Pistons Make it Three in a Row

The Real Ben Gordon emerged Friday night to lead the Pistons to a 106-99 victory over the Miami Heat.  Gordon, starting in place of the injured Rodney Stuckey, scored 26 of his season high 39 points in the second half.

Key Points:

  • Tayshaun was electric all game long, in fact he scored his first 20 points seemed to come withing minutes of the game.  Tay finished with 28 points, 7 assists, and 6 boards. He knew right when to defer to Gordon when he had the hot hand.  All around great play from Prince for  going on a couple of month now.

  • Not surprised by all the empty seats in Miami.   Their team is playing well, Wade is playing well, they are going to the playoffs and they can’t fill their arena.  They have to win a championship or be close to it to get their “fans” in the seats.
  • The Pistons won and snapped the Heat’s 9 have winning streak.
  • I guess Ben Gordon and Tay don’t care what number the Pistons Draft.   Weren’t the Pistons just tied for third worst record a week ago.  With the win last night the Pistons are tied with the Sixers for sixth worst record.  If they keep at this it’s going to cut their lottery balls in half.

  • Ben G was simply electric going 12-for-21 and shooting 7-for-11 from downtown.  Seriously…I know he got hurt, but this game came out of nowhere.  Maybe his insertion in the starting lineup did it?  His line reads like this… 36 minutes 8-for-8 from the line, +11, 0 boards, 3 assists, 2 fouls, 2 steals, 1 turnover, 0 blocks, 1 block against and 39 points.

  • I have seen comments that Gordon “haters” need to take it all back.  Yes he put up 39 and helped the Pistons to victory.  But it doesn’t automatically excuse him from an awful season.  I know that kind of player he is and have not doubt that next season he will be back to playing the way we all know he can, but one game doesn’t erase things.  He has been owning it and so should the fans.

  • Is this called going out like a Lion?
  • In the box score it looks like “The Swede” had an unusually quite game. He finished with 3 points, 6 boards and 4 steals. He’s everywhere!
  • 50% shooting on the night for the Pistons.
  • Will, a quiet leader with 10 points, 5 assists, 3 boards and 2 steals.
  • Charlie Villanueva seems to have recovered from his twitter breakdown with solid games. He scored 11 points and grabbed 3 boards in 19 minutes on the floor.
  • Maxiell saw limited minutes in his first game back since being on the DL. Jason looked good, playing 22 and scoring 6 with 7 boards and an assist.
  • The past three games have been the most competitively played games strung together from Detroit all season.
  • Tayshaun with the NBA  #3 Top play of the night.
  • Another on in Charlotte Saturday night.

Ben Gordon said something interesting after the Philly game. He said it felt good to go out there and play and being able to play more minuets and play through mistakes. He wasn’t worried about being taken out if he made a mistake..I’m not making any excuses for him but that’s just telling me he was more focused on getting taken out of the game because of his mistakes then just playing. He’s a reactor player and not a thinking player. I just personally think that he started thinking to much instead of just playing like he normally does. That’s just my opinion and what i got from what he said.

    Peace.

BG is kinda like Ray Allen – streaky and gets stuck in his head. What Nat said is true, this change could’ve come earlier in the season.

How about TAY!!!!!!!!!! I always forget how fast he can be. I would love to see him keep this level all year next year. BTW. Did anyone hear if Tay’s back completely healed? I know it takes a long time for the discs to get better.

I still can’t get over Big Ben’s basket to basket run and dunk from the Hawks game. I’ve watched it at least 50x

Quit winning games already. It’s good to know that some of the players have pride and don’t want to end the season with a sour taste in their mouths, but c’mon.. now is NOT the time to throw out a winning streak. There are maybe 5 real impact players in this draft, do you REALLY want to be picking 6th or 7th?

    Terribly funny picture of Tayshuan

i think all this proves is that ben gordon is a head case. he really has no idea why he is shooting good or why he’s bad.

it’s ok to be a streaky shooter, as long as you can play good defense. And BG stayed in front of dwayne wade (with the double forcing the pass from wade) all night.

it sucks that we are hurting our lottery picks, but on the other hand, we already have two players, Ben Gordon and Charlie V . . . who just suck. They suck. And if winning out the rest of the season makes them committed to improving on the off season? That’s worth a lottery ball or two. Making our current roster better has to be as important as extra balls.

I sure was looking forward to getting cousins tho. At this rate we wont get him.

@edt………… i really dont think that a 39 point performance and 7-11 from the 3 pt line and 6th man of the year makes you suck

  9. edt says:

ben gordon has shown his entire career that he couldnt guard the ronald mcdonald clown. So if it shot doesnt fall he’s got nothing. Why do you think chicago didnt match the detroit offer?

If we are allowed to judge bg from one performance than will bynum is the best point guard to have played for detroit in 25 years better than billups because on march 12, will got 20 assists leading to a thorough trashing of the washington wizards 101-87.

    one game means nothing.

forget the 39 points, and 7 for 11. That dont even matter. Like, the shot falls or it dont fall. And if it falls you can still lose. so dont concentrate on the shot.

Ben gordon guarded dwayne wade! I loved that aspect of his game. Where has that been all season? Does bg only get up for big games? Did he pack it in when it seemed we wouldnt make the playoffs? Does BG sulk when he doesnt start and deliberately miss? Or is he a head case. I think he’s just a head case.

  10. Kyle says:

    a. it’s just one game.
    b. it’s an irrelevant game
    c. even if he starts he won’t get those minutes again, not when rip and stuckey are both healthy, cause they’re both better overall players.
    d. this is what ben gordon does, looks good in flashes, makes you think he can start, then shows you otherwise. this has always been bg’s m.o. and this fits in to it perfectly.

  11. Jawad says:

Gordon is the next Billups, FINALS MVP 2011

  12. Joe says:

@edt………… i really dont think that a 39 point performance and 7-11 from the 3 pt line and 6th man of the year makes you suck
