A source said Phoenix and Detroit #Pistons are among those pursuing small forward Michael Beasley. Minnesota declined to extend the former No. 2 pick a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent. Via Sports Illustrated

Not sure how I feel about this, this former #2 Draft pick has been nothing but a disappointment. It also doesn’t say much that a team like the Timberwolves has no use for him. Remember they have Darko.

UPDATE:

Per Matt Dery @deryNBA Pistons tell sources that the SI report on Beasley is incorrect and the Pistons are not targeting Michael Beasley.

LeftosaNeed4Sheed Guest Writer – Lefteris Aslanoglou – Pistons fan from Greece following his team and getting very little sleep watching games in the middle of the night: @Leftosa

In usual Pistons fashion as of lately, the Pistons manage to give up a 16 point lead and lose after a 4th quarter run by the Wolves. 85-93 was the final score.

Key Points:

  • Minessota came back from hitting less than 30% in the first half. Even so, Pistons were just 6 ahead in the half after having been up front by 16.
  • 4th quarter collapse. -sigh-
  • Pistons actually played quite well in the first half, showing hustle and getting some nice plays going, especially after all the turnovers they forced on the Wolves. Yet, just 38% from the floor.
  • Tables turned in the second half, and the Pistons started playing worse as time went by, making the same silly mistakes and turnovers they had forced in the first half. 19 turnovers to close the game.
  • There’s a difference between being more accurate, and making the most out of your accuracy. Pistons shot 46% from the arc against the Wolves’ 35%. Still, the Wolves made 8, and we made 5. In the end, they got more points out of their 3 pointers, even though they had to shoot 23 of them.
  • And that wouldn’t hurt so much, if the team that had the 3rd best FT% in the league before the game didn’t finish with just 10-21 from the stripe! That’s 48% in case you’re wondering. 48! I made the case that the Pistons needed to get to the line more since they’re so deadly from it. They just need anyone but Maxiell to get there. 2-6 from there with one of them going wide of the basket, getting him ridicule from the crowd. Stuckey wasn’t any better in that front. Only got to shoot 4 free throws, and made one of them.
  • Tayshaun Prince on a big, big night. Played over 40 minutes, finished the game with a game high 29 points on 13-23 and 3-5 from beyond the arc, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block. Big bright spot for the Pistons.

  • Prince recorded his 400th career regular season block.
  • Outrebounded 44 to 41, but it’s nice to see we’re grabbing more offensive rebounds. 14 in total, most of them from Monroe and Maxiell who had 4 each.
  • Greg Monroe, who was 5th in PER (Player Efficiency Rating) in the whole league just a few nights ago, fouled out with 13 points, 12 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals in 28 minutes.
  • Jason Maxiell seems to take from the team as much as he offers. 4 turnovers, 7 rebounds, a steal and a block in 22 minutes. Just 2 points.
  • Ben Gordon on a good scoring night, but didn’t seem to get the team going with him. Finished bottom of the team in +/- with -14, even though he had 18 points on 7-15, 3 rebounds, an assist and 2 steals while playing for most of the game.
  • Jonas had another bad night. He was nowhere to be seen. played 24 minutes, only got 1-4 to fall, finished with 2 points and 7 rebounds as well as an assist and 2 blocks. He showed good hustle in the first half, but that was just about it.
  • Brandon Knight played well, even with an unimpressive stat line. 7 points, 6 assists against 4 turnovers, 5 rebounds and a steal. Had 5 fouls though, as did Jerebko, but did play 35 minutes.
  • Stuckey didn’t show much,  finishing the night with 10 points and a nearly empty stat-line otherwise. 3 assists was the only thing in there, 4-12 from the floor.
  • Wilkins played nearly 7 minutes. And got a rebound. That’s it.
  • Daye! He played! …31 seconds. And no, he didn’t actually do anything.
  • On the Wolves front, Ricky Rubio was slow to start but filled up his stat line. The rookie sensation shows that he knows his game, with excellent court vision and great basketball IQ. Finished the night with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals. Unfortunately, you have to admit he beat Knight one every front, except for FG% (1-8 against 3-11). Also got to the line much more and made the most of it; 7 of his points came from there.
  • Kevin Love with 20 points and 17 rebounds, finishing with a game high +16. I wish it was Greg’s name on the start of that sentence, alas, no.
  • Pekovic seemed to do everything wrong. Silly fouls, moving screens. Still managed to get a +15 on 11 points, a rebound and a block, along with 2 steals.
  • Pistons need to stop giving games away when they start so well. I was smiling through the first half, but that premonition of impending doom was right.
  • I don’t want to say we’re losing for a better place in the draft. But if Joe Dumars doesn’t get fired this season, this falls right into his plan to rebuild the team around young talent, as he said in today’s interview on Pistons.com.

The 3-11 Pistons are in Minnesota to take on the 5-8 Timberwolves, who just offered their anchor Kevin Love a reported 4 year 70 million dollar contract extension.

“Last season it took the Timberwolves 23 games to record six victories but with the lowly Pistons (3-11) in town, Minnesota has a very good chance to reach that mark much sooner.”  The Pistons are “lowly” according to NBA.com and I have to agree.

  • The good:
  • Sadly, I’m more excited to see what Ricky Rubio has to offer than anything Detroit has been doing lately. Just being real.

  • The bad: Detroit! No Charlie V who didn’t make the trip and Will Bynum is still listed as day to day.
  • The unknown: Will Greg Monroe bounce back after scoring just 4 last night going up against Kevin Love? Ricky Rubio vs. Brandon Knight…who’s going to win the battle of the rookies?

