Andre Drummond Shines in The Pistons Loss to The Thunder

Andre Drummond

#Pistons fans finally got a chance to see what they’ve wanted to Friday night in Detroit’s 94-105 loss to the Thunder. They saw more time from rookie Andre Drummond and the pairing of Greg Monroe and Andre.  It didn’t happen until late in the third quarter, but as soon at he entered the Pistons, who were down 12 went on a 9-0 run.

Despite the horrible start to the season, Detroit saw a bright spot Friday night.

Key Points:

  • The dynamic duo looked like they had been playing together for more than a few months. Monroe kept finding Drummond for easy layups and Drummond helped on the defensive end.
  • This was clearly the best game the Pistons played all season long. It it may sound ridiculous, but I rather see them play like this and lose then win against an inferior team.

Andre Drummond: I’m not really worried about who I play with or how much time I play, I’m just worried about winning basketball games. That’s what it really boils down to. Yeah, it’s great playing alongside Greg, if that’s what a lot of people want to see – how it will work between us. But the bigger picture is winning basketball games.”

  • That stats of this one will really tell you things are looking up.
  • The board war won for the first time this season, 41-38.
  • The Pistons had 17 fast break point to the Thunder’s 15.
  • They are still however playing catchup at times. The Thunder’s biggest lead was 16, and the Pistons was 3
  • 50 points in the paint, to the Thunder’s 40.
  • Great first quarter from the Pistons who made the Thunder struggle. In the first quarter, OKC shot 27.3 percent overall (6-for-22) and 16.7 percent (1-for-6) on 3-pointers and scored just 18 points.

  • Durant and Ibaka each put up 25 for the Thunder.
  • With this loss, Detroit begins the season 0-6. That’s the Pistons’ worst start to a season since the 1979-80 team started 0-7.
  • Stuckey with 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting, with 6 assists in 36 minutes on the floor.
  • Are we counting Greg Monroe’s double-doubles (or triple-double’s) yet? Greg with four assists shy of another triple. He finished with 14 points, 10 boards and six assists adding a whopping 3 blocked shots. Bring on all those haters who keep saying that Greg Monroe won’t be a star.

  • Andre the Giant led the Pistons with 22 points with 8 boards, a steal and a blocked shots in just 20 minutes. Do you think Lawrence Frank will finally “get it,” and play Drummond starter minutes?

Lawrence Frank: “We were going to look at it because we’ve got to continue to find different answers. We had different reasons for not doing it before and it’s not going to be (22) and eight (every game). We know that. But for the first time in a regular-season game in a really good environment, it’s really nice to see how Andre responded. There are things we can build on and we have a lot of work to do.”

  • I’m fine with Kyle Singler playing more minutes, I really am.
  • Tayshaun with 16 points, 3 assists, 6 boards, and 2 steals in 36 minutes. Nice stat line, but they usually only happen about once every 10 games or so. Like I mentioned before, he’s just not a starter anymore.
  • Charlie V and Austin Day…cheerleaders making a hell of a lot of money.
  • Sub par showing from Maxiell, who scored a point with 6 boards in 20 minutes.
  • Drummond became the first Piston rookie to lead the team in scoring off the bench since Monroe did it early in his rookie season.
  • Saturday night marks the last game of this miserable road trip, with a game against the Rockets.

This team is a lot better than 0-6. I saw a few positives out of last night. Don’t think we’re going to be winless for much longer. Stuckey needs to be more decisive. He’s thinking too much. He’s one of the vets on the floor and should call for the ball a little more than he has been in the past couple games. Drummond and Monroe look good together. Can’t wait for this team to develop.
