In what looked like a replay of Tuesday night’s game in Los Angeles, the Motown Sound was reduced to a whisper and a 20 point deficit after three quarters, then after a furious late rally (which cut the lead to one) fell short to the Blazers in Portland 87-81. Rodney Stuckey led the team with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and, 5 assists but shot a horrible 6-21. Charlie V seemed poised to erase his nightmare performance against the Lakers but picked up 2 quick fouls in first quarter. The Pistons will have two days off before continuing the trip in Utah on Saturday night.

Key points of the game:

The Blazers led by 4 after one, then 10 at the half, before stretching it to 20 after 3.

The Pistons used all three rookies in the fourth to mount the furious comeback which included a 10-0 run and outscored Portland 31-17.

With the Blazers leading 78-77 with over a minute to go, the Pistons couldn’t secure a rebound which landed in Steve Blake’s hands. He would later in the possession hit a three to put the Blazers up 81-77, which put the Detroiters to bed.

Someone tell Rodney Stuckey that he doesn’t have to force the action for himself all the time. It’ll be nice to set table for others every now and then.

Photo/Getty Images

Pistons used a “tall ball” line-up to make the Blazers sweat this one out.

Ben Wallace had a quiet 12 rebounds.

I’m starting to come around to the thought that maybe the offense is better with Bynum on the floor.

Charlie V scored 20 points, including a huge three and layup late to cut the lead to one, despite picking up some cheap fouls early. However, he could’ve kept that turn and fade-a-way three point attempt with 10 seconds.

Hey another DaJuan Summers sighting!

The Blazers got 20 apiece from stars Brandon Roy and LeMarcus Aldridge.

Michigan Wolverines Fab Fiver Juwan Howard is still in the league?? Wow. Dude is just stealing money now. I wonder if Mike Peplowski, Orlando Woolridge, or Rafael Addison are available.

Jay-Z made a song titled: Death to Auto tune, I proposed one: Death of Small Ball.

Charlie V put up 20 with 3 boards in 16 minutes.

Photo/Getty Images

The three guard lineup of Stuckey, Ben Gordon, and Will Bynum leaves the team with defensive deficiencies.

Late in the game the team implored a full-court trap that yielded positive results.

Austin Daye made a nice contribution with his shooting and defense late.

I swear Greg Oden looks like Lebron James’ older uncle. Anyhow the future career solid starter had 6 points, 10 boards, and 3 blocks.

When’s Rip coming back?

Pistons resume action Saturday night in Utah where they haven’t won since I was a natural blond (kidding but it’s been a long time).

After a promising start, the Pistons were overwhelmed by the Champion Lakers, but put on a late rally before falling 106-93. The Pistons were led by Will Bynum’s 24 points and 6 assists, while Kobe Bryant scored 40 to help stop LA’s two-game losing streak. Detroit falls to 5-6 on the young season and head to Portland Wednesday night.

Some key points:

Despite a strained groin, Kobe takes advantage of the smaller Piston guards en route to 40 points (including an unnecessary three pointer late).

For all the people who think that the team should trade Tayshaun or Rip, don’t you think they would have made a difference tonight?

Lakers were without Pau Gasol and Luke Walton.

Ben Gordon gets up there.

Photo/Getty Images

Tayshaun made the trip. Rip talks retirement.

Did Charlie V suit up tonight? I’m just asking.

Big Ben Wallace tried his best but was outdone by LA’s low post offense.

Living in LA, I had to watch the Lakers broadcast which made me angry, so I decided to mute the television. DirecTV blacked out the Fox Sports Detroit channel during due to the local broadcast, bummer.

Lamar Odom nearly had a triple-double with triple 8’s.

Hey a Dejuan Summers sighting!

Another Bynumite night, we clearly had the Better Bynum!

Photo/Getty Images

Austin Daye looked lost, while Jonas Jerebko seemed to agitate Kobe.

Ben Gordon seemed to get frustrated so he decided to take it out on the rim with a rim rattler.

Too many turnovers in a short period of time during the second quarter led to a ridiculous Lakers rally.

While Ben Gordon was able to get off to a fast start, he was later neutralized while trying to defend Kobe.

Pistons fell behind by as much as 28 points, then coach Kue went to a line-up of Bynum, Jerebko, Summers, Kwame, and Maxiell.

Will Bynum block was nice but the rejection of the night goes to Jason Maxiell, who also got a tech for mixing it up with the other Bynum.

