The 0-0 #Pistons will start the 2012-2013 NBA season at the Palace of Auburn Hills as they host the Houston Rockets.  It’s going to be a different Houston team than last season.  The new look Rockets just acquired 6th man of the year James Harden, from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, two first-round picks and a second-rounder.  Don’t forget that they also picked up Jeremy Lin this off season.

Don’t worry, the Pistons have a new dynamic duo to contend with in Andre Drummond and soon to be All Star Greg Monroe.

  • The good: Opening night at the Palace of Auburn Hills
  • The bad: Houston has beaten Detroit in eight of the last 10, six of the last seven and three in a row, including last season’s lone matchup in Houston.
  • The unknown: Who’s going to have a big game for the Pistons? Will Tom Gores be in the house trying to get noticed to be asked to audition  for a Dancing with the Stars?

Tip off is at 7:30 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports . If you can’t catch the game on TV, catch it on the radio over at 97.1 the Ticket.

Don’t forget your November Schedule Wallpaper featuring Greg Monroe!

The Pistons kick off the preseason Wednesday night at the Palace. That may not excite most people, but there are many Pistons fans that can’t wait to see what the future holds for their team.

I’ll admit that I’ve taken a little extra time on my summer vacation, heck I haven’t even tooned Viacheslav Kravtsov, or learned how to spell his name for that matter, but I really haven’t been this excited to watch this team in quite some time.

No, they’re not vying for championships, but there seems like there may be some magic surrounding the team again.

  • What will Kyle Singler, who’s seemed to have a very productive season in Europe bring to the team?
  • Is Andre Drummond all that we hope he’s going to be?
  • Will Brandon Knight have a breakout season?
  • Will we have a Need4Swede?
  • Can Greg Monroe make the All Star team?
  • Is Jason Maxiell going to see any time?
  • We don’t have Ben Gordon right?
  • Will Rodney Stuckey be the leader that they wanted him to be?
  • Can Austin Daye prove he should be in this league?
  • Will Kim English and Khris Middleton make the roster?
  • Can Corey Maggette still contribute?
  • Can Will still be Bynumite?
  • Will Monroe, Drummond and Kravtsov be our Big Three?
  • Will Tayshaun play the entire season for Detroit or be traded?
  • Will Ben Wallace really stay retired? The other Wallace is back with NY.
  • Will Charlie Villanueva play more minutes than me?
  • Will Tom Gores be the next contestant on Dancing with the Stars?

So many questions, and a full season for the answers.

It’s not always sexy to pay attention to NBA preseason games, but I for one love to soak things up and take a look at what’s new with the Pistons.

May the Gores be with all of us…

The Pistons take on the Raptors Wednesday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Tip off is at 7:30 and will be broadcast on FSN Detroit.

The 23-39 #Pistons are back home to play their third game in as many days against the 25-38 Minnesota Timberwolves.

  • The good: No Kevin Love and no Ricky Rubio…but bad for most Pistons fans like myself who wanted to see them play in person.
  • The bad: For the Timberwolves – With Kevin Love (concussion), Ricky Rubio (knee) and Luke Ridnour (ankle) all out, Minnesota in the midst of an 11-game losing streak. Their longest since losing 15 in a row to close 2010-11.
  • The unknown: Can the Pistons erase the bad taste that the Hawks left Wednesday night?

The #Pistons looked like they had a shot at breaking the 14 game winning streak that Chicago Bulls had over them, but a Derrick Rose three pointer with 6.4 seconds left to force overtime sealed the Pistons fate.   The Bulls were just too much for the Detroit in OT pulling away to a  100-94 victory at the Palace.

Key Points:

  • You can’t give Derrick Rose an open shot anytime let alone with the game is on the line.
  • Despite a missed free throw late in the game that could have cemented victory for Detroit, Rodney Stuckey played a fantastic game.  Stuckey with 32 points, 4 boards, 3 steals and an assist in 35 minutes from the floor.  Had it not been for Stuckey, the Pistons probably wouldn’t have come close to competing in this one.

Rodney Stuckey

  • Jason Maxiell just loves to give us a good highlight, and his thunder jam was one for the season reel.  Jason finished with 6 points and 9 boards.
  • The Pistons get baskets when their defense is working, and it led to a lot of nice buckets Sunday night.
  • Derrick Rose going 9-for-22 for 24 and the dagger.
  • The Pistons biggest lead 6 points, the Bulls 14.
  • Charlie Villanueva showing he’s got trade value with a SEASON HIGH 13 points on 6-for-15 shooting with 3 boards, a flagrant foul on Derrick Rose and a technical to follow.  The Bulls wound up shooting five free throws on that single possession, making four of them, to take a one-point lead with 4:20 remaining,  Let’s get on the phones in the off-season Joe! Look at this play NBA GM’s.

