shot. Just check out his highlights.

Misery in the Fieldhouse

A horrible performance by the Pistons in Indiana led to Detroit being pummeled by Indiana 83-107.

It was so bad I don’t really care that Ben Gordon, who scored 26, may have gotten his shot back. Most of those points came in the second half when the Pistons seemed to have waived the white flag and 13 of them came in 4th quarter garbage time.
Not even the Jonas Jerebko Jam can put a smile on my face.

Can’t really win when your starting guards don’t have an assist on the night and you only have 10 as a team.
If you watch this mess you know…it’s not worth picking out the good when there was so much bad.
We got spanked by Indiana…deal with it.

The Pistons vs The Pacers

The 16-31 Pistons are actually in place to start a winning streak with a win tonight in Indiana against the 17-32 Pacers.

Each team has posted just three winning streaks all season – the longest being five games – and the only one each has had since Dec. 12 was a three-game run in mid-January. They’re in a virtual tie for 12th place in the Eastern Conference. Via NBA.com

Rip Hamilton, who is feeling under the weather, did participate in today’s shoot-around and is a game time decision.

The 15-26 Pistons are hosting their old playoff foes the 14-28 Indian Pacers tonight at The Palace.

Injury Report:

Ben Gordon, Tayshaun Prince and Will Bynum are all listed as questionable. No official word on their status at the moment.

Update: Tayshaun will start, Jerebko off the bench and Will Bynum is dressed.

Pistons vs. Pacers

The Pistons are in Indiana to take on the 34-45 Pacers in an important second game of a back-to-back. Detroit has three regular season games to go and the Eastern Conference playoff field has been determined. Depending on the outcome of the next games, the Pistons have a chance to finish as high as 5th place.

The Good/Bad and More

The Pacers are out of the Playoff picture.
The Pistons have lost six of its last eight away from home.
The Pacers are winners of four of their last five home games.
Detroit won the first two meetings this season over the Pacers, but lost 116-110 in overtime.
Keep an eye out for Michael Currys’ use of the starters.

Tayshaun Denied….again

Tayshaun Prince did not make the All Star Team again this year. I know we have been pushing for Tay to make the squad for years, but with everything that has been going on with the team, Prince really stood out when Detroit needed him.

He deserved a spot, but it truly would have been hard to deny Danny Granger with the year he’s been having.

Next year is Tay’s for sure. Right?

Oh and congrats to Chauncey, who made the team for the West. It’s going to be hard to root against him whatever team he’s on.

OT Letdown in Indiana

And the hits just keep on coming for Detroit. The Pistons are now on a three game losing streak after a 110-106 overtime loss to the Pacers. Detroit went into Indiana having won eight straight against the Pacers, who currently have the second worst defense in the league. Despite a 30 point performance from Stuckey and the ball in their hands multiple times at the end of regulation, the Pistons came up short.

Key Points:

Small Ball Part II: 0-for-2
DNP Jason Maxiell and Kwame Brown. I know Indiana is fast but come on.
Another loss to a team that we should beat. As of now can we say the Pistons “should” beat anyone at this point?
Another fantastic night from Rodney Stuckey that gets soured by losing a game like this. A game high 30 for Stuckey who was 12-for-20 with 9 boards, 6 assists and just one turnover. Thank goodness George Blaha is so animated when Rodney is playing, it’s the best part of watching these days.

A few Stuck HL’s.
Not a good night for Rip 4-for-13 from the floor for 9 points in 29 minutes.
Tay 4-for-12, it’s clear he is not the player he can be when he’s playing out of position.
Sheed put up a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards with a steal and a blocked shot. Yes great numbers but 3-for-11 from downtown (1-for-5 in OT)….Do we really need Rasheed to be taking 11 from beyond the arc? Stick to the post and witty banter Rasheed.
Outrebounded 48-50.
This lineup is messing with Dyess who had been one of the reasons we were winning since his return to the team.

First overtime win for Indiana all season.
Iverson 23 on 9-for-19 shooting, that’s probably one of the best shooting nights he’s had percentage-wise in quite some time. Add 7 assists to that and it’s a nice line for AI. Yes he had 4 turnovers, but I’ll take a game like this over a 30% shooting night any day.
FSN Highlights by quarter.
Friday in Oklahoma should be interesting.

Pistons vs. Pacers

Detroit is on the second game of a back-to-back tonight in Indiana. The Pistons will try to snap out of their offensive woes against the 13-25 Pacers who return home after allowing an average of more than 120 points during its five game trip. A much-needed win tonight for Detroit would make it nine straight against a Pacers team who once were Detroit’s biggest rival in the East.

Boy how things change fast.

McDyess summons his inner Tayshaun

McDyess made sure his homecoming was one to remember, especially after his standing ovation right before the tip. The Pistons organization made such a great welcome home video for McDyess that was played on the big screen before the game started that it had me, as well as other Pistons, fans teary eyed. (They didn’t broadcast the video during the game so I don’t have it. I’m told they are going to have it on Pistons.com.)

UPDATE: Here’s a video taken from the stands – thanks to altan in the comments.

Dyess didn’t disappoint in the Pistons’ 114-110 win over the Pacers.

He even recreated “the block.” It wasn’t on the most famous Pacer Reggie Miller, but it was impressive nonetheless.