Despite huge games from Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum, the Pistons lost a thriller Sunday night to the Dallas Mavericks 95-90. The Pistons leading scorer Ben Gordon, had a chance to tie it up with a three pointer with just 5 seconds left on the game clock, but the attempt was just off the mark giving Dallas the win.

Key Points:

A rare game when Gordon was really off his game, Ben was just 1-for-16 from the field scoring just 5 points, 2 assists, a board and 4 turnovers. Those games are few and far between for Gordon, lets hope he bounces back quickly for the Western trip. He’s a little under the weather battling a cold right now.

“They didn’t feel good and they didn’t look good, either,” Gordon said of his jumpers. “You’ll have games like that every once in awhile. I’ve just got to bounce back.” Via NBA.com

What more can I say about Ben Wallace? The guy really is playing like he was when he was in his prime and you have to say that if it weren’t for him the Pistons would be in big trouble with Rip and Tay out of the lineup. Just like before he’s doing things that don’t always show up in the stats, but help the team immensely. Ben grabbed 10 boards, 2 assists, 3 blocked shots, 9 points and a steal.

Absolutely the best game from Rodney this season who couldn’t miss in the first half. He was dodging through the lane like a formula one driver driving in Manhattan. He didn’t care who was in the lane, he was taking it to the hoop and making it. Stuck put up 28 on 12-for-20 shooting, with 4 boards and 2 assists.

Photo/Getty Images

13 turnovers for Detroit to just 7 from Dallas. I’m not spoiling Rodney’s night but he was accountable for 5 himself.

Another DNP for Chris Wilcox.

Jason Maxiell played 13 minutes and had 2 boards and 2 points. How in the world are we in games when Ben and Charlie are the only big guys doing it? It’s probably the little things that Kwame Brown is doing.

42 points in the paint thanks to Rodney and Will.

Stuckey sat out the last 4 minutes of the game with cramps, possibly from playing 44 minutes the night before in Washington. Not before doing this all night long though.

Jonas Jerebko and Austin Day both with 5 boards and 2 assists.

Henrik Zetterberg in the house to support his fellow countryman Jerebko.

If you need a guard on your fantasy team….go pick up Rodrigue Beaubois, my goodness this kid didn’t miss. Best part about it was hearing Eli Zaret trying to pronounce his name on the broadcast.

Bynum was responsible for 8-0 Pistons run to tie the game at 78.

Will was the Spark again igniting the Pistons offense they were down. Bynum got Detroit right back in the game, something I have been repeating it seems like every day. Bynumite is clearly on track for Sixth Man of the Year. Seventeen of his 27 points came in the fourth quarter on 11-for-16 shooting on the night.

Win or lose this game was fun to watch, I am amazed each night how the guards are contributing. Anyone else notice we play well when we go small? I’m not even bringing up last season.

55 points put up by Stuckey and Bynum.

Dirk Nowitski led the Mavs with 25 but he had to take 27 shots to do it.

Charlie Villanueva put up a double-double with 13 points, 10 boards, a blocked shot and an assist. Some points just come easy when you get a good dish from a teammate.

Despite the fact that Ben Gordon was cold all night, I had no problem with him taking the last shot for the tie.

This one looked like it was going to be a pretty easy win over the injured Wizards when Detroit took the lead early. But one of my favorite non Pistons Earl Boykins, who was playing for the first time this season (a new acquisition for Washington), was on a mission to show his new teammates what he could do. He scored 20 off the bench, getting his team right back in the game by the half.

54 points combined for Charlie V and Ben Gordon.

From what I hear from a few members of team N4S that went to the game, there were plenty of Pistons fans cheering them on in Washington.

I know many people are putting a mini Sheed label on Charlie V, something I don’t quite agree with (yet), he sure looked a lot like him when he was knocking down threes like they were layups. 12 of his 25 points game from long range. Villanueva added 7 boards, 2 steal and 2 blocked shots before fouling out late in the fourth.

Photo/Getty Images

“It is a good opportunity. It’s an unfortunate situation that our top two players are out (Hamilton and Prince) but no one is going to feel sorry for us so we have to keep playing hard. It creates opportunity for other guys and they are taking on the challenge. I feel like we are going to win games by playing good defense.” Via Pistons.com

It’s safe to say Charlie V is in a groove and is fitting in just fine with Detroit’s style of play.

Just 2 from SWEEEEDE (Jerebko), but his hustle and defense does wonders in the starting lineup.

