Pistons take down the Kings

Posted · 8 Comments

The Pistons got a much-needed win on the road against the Kings Wednesday night. With a 57-58 halftime score the game that looked like it was going to a battle, but the Pistons put the pedal to the floor with a 31 point swing and led by 15 with four minutes left in the third quarter and never looked back.

Key Points:

  • Stuckey and Monroe put up huge numbers, as well as Prince. The trio combined for 95 of the Pistons 124 points.
  • Prince had 28 including his 9000th career point. Prince, who’s been playing well during the Pistons resurgence added 7 assists, 2 blocked shots a steal and five boards in 36 minutes on the floor.
  • Trade deadline is 3pm today – Via @Chris_Broussard ESPN Insider “Detroit is shopping Austin Daye all day every day. Not many teams biting right now.”
  • Monroe and Brandon Knight with double-doubles.
  • Brandon Knight scored 10 point,a career high 11 assists, and zero turnovers.
  • Yes…that happened.

  • The Pistons were giving up easy baskets to start this one, but started to play with more energy in the second quarter. Key word…Defense.
  • Every game this team plays better defense. Thank you L Frank.
  • Greg Monroe, winner of the Monroe/Cousins battle put up 32 points on 15 for 20 shooting with 11 board. He looked like he was on a mission all night long.

Greg Monroe: “The first game we won (against the Kings in Detroit). Tonight we won and that’s all that matters. Great team effort tonight, (Rodney) Stuckey got hot. Tay (Prince) got hot.… You never let a one-on-one matchup win the game.”

  • The Kings had 48 points with seven minutes left in the first half.
  • Another Stucktacular night for Rodney, who led all scorers with 35 points, 6 assists and 5 boards. As most of us have said before, this is what Stuckey could have always done if he was a two guard instead of making him be the point on this team for so many seasons.

  • Jerebko had a bug and missed shoot around, but still managed to play 15 minutes. He scored 4 points with 4 fouls.
  • Pistons outscored the Kings 40-23 in the third quarter.
  • Playing like a team. Detroit with 29 assists on the night.

Lawrence Frank: “We loss to Utah, we won tonight, and now we prepare for Phoenix. I don’t look at it as an entire road trip. I look at it as one game at a time. I don’t think losing to Utah set a bad tone; I think we just lost the game. We are coming together as a team. It’s been a collection of things that are happening together that has allowed us to get some wins. We are making incremental improvements. It’s not just one game or one player, but as a team we are doing well on both sides of the ball.”

  • Nice to get this one, especially with the schedule.
  • Ben Gordon anyone?  Deadline coming up.

Huge game for Moose, Tayshaun and Stuck.
In fact Stuck has averaged over 24 points during the month of March which would put him behind only Wade and Kobe for PPG for SG.

The Pistons can beat out the Cavs and the slumping Knicks but may have a tougher time beating out the Bucks for the last playoff spot in the East.
The Bucks have won 4 in a row.

Saw the score in the early morning (central Europe) and I was like: Da fuq? :)

I disgree with the Stuckey observation, I feel it’s the coach that would have made the difference for Stuckey at point. Look at what he’s doing for Knight right now. Knight is really a combo guard also but with Frank coaching him he’ll be fine, Similar to D Rose, Rose is a combo guard who has learned how to distribute the ball. Rondo is a point guard, Kid , Nash, Andre Miller. Stuckey is benefiting like Chancey did with Brown as a shooting guard Stuck would have made the same development under Brown too. Q , Flip , and Curry not good at coaching or coaching point guards. Frank is a coach , and players grow with him.

oh nat took you three years but you finally got on the stuckey bandwagon and left ben gordon behind. Welcome aboard.

I dunno what Joe Dumars says he is on the phone for every day, unless maybe he’s ordering pizza. Check out this incredibly depressing graph

this team has been transformed into something good. Thank you Lawrence Frank.

    The Pistons has been Frank-ensteined.

greg oden got released today. what do you guys imagine having him would be like? shift monroe to the PF, get a true center in there. And say what you will about his play, but I chalk a majority of it up to injuries, of which we can fix with magic (arnie). Think about it, he’s young, he’s angry now probably, he’s a proven college star, and he was flashes of brilliance when he started out. they used to say kevin durant or greg oden! remember?! IT WAS HUGE! and now we have him, and you’re all thinking *okay kwame number two, here we go…* but this kid can hustle. he got injured PLAYING too much ball! but what do you think he’s been doing while he’s been injured? rehabbing, learning drills, strengthening these areas and minimilizing risk! (kindof) and he’s actually not a moron in the post, offense or defense. he blocks shots. he was a great rebounder, and he can take it to the rack, and complement greg monroe’s passing. he can supplant greg monroe on d. its beautiful! *picture color commentary* greg monroe gets the offensive putback! what a combo these two are! * it’s possible. he could at worst, be like mcdyess. and if you ask me. thats worth his contract, and a half. plus. we can still amnesty clause villanueva. that guy is puke city.

you guys see that our ex piston chris wilcox had aortic surgery yesterday? out for the season, hopefully he can make a full recovery. get well chris.

  8. terry says:

luckily there aren’t many easy games left on the schedule, so we should fall short of the playoffs and into the lottery again. The Pistons are building chemistry and confidence (too late for this season), will get a lottery pick, and will still have use of the amnesty… Nice. Where’s my Stuckey haters at?