  • OMG…Damion Wilkins 2 points where highlight worthy.
  • Messy basketball from the Pistons in overtime.
  • Greg Monroe with 13 points and 8 boards.
  • 12 lead changes.
  • This team is learning to close games out…learning but not winning.
  • Way too many Bulls fans in the building.  When you hear the crowd cheering for a Kyle Korver three pointer with the game on the line, you feel like you’re being punked by Rod Serling.
  • I don’t care…I still hate the Bulls, Kyle Korver makes me ill, I still can’t believe Brian Scalabrine is still in the NBA, and I still want to rip Joakim Noah’s bun off the top of his head.
  • Good to see Rip in the building, he seems to be in the right place for himself.  Hamilton finished the game with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
  • Prince with just 4 points on the night.
  • A surprising DNP coaches decision for Jonas Jerebko.  A conspiracy theorist would think something of Jonas not playing and Charlie with minutes.
  • Despite the outcome, this was a very good game played by this Pistons team.
  • Knight with 13 points, 5 boards and 7 assists and some gutsy  shots in the face of Derrick Rose.

  • A season high 13 made free throws for Rodney Stuckey.
  • Ben Gordon a whopping nine points against his former team.  I don’t know why they don’t double team the man!
  • Next game is on Tuesday against the Cavaliers at the Palace. If you want to watch this one, you’d better head out to the Palace, this one won’t be televised.

The 22-36 #Pistons are back home to play the second game of a back to back Friday night against the 28-30 Bucks. Detroit is trying to get every win they can, while Milwaukee is doing the same in order to slide into the playoffs. The Bucks dropped two games behind the eighth-place Knicks after they lost at home Wednesday night.

  • The good: Knight had a career-high 26 points and seven assists in the Feb. 3 win over the Bucks.
  • The bad: The Pistons are 6-24 on the road.
  • Who to watch: Monta Ellis and Brandon Jennings who can light it up in a blink of and eye. Keep your eye out for Monroe and Knight who will both look to continue their success after Thursday’s game in Charlotte.
  • The unknown: Will Charlie V get some time on the floor to give it to his former team? (I couldn’t even keep a straight face typing that one)

The 21-36 #Pistons are in Charlotte to take on the 7-49 Bobcats Thursday night. The Pistons have lost their lost all three games of their current four game road trip, while the Bobcats have lost 13 games in a row.

  • The good: The Pistons have had two days to rest and think about what happened in the Sunshine state.
  • The bad: The Pistons are 6-24 on the road.
  • Who to watch: Gerald Henderson and Kemba Walker for the Bobcats and keep your eye out for Monroe and Knight, who are bound to put up big numbers soon.
  • The unknown: No status update yet on Rodney Stuckey who left the game in Orlando after hurting his knee.

The 21-34 #Pistons are in Miami Sunday evening to take on the 39-15 Heat. Detroit, winners of five of their last seven games won’t have it easy in Miami since the Heat hadn’t lost at home since Jan. 22 against Milwaukee until being beaten by the Grizzlies there Friday night.

  • The good: Rodney Stuckey seems to be completely healthy.
  • The bad: The Pistons are 6-22 on the road.
  • Who to watch: The big three…Stuckey, Monroe and Knight.
  • The unknown: Will Rodney Stuckey start this game or continue to come off the bench for Detroit.

The 20-32 #Pistons will try to continue their winning ways when they host the 12-42 Wizards Thursday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. The Wizards have won seven of their last eight visits to Detroit and nine of their last 11 overall match-ups with the Pistons.

  • The good: It looks like Rodney Stuckey is going to give it a go tonight.
  • The bad: For some odd reason the turrable Wizards like to beat the Pistons.
  • Who to watch: Greg Monroe, who won’t have to go up against JaVaile McGee and the (hopefully) healthy Rodney Stuckey
  • The unknown: Will Charlie Villanueva ever play and if not can Pistons fans split his paycheck for sticking with this team?

The 18-32 #Pistons are back home to take on the 7-42 Bobcats Saturday night at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The Bobcats, who have already been eliminated from the playoffs, need eight victories in its remaining 17 regular-season games to avoid setting the mark for the worst record in team history.

  • The good: They are playing the Bobcats.
  • The bad:The Pistons are struggling to find offense with Stuckey out.
  • Who to watch:Brandon Knight and Greg Monroe, who will both be looking to score if Stuckey and Gordon don’t return.
  • The unknown: The status of Rodney Stuckey and Ben Gordon.