Rodney Stuckey scored 17 in 44 minutes of play on 5-for 13 shooting with 9 boards, 4 assists and a steal. He turned the ball over 4 times but his help on the boards along with the other guards cemented the Pistons com back win.

The Wizards may have scored over 100, but do you realize that this Pistons team is 5th in the league in Defense.

Bynum just doesn’t drive the lane to score you know!

Video Courtesy of The NBA, FSN and The Detroit Pistons

This team showed heart and determination scrapping out a win after the Wizards took the lead in the fourth quarter. In the past they might have just laid down and took one, but they did everything they could to pull it out.

Will Bynum put the team on his back in the third quarter and got then right back in it. I know that many of you think I’m on a Bynumite kick, but I’ll stand up to anyone who says it’s not well deserved. We knew what he could do last season, it was just a matter of him getting a chance. Will scored 20 off the bench for Detroit in 31 minutes with 8 boards and 6 assists. Did anyone see him take just about everyone on the Wizards off the dribble last night? He was great last night!

Hate to say it, but had MC been coaching last night this team probably would have lost.

My stat of the night, 42 points in the paint for Detroit. I hated the fact that in the past few seasons when we had Sheed and considerable size that we didn’t put up enough easy buckets, they really have surprised me with their work down low.

The Pistons led early by as much as 13 and the Wizards mounted a 10 point lead late. This one was truly a game of runs, thankfully Detroit went on a big one late in the game to pull it out.

DNP for Chris Wilcox, who I wish would be contributing more when he gets time on the court. It’s understandable why he’s not playing considering the numbers he’s put up, but he’s got to step it up, we know what he can do.

Our leading scorer Ben Gorden had another fantastic night leading all scorers with 29. Does anyone even question him when he puts up as shot? It seems like he makes everything he puts up.

Photo/Getty Images

Anybody worried about Jason Maxiell? Our spark plug is loosing his spark. I know he had a nice block the other night, but I’m still waiting for him to be a consistent force the Pistons can count on. Jason played 14 minutes and scored 5 with 4 boards. He needs to start taking after Wallace 2.0.

DaJuan Summers and Austin Day each logged 4 minutes without scoring.

Why Ben Wallace ditched his headband early in the game we will never know, but his contributions to this team have surpassed everything this Pistons fans thought he could do. The man had just as many assists (4) as our starting point guard. Take a look at this scrappy assist…..

Video Courtesy of The NBA, FSN and The Detroit Pistons

Wallace 2.0 finished the game with 5 points on 2-for-2 shooting with 7 boards a steal and 2 blocked shots. Can he play 30 minutes a night all season long is the question.

Still no timetable on Rip of Tayshaun.

Bynumite tried to wow the Wizards crowd with another jaw dropping dunk over a big man, but the had to foul him to stop him.

Kwame Brown had to hear the boos from the Washington crowd. It’s unfortunate but he’s kind of similar to Pistons fans relationship with Darko. Kwame finished with 3 points and 3 boards in 9 minutes.

The Pistons did a little more than win Wednesday night at the Palace, they massacred the Bobcats 75-98 in one of the most exciting games at the Palace of Auburn Hills in a while. Not only did Will…thrill, Charlie Villanueva put up 30 points without even playing the fourth quarter.

Key Points:

Nothing was more Key than this Dunk that really started the Pistons on their way to the rout. All I have to say quite frankly is WOW! If you are a regular visitor of Need4Sheed you know how I feel about Mr. Bynum, but I’m seriously thinking of paying homage to him in my memorabilia area… Where is my Bynumite Bobblehead? Do you realize he dunked on Tyson Chandler too?!

Video Courtesy of The NBA, FSN and The Detroit Pistons

Will, was clearly the fan favorite putting up 16 points, with 4 assists, a blocked shot and a board. Would it be wrong in saying that he’s our new spark plug?
And it was not ONE but TWO crazy dunks, one following a Bynum Block..yes I said it, a block. I am sorry for all of you who didn’t see this one because you don’t get Fox Plus so this Will Bynum reel should do you just right!

Just because this one was out of hand doesn’t mean it wasn’t close in the first half. The two teams exchanged leads 9 times.

First NBA points from DaJuan Summers, who scored 2 in 11 minutes.

26 assists for the Pistons -- much, much better than the eight they put up the other night.

Big Ben Wallace still acting like it’s 2004 with 9 boards, 3 steals and 3 blocks. I think he’s earned his measly pay check after 8 games. I am really beginning to think Arnie Kandor has mythical powers. Now all he needs to do is help Rip and Tay.