The Pistons will be back in town again this weekend, and you can see them take on either Memphis or Portland for as little as 3 dollars!

Tip off is at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast on Fox Sports.  Matt Dery will be talking to Joe Dumars at 7:10 on 97.1 The Ticket, Matt doesn’t mess around, be sure to tune in and listen.

So the Pistons finally won one even with Brook Lopez putting up a career high 39 points against the Nets.

If you weren’t at the Palace Wednesday night, you most likely didn’t get to see this rare no-televised 109-116 victory. So the Best I can give you is the recap highlights from Pistons.com.

Key Points:

  • It’s no Joke… and don’t think I’m not dropping some money down for Charity for a chance to win Darko Milicic’s Championship ring. It’s legit, for 10 dollars you can purchase 5 raffle tickets to win Darko’s Pistons 2004 Ring. I would love to win it, but I would be happy if one of you did too! I wore one once…how cool would it be it do it again?

The Ring

  • Winning Darko’s ring is probably more important than Detroit actually winning their 27th game of the season.
  • Another stellar night for Greg Monroe who dropped a 20 and 10 double-double on the Nets. For good measure he even added 2 blocks and 2 steals to the mix…boy do I love this Kid.
  • I can’t wait to see Monroe and Jonas on the same court together.
  • So Rodney Stuckey doesn’t play for 8 consecutive quarters and then dumps in 22 points with 10 assists (double-double). I want to say WTFudge…well you know, but all I can do is shake my head.
  • Someone is going to pay some cash for Chris Wilcox’s services next season. Boy he knows just when to step up his game.
  • Richard Hamilton another of coach Kuester’s besties led the Pistons with 25 points and an assist short of a double-double himself.
  • No time for McGrady, Kuester wanted to rest him after giving him more than 30 minutes the night before.
  • No Deron Williams for the Nets.
  • Oh Ben Gordon, what has become of you?

Greg Monroe: “We were having trouble with Lopez and it worked We were able to make a little run and get a little distance coming down the stretch. I would think switching the defense was the big difference. The guys kind of caught their breath sitting back in the zone a little bit and the defense started starting some offense for us, too.”

  • Should we celebrate because the Pistons matched their wins from last season?

It was a refreshing break for me, I didn’t see the game nor did I hear it, although it’s just my luck that I’m not at a game that they actually win. It’s been a long season and with all the drama, I’m happy to start fresh (if we can) next year.

If you were at the game, please let us know in the comments.

We’ll be ok…I think.

Darko’s Revenge! UPDATE: When DARKO Stuffs you 7 times!

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

The 7-16 Pistons are in Minnesota to take on DARKO Kevin Love and the Timberwolves. Detroit has yet to win a road game in 6 straight tries, so a win against the 5-17 Timberwolves may just help to get the Pistons going again.

The Pistons went 2-0 vs. the Timberwolves last season.
Darko Milicic (yes that Darko) ranks second among NBA league leaders in blocks per game with 2.7 for the T-Wolves.
Michael Beasley leads Minnesota’s in scoring with 22.0 ppg average this season.

Think we can get Bill Laimbeer to take the trip back on Roundball 1 2 3 and teach this team the Bad Boy mentality?

So it may not have finished the way we would have wanted. It’s hard to watch your team go out like wounded soldiers with no fight left. It’s even harder to watch your enemy celebrate their victory in “Your House,” but you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

All good things must come to an end and this Pistons era as we know it just has. We saw the signs, we knew it was coming, it’s difficult, but we will be just fine.  Just ask any fans from “Bad Boys” era.

We watched this bunch grow in front of our eyes and accomplish things we most never thought they could. A team with a traveling point guard that never found a home until he landed in Detroit, a ‘Froed defensive menace that couldn’t knock down a free throw to save his life, a masked man who didn’t fulfill his potential until he landed in the Motor City, a skinny undersized small forward who wasn’t supposed to be an “NBA” because of his body and a “technical” big man that wore out his welcome out West.

Rasheed Wallace

Add a coach with a past, a “Memo”, someone Big and Nasty, Elden down low, a Hunter, Mike James (the non lyrical one), and the Human Victory Cigar.

With that….we got this.

Who would have thought?

Pistons Fans!

So maybe they should have won more than just one ring, does that make it any less special?

And so what if those who were left of that special bunch didn’t go out on their best foot, they still made this city proud.

We look forward to new beginnings.

And we feel for those who gave more than their heart.

Thank you Boys, you have done this city and all its fans proud, whether you get the recognition you deserve as an Easter Conference Powerhouse or not, we appreciate you.

Good Times……

  • The Pistons have a Need 4 Sheed, but he wont be back just yet.  No Texas swing for Roscoe.
  • George Blaha reflects on Mr. Davidson on the Deminski and Doyle show. (Audio)
  • 10 most hated players in the NBA
  • Mr. D did things the right way.
  • Still a little upset by this. But you have to give credit to Darko.
  • Bynum adding a spark.
  • Iverson to be reevaluated on Wednesday in Georgetown…should we start taking bets on his return? “Every day I come in here, we ask about Allen,” Curry said. “He knows that. He’s almost in a no-win situation. He doesn’t want to be the story. He doesn’t want his injury or him coming off the bench to be a distraction or anything to the team. He just wants to win, get into the playoffs and compete for a title.” Via MLive
  • Still can’t believe we lost to Memphis.
  • The Pistons are one game back of the Sixers, the standings don’t look good for Detroit right now.  Especially with a back to back in Texas Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • This is just one of the reasons why I appreciated Mr. Davidson. And that’s no Bullshit.