Board war may have been only won by a board, but for a team who I thought was going to have big troubles they are doing ok.

Something new we are starting as Pistons fans thanks to a great idea from The Fluidics (longtime team N4S member). When Jonas Jerebko has the ball we scream SWEEEEEEEEDE! How great is that?

Jonas is also a fan favorite, we like hard work in the “D” so Jerebko fits right in. Jonas scored this dunk and added a three on the next possession, finishing the game with 5 points. No I’m not changing the site’s name to Need4Swede, but it sounds good doesn’t it?

Video Courtesy of The NBA, FSN and The Detroit Pistons

Surprisingly Ben Gordon didn’t lead the way for the Pistons thanks to Charlie V. When you score 22 for your team like Ben did and add 8 assists and a steal and you don’t lead the team….things are going right. Another stellar performance for Mr. Gordon.

Stuckey scored 16 on 6-for-10 shooting with 7 assists and just 2 turnovers. Great night for Stuckey, let’s stop worrying about his assists while we are winning, give him some credit; he had a team-high a +31 in the box score.

Can’t take anything away from Charlie Villanueva, who had his breakout game and career high as a Piston, scoring 30 points without playing a minute of the fourth quarter. He lit up the Palace in the third quarter like it was Times Square. @CV31 was showing us moves I didn’t think he had and having fun on the floor. The man was 13 for 17 from the floor, 2 for 4 from downtown adding 4 boards and a block. Convinced yet?

Photo/Getty Images

Kwame Brown, yes Kwame, is still playing his heart out. He had a great and-one finishing with 3 points and 5 boards.

Hustle from Austin Day whose two points came on a nice Dunk.

John Kuester is a happy man today, it’ s nice to beat your mentor.

Clearly Children were harmed here by Jason Maxiell. Seriously, that looks like it hurts.

Video Courtesy of The NBA, FSN and The Detroit Pistons

Nice job holding Gerald Wallace to only 12 points.

Defense! We really do have it, don’t we? Or do the Bobcats just have a tough time scoring?

I knew this season would be fun, but it’s turning out better than expected especially considering the absence of Rip and Tay.

First back to back wins for Detroit.

I have been asked so I will answer this question here to end my very exiting recollection of a very fun game at the Palace. What do you think of Ben and Charlie?
I knew they both would be good, but they are both showing me more than I ever thought they would. I knew Ben was a pure shooter, but him carrying us while the Rip and Tay are out for the count…I never saw that coming. As for Charlie V, he’s working his way to fitting into “Detroit Basketball” very nicely.

Just a little FYI about the new layout here, the top rotating image with the Schedule Calendar, Intro Video and now the Will DUNK is click-able. When you see the image you are interested in, click it and you will go to the post or video.

I’ll add a thanks to the Troops for all that they do for us.

The Pistons won their first Sunday game of the season, taking down the Sixers 81-88 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Another game without Rip Hamilton and of course Tayshaun Prince, but this time it was our old friend Ben Wallace who put on a rebounding clinic on his familiar floor.

Key Points:

Ben Wallace had an amazing 16 boards on the night, 11 of them coming in the first half, which is a Pistons record. Either he loves being back in Detroit, or Arnie has got some secret anti-aging fountain of youth voodoo drink concoction he’s giving him. If it’s the later….I’ll take some please.

“I knew Ben would be an asset talking to our bigs,” head coach John Kuester said. “I never imagined the impact he would have playing. Right now, he looks like the old Ben. He’s leading by example” Via NBA.com

An impressive 51 rebounds for the Pistons. I attended the matinee and all I kept thinking was, boy are they ever gobbling up boards -- especially on the offense (21). I had no idea the number would add up like that.

Did I mention Mr. Wallace also blocked 3 shots and added 3 steals!

SWEDEtastic!

Video Courtesy of The NBA and The Detroit Pistons

Is Jonas Jerebko making good of his time on court of what? This kid is pure hustle who knows a golden opportunity when he sees it. Jerebko scored 10 on 5-for-10 shooting, with 5 boards in 22 minutes. The putback jam was tops, but all his highlights are solid.

More minutes for Jason Maxiell who scored just 2 with 2 boards in 20 minutes on the floor.

Iguodala got hot quickly for the Sixers and led all scorers with 24. It’s usually Tay who plays him tough, so he had an easier time Sunday afternoon.

Boy is Charlie Villanueva starting to warm up. It looked like the Pistons tried to draw plays for him in the first quarter to help him get off to the right start early in the game. CV31 finished with 16 points , 5 boards and a blocked shot in 27 minutes on the floor and was showing some sweet moves in the post all weekend long.

All Daye long…Nice spin move from Austin in the post after a dish from Bynum. Daye, who’s also making the best of an awful situation (T-Prince’s injury) scored 7 points in 14 minutes on the floor.

Video Courtesy of The NBA and The Detroit Pistons

Fourteen assists for the Pistons.

Though Detroit led most of the game, they let the Sixers take the lead in the fourth quarter, but went on a 16-6 tear to finish the game.

DNP for Wilcox who’s not living up to (my) expectations.

Great job by Stuckey holding Iguodala to 1-4 shooting in the fourth quarter. Rodney finished the game with 13 points on 5-for-15 shooting, 5 boards, 3 assists and a steal

BYNUMITE stats of the night 8-8-8 ! Boards, assists and points. Not to mention the sweet dish on NBA.com. I have a soft spot for Mr. Bymum and cross-court bounce passes.

My apologies to Will for starting this whole BYMUMITE thing…it seems to have really taken on it’s own life. Not only was it on Pistons.com, but I’ve heard it on the radio broadcasts a few times now. Sorry “Will the Thrill”.

What’s more of a surprise, Pistons fans:
The play of the rookies, Austin Daye and Jonas Jerebko?
Ben Wallace?
Or AI’s mess in Memphis?

42 points in the paint, that’s a great stat for Pistons team that has struggled in that department.

Can we please talk about Kwame Brown. I have said it before, this guy really puts in the effort. He may not put up 20 a night but he’s doing just what he came here to do. We need him to produce and hustle and he’s doing just that. He finished with 7 points, 8 boards and a steal in 18 minutes. Give the guy some credit please.

Ben on Ben: “Seems like he’s at home here in Detroit,” Gordon said. “Playing for (Chicago and Cleveland) the last few years, it never seemed like he was at home. You can tell Big Ben is definitely at home here.” Via NBA.com

Photo/Getty Images

Another stellar game from Ben Gordon. I think he’s definitely showing management and fans that he was well worth his contract. Once again BG led the Pistons with 23 points on 9-for-19 shooting with 2 boards, 2 assists and a steal. The highlights are mounting and the Pistons have only played seven games.

The Pistons did their best to try to pull out another game without Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince, but the Raptors didn’t cooperate with Detroit’s plans. Detroit went down 99-110 in Toronto after another gutsy effort.

Key Points:

Another start for Jonas Jerebko and his first NBA points. Hustle from Jerebko and defensive effort turned into 2 blocks, 3 boards and 8 points.

Though not a 20 point night, Rodney Stuckey put up a solid double-double with 10 boards, 13 points and 4 assists.

We have to face facts, it’s clear that Detroit desperately needs front court help. They can’t count on the guards to do all the scoring.

I’m getting Ben Wallace DeJa vu. He’s as closer to the Ben that left to go to Chicago than I could have ever imagined. Now Kuester needs to limit his time a bit more so this lasts all season. Wallace finished with 9 boards and 6 points.

Toronto became the first team this season to score more than 100 points against Detroit. Does that mean the “D” is officially back? Probably not, but it’s a refreshing surprise.

Another heroic effort from Will Bynum, who did his best in the fourth to get the Pistons back in it. He tied the game up with this drive and finished the game with16 points, 6 assists and a steal in 33 minutes. I know he prefers “The Thrill” but I can’t help screaming Bynumite, when he does something spectacular like this…

Video Courtesy of The NBA and The Detroit Pistons

Austin Day looks a lot like Tayshaun on court, especially when he’s blocking people with those long arms. Daye logged 16 minutes, blocking 2 shots, with 3 boards and 5 points.

Jason Maxiell got 10 minutes of floor time and added a bit of a spark. A nice putback with 3 boards with 4 points.

By the way….how many “trade rumor” stories did you read after the Orlando game?

20 trips to the line for Bosh, that’s big.

How much do you enjoy watching Ben Gordon? I’m sure I’ll be writing this again but… Ben Gordon put up a career high in a Pistons uniform while leading the team with 30 points. He’s truly putting this team on his back with Rip and Tay out. Oh and I’m enjoying the fact the Bulls fans are sick about it.

Photo/Getty Images

First official NBA time for DaJuan Summers who saw 40 seconds.

Pistons shot well, shooting 45% for the game, but needed to get some stops down the stretch and couldn’t.

Charlie Villanueva played his best game as a Piston against the team that drafted him. A pretty good stat line in all departments with 16 points, 7 boards a steal and a block. He’s looking better in red, white and blue every night.

Tough to play a back to back shorthanded, especially after the battle against Orlando. You could clearly see the effort, but they just fell flat mid fourth quarter.

A little more Ben

Good to see Amir Johnson get some time on court. He really helped Toronto when the Pistons started making a run in the third.

A day of rest and a tough rematch in Orlando Friday night. I hope someone bring some more Kryptonite.

My good friend Ryan over at HoopsAddict got the inside scoop in the Pistons locker room last night. I’ll quote him, and then send you over for the audio. “Tonight the Pistons locker room was pure jokes, hence Rip Hamilton free styling before the game about “pimpin’ ain’t easy fo’ sheezy” Pre and post game audio over at Hoopsaddict.com

The Pistons handed the Orlando Magic their first loss of the season Tuesday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Not only where the Pistons without Richard Hamilton again, Tayshaun Prince finally missed a game after starting 496 straight. Great guard play all around for Detroit led by the gutsy play off Will Bynum after he returned from a poke in the eye from Marcin Gortat and made some key plays down the stretch to lead Detroit to a 80-85 victory.

Key points:

Though the crowd was sparse at the Palace, the Pistons had the crowd rocking from tip to buzzer.

17 minutes from Superman, who finally fouled out on in the fourth on a Bynumite drive.

63 combined points from Gordan, Stuckey and Bynum.

When did white chocolate land in Orlando?

Jonas Jerebko who became the first Swedish born player to start and NBA took Tayshaun Prince’s spot in the lineup. Jerebko was 0-for-5 but grabbed 5 boards and was hustling all night long.

Things got scrappy in the second half when both teams got physical with their fouls. Could it have started with the Stuckey throw down on Dwight that sent him to the locker room? Possibly, but how can 50 Cent hurt Superman…really. Hard fouls back and fourth, especially one from Jameer Nelson on Will Bynum. Even J.J. Reddick got into the mix.

If your counting that’s 4 straight wins against the Magic.

It’s getting a little better for Charlie V. Villanueva scored 12 with an assist and grabbed 8 boards. He’s looking like he’s really getting used to Detroit Basketball.

First NBA points for Austin Daye in his 4 minutes on court.

Prince will be sidelined for at least three games before his status is re-evaluated this weekend.

I can’t tell you how many times we are going to hear “Rip and Tay or just Tay or just Rip…..should be traded” just stop now. It’s one game and we are 4 games into the season.

Great night for Rodney who was one rebound shy of a double-double. Stuck put up 20 points with 9 boards, 3 assists and a steal.

Photo/Getty Images

Don’t worry about Rodneys’ assists… though the ball movement was ok at times, the Pistons only had 8 total all game. Will this team have assist issues all season long…probably not.

Ok, I did read this stat right: Orlando was 10-for-35 from three point land… that’s a ton of threes. Meanwhile the Pistons were 0-for-6 on the night.

No play at all for Jason Maxiell, is he in the doghouse with Kuester too?

By far win or lose and despite the absence of Rip and Tay, this was the best the Pistons have played in a long, long time. I’m talking current or past lineup. Hard fought, gritty basketball was the key and Detroit did everything they had to do to pull it out.

On a night that I thought the bigs would have had to step up, it was the guards who had big nights. They not only put up big numbers, they got the Magic in foul trouble.

Ben Gordon was great again, leading the team with 23 points, 5 boards, 3 assists and a steal. He’s stepping up and taking doing what he’s got to do when the Pistons need buckets. And guess what …he makes ‘em. He was 6-for-10 from the floor and 11-for-11 from the line.

Photo/Getty Images

Eight total points from the Piston Bigs on the night.

Pistons went to the line 38 times and made 31 to Orlando’s 12-for-16 from the line. Thank the Pistons guards for driving the lane all night long.

Great play from Ben Wallace again, who scored just 2 but grabbed 10 boards with 2 steals and 2 blocked shots. Best of all he was fired up…just like old times.

I have to say I really like Dwight Howard, but he’s defiantly one of those players who’s face always looks like he never committed a foul in his life.

Orlando led 41-38 at the half but the Pistons (finally with a good third quarter) made a game of it the rest of the way.

I am not kidding you when I tell you the last few minutes of the game was electrifying at the Palace. When it was clear that we were going to pull it out I was simply WOWed.

Not only did Bynum come back, he drove the lane hard on Dwight, sacrificing his already bruised body (eye) and forced Howard to foul out. With his 20 points on the night he clearly was the player of the game, especially what he had to do to get it. His basket in the closing minute was the dagger.

Video Courtesy of The NBA and The Detroit Pistons

Crazy hand for Will Bynum who came back from a horrible poke in the eye from Gortat. He looked like he wasn’t even going to be able to stand up at first, let alone come back in the game. And looking at the replay when I returned from the game it was worse than on Palace Vision. That’s what I call Superman!

Oh, and was that a tackle on Will, Jameer?

Photo/Getty Images

Rebound war won 44-41.

Great win, things came together and the team gave Pistons fans something to cheer about.

Thanks go out to my Twitter followers who (in a matter of seconds) let me know why Tayshaun didn’t start last night and what exactly happened to Will Bynum when he went down. Love going to the games, but when you have no idea what Blaha and Kelser are saying it can be frustrating. I know you have my back, so thanks.

Ben said it best: “We can’t afford to come out and take off the first five minutes,” said Ben Wallace, who finished with eight points and 10 rebounds. “We got ourselves into a dogfight and they took advantage of it.” Via The Detroit News

Pistons aside, go pick up Brandon Jennings in your fantasy teams. Not only did this rookie almost put up a triple-double the other night he pretty much single-handedly turned a 49-38 halftime deficit into a 74-63 lead going into the fourth. He scored 14 points during a 19-4 run, and he had 16 points in the quarter. This likely rookie of the year dropped 24 total on Detroit and was fun to watch. He put Stuckey to shame a couple times down the floor, specifically in the third when Rodney went in for a floater that missed and Jennings picked up his rebound, took it to the other end and put up a left handed floater right back in Stuck’s face.

“I’m very pleased with our defensive effort,” Kuester said. “We’ll get better offensively before it’s all over.” Via The Detroit Free Press.

Second half failure on offense and defense. The Pistons allowed the Bucks a free reign to score 36 points and shoot 68.4% in the third quarter.

Why the Bucks crowd felt the need to boo Charlie Villanueva is beyond me. He didn’t leave and go to a rival for more money, the Bucks never offered him a contract. Give the guy a break . Charlie scored 12 points on 4-8 shooting with 6 boards in 23 minutes on the floor. He helped spark the listless Pistons in the fourth quarter. Charlie V foul watch – 5 on the night.

Photo/Getty Images

No Blaha on the broadcast, they didn’t tell us why, but he was likely filling his MSU responsibilities. Mark Champion did a fine job on the call.

I’m wondering if Charlie V a good three point shooter, because he sure is taking a ton of them.

Say what you will about Kwame Brown, he puts so much effort out every game that it’s refreshing. He finished with 4 boards and a steal.

Burn for Jonas Jerebko, who I have noticed at the home games is the girls replacement for Goldie Locks himself Walter Herrmann. His first name is Jonas but he’s got some fans in Detroit that would rival the Jonas Brothers. Jonas played six minutes and picked up 2 fouls and 2 boards.

I always get a kick out of watching Carlos Delfino playing against Detroit no matter what team he’s on. He always has something to prove and does whatever he can to make his point, good or bad. He’s starting for the Bucks and I wish him well, but the Pistons usually get the best of him. Delfino finished with 5 points on 2-for-7 shooting.

Jason Maxiell had the Milwaukee crowd wowed with a thunder dunk. Remember when Maxie would come in and spark the team with making plays? Maybe it came back against the Bucks. Two ridiculous back to back blocks at end of the first half for Jason.

They mentioned on the broadcast that the Guards are carrying the scoring load. Isn’t that what we expected? Or are we going to rely on Kwame and Ben? Tayshaun and Charlie have to help the little guys out.

Stuckey scored 13 points on 6-for-19 shooting, looked good in the first half as you can tell from the nice effort and and one below but had difficulties with Jennings and poor shot selection after the break. Give him credit for 8 assists, something Pistons fans were worried about. I am a fan of Rodney but sometimes his decisions to drive the lane in the crowd and get stuffed by the big men wears me down.

Big Ben Wallace had another great night for the Pistons, just 2 points shy of a double-double with 10 boards and 8 points on the night.

NO Wilcox or Daye? I think we needed Chris to give us some inside presence, especially since the front court want really able to do much.

You can see how everything just stopped in the second half by the assist stat. Detroit had 12 at the half and 17 on the night.

Outrebounded 26-29.

Ben Gordon led the Pistons again with 26 points on 8-for-15 shooting with 3 assists and 2 boards. Who says the guy plays no D, Gordon statch the ball 3 times against Milwaukee and has been looking like he’s trying to fit into Detroit’s (used to be) defensive mold.

Photo/Getty Images

Will Bynum 10 points, 2 assists and a board in 20 minutes.

We need a bit more from Tayshaun, especially with Rip out. He scored 12 on 6-for-12 shooting with 3 assists and 2 boards. I’m not asking him to put up 20 a night, though I know he can, he just needs to spark the team when he’s on the floor.

It’s like a Jekyll and Hyde thing, fun to watch in the first half and a nightmare in the second.

Hopefully the two days of “rest” will help Detroit straighten things out before they host Dwight Howard and the Magic Tuesday night.

Even if you don’t want to, watch the highlights simply to enjoy the talent that rookie Brandon Jennings displayed Saturday night. Still waiting on the NBA to post them, but here are the first half highlights.

As I was catching up on my Tweeting, I noticed this from Charlie Villanueva “feeling like crap today, I’m so sick right now.” That was twittered today at 11 AM, hopefully that’s the reason for his woes on court. Feel better @CV31, we need you.

The new players impressed and the seasoned ones did the rest. The Pistons pummeled the Memphis Grizzlies in the season opener 96-74, led by 25 from Rip Hamilton while Ben Gordon added 22. The big question has been could the two exist together, and I think they answered that one emphatically with 47 points between them.

Key Points:

The Defense? Well it didn’t look that bad, holding the Grizz to just 74 was a nice way to start.

I mentioned before that Charlie Villanueva was a little (and that’s being nice) lax on playing “D” but he looked like he was really trying to step it up before he got into very early foul trouble. Let’s hope that’s not an issue.

Coach Kuester started his tenure with Detroit the right way.

This was the team I was hoping to see this season.

First official points from Ben Gordon as a Piston… leaning glass gunner with the shot clock expiring. Four point play, followed by a buzzer beater at the quarter. Ben impressed with 22 points on 7-12 shooting in 25 minutes on the floor.

Video Courtesy of The NBA and The Detroit Pistons

You know how it feels for Pistons fans to see Sheed on the hated Celtics. Well just bask in the glory that Bulls fans are killing themselves right now watch Ben Gordon don the red, blue and white!

Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon’s first Pistons points – triples.

I love the George Blaha (don’t we all?) poster in Memphis…priceless

Bynum is really trying to cement this whole point guard position. Bynumite with 5 points, 5 boards and 7 assists in 23 minutes.

Rip tweaked his ankle late in the game after a very impressive performance. Hopefully he will be just fine. I was worried about him as the game started as well as the preseason but he looked great. He loses his ducktail and he gets his shot back, coincidence? I think not.

Ben Wallace back to his “Big Ben” status? Fear the fade?

Photo/Getty Images

Wallace not only started for Detroit, but he was very impressive making his defensive presence felt while making it contagious to his teammates. Ben finished with 9 boards, a blocked shot and 3 points in 28 minutes. Pleasant surprise…

Rodney Stuckey 12 points on 6-for-10 shooting with three assists and two boards. I’m hoping his assists are better this season, but either way I think he’s going to be substantially better than last season.

Tayshaun Prince looked good with 14 points, 5 boards and 3 assists in 31 minutes.

Will rebounds be a problem? Probably – Pistons outboarded 39-49.

I was thinking that Rip’s ego might be a little bruised by Ben Gordon but the fact that Gordon scored the coveted Dr. Rahmani commercial was like writing it in stone. That’s Rip’s gig, my man.

Rip started slow but totally stole the show with 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting with 4 assists and 3 boards. Great start for Rip who was looking a little confused during the preseason.

Photo/Getty Images

I’m hoping Jason Maxiell really plays the way I think he can play. Maxi with 2 points, 6 boards and a ton of hustle in 14 minutes on the floor.

51% shooting on the nigh – WOW.

Charlie V started the game and scored 7. A great dunk but he’ll have to watch the fouls.

No Austin Daye or Jonas Jerebko, (The Second coming of Detroit Bad Boys) who were both suspended for their skirmishes in the preseaon. Pistons dressed just 10 players.

37% for three.

Highlights of the Game

Nice way to make Pistons fans feel after the mess that was last season.

I can’t wait to see what the crowd is like Friday night at the Palace. Ben Wallace with a serious ovation during the intros I predict.
