The Pistons can’t go into the All Star break on a high note. Detroit let a winnable game go Wednesday night at the Palace as they lost 103-97 to the Kings.

Key Points:

  • What happened to Detroit’s defense. The Kings were shooting the lights out at the Palace. The Kings shot 51.3% on the night.
  • Ben Gordon, who Pistons fans had a glimmer of hope, was getting his shot back went 0-for-8 from the floor. And after seeing his post game interview in the locker room, I’m convinced he need a break more than most. Body language says it all.
  • Impressed as always with Kevin Martin, who put up 26 for the Kings as well as Evan and Casspi. Purple uniform or not, I still hate Andres Nocioni.
  • Why does Udrih burn the Pistons, no matter what team he plays for? He put up 22 off the bench for the Kings.
  • Tayshaun was clearly the Player of the game going 11-for-15 for 23 points, 5 boards and assist and a blocked shot in 35 minutes on the floor. It’s hopeful to see Tayshaun revering from injury and finally stepping up.

  • Hate to say it, but Prince’s last two performances really helps his trade value.
  • Charlie Villanueva 4-for-8 for 11 points 3 boards and 1 assist. At this point, Jason Maxiell is totally outplaying him.  Charlie, we need a post presence, I know you like to shoot threes, but we already did this whole thing with another PF that just left the D for Green.
  • Ben Wallace still blocking shots and making hustle plays. Ben with 5 points, 13 boards, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots.
  • Rodney Stuckey put up 17 on 4-for-13 shooting with 9 assists, 4 steals, a blocked shot and 5 turnovers. It was one of those games when Rodney was doing whatever he could to make the push, but just couldn’t do it. It was also one of those games that late game turnovers from Rodney really hurt the Pistons chances of winning a game they had in their reach.
  • Stucktacular – Rodney Stuckey with the first half speedy layup buzzer beater.

  • Rip Hamilton with 14 on 5-for-18 shooting, with 2 steals, 3 assists and 3 boards.  Do you realize Rip has the worst FG% of his NBA Career at 39%, and his worst 3 point % at 25.
  • Is it too much to ask for a little Austin Daye?  I really feel he needs some minutes.
  • Will Bynum looked a little tentative after tweaking his ankle a bit on Tuesday.  Will scored 8 with 4 assists.
  • Jonas Jerebko 10 points, 7 boards and a steal in 26 minutes.  His Swedeness is making this season a little easier to watch.  Don’t  forget to watch him in the Rookie Challenge on Friday night.

  • The Kings pace was clearly too much for Detroit and the combination of the Pistons lack of D and quick shots from Sacramento did Detroit in.
  • The Pistons biggest lead was 8, while the Kings was 7.
  • Upset they lost this one, because they really are playing and better.
  • Board war tied at 41.
  • This one was hard to lose, it went back and fourth with 19 ties and 12 lead changes. Once again the Pistons folded in the closing minutes.
  • Don’t know if it was the snow, the Kings, the Pistons record, or a combination, but the crowd was very light at the Palace.
  • With all the injuries and the way the season has unfolded I’m sure that the Pistons can’t wait for the break.  I’m also quite certain Pistons fan don’t mind it much either.
  • Remember, February 18th is the NBA trade deadline.

I like the way our boys have been playing. We just made some bad turnovers at the end of the game.

another game that just hurt to lose. How do you lose to the Kings, at the Palace, on a winning streak? We had our chance to win this game, but defence was lacking in the last 5 minutes – the Kings scored 10 points on dunks and layups in a stretch at the end there.
Nat, you are spot on, the Pistons need this break. If not to help them get healthy, but to clear their minds, and freshen them up. I’m actually kind of happy no Pistons (except JJ) got selected to the all-star weekend.
1 Step forward. 2 steps back. Yesterday everything went almost perfect, the next night, seemed like nothing could go right in that last quarter.
How does their bench burn our bench like they did?
The only starter who didn’t have at least a good game was Rip, but even he was trying to spark a run in that fourth quarter.
This loss is on the bench.

yaa i guess we can forget about a playoff berth.

Jeeezeee…I could barely stand to watch the end of that game. See, I have grown up watching my Pistons give their all with a sense of a blue-collar team that fights for everything. I know that we are transitioning into a new era, but come on! The guys out there aren’t giving their all. Rip doesn’t play D (nothing new) and Tay played well, but he was hanging his head when we were down 6 like the game was over. I don’t know, I think it is time for a change and it needs to start with a late acquisition.

  5. Buzz Killington says:

Crucial Stuckey misses & errors late in the fourth. He forced some shots, looked like he’s trying to prove something to Tyreke Evans.

I see alot of potential in this team . I think a nice big man i mean a real center. would help this team get over the hump . next season the piston are going to the eastern finals. stuckey and jonas will have the hustle players we need ,we will have chemistry the guys have gone through the bad together now lets make it better next year.
    GO PISTONS!

The first time Stuck brought up the ball in the 4th I knew we lost it. I could tell that soon we were going to play tentative ball. The offensive looked really stagnant throughout the last 12 minutes. I hate being right.

I also saw Tayshaun shaking his head when we went down six. I mean, I should be doing that, not him.

Charlie and BG, I theorized from the beginning, were only snatched for trade deadline bait to catch something better.

Keith Langlois seemed to feel the 3 team trade for Amar’e was worth mentioning….hmm. I don’t know if Amar’e is worth what he seems to be worth. His numbers are deceptive. His teammate is Steve Nash in a 7 second offense.

I’ve always been amazed how a few wins (even over awful opponents) can temporarily over-inflate a fanbase’s outlook on the season. We are 18-33 guys, in terrible eastern confrence. We suck, we have sucked all season and we will continue to suck for the rest of the season…. deal with it, and stop hoping for the playoffs.

damng guys we have a 7 year streak and its gonna go to waste this year!!!!

    (playoffs)

  11. terry says:

I propose a new piston fan rule; I say that we not call it a winning streak until it hits at least 5 games in a row. I’m sick of 2 and three wins being called a streak, that aint no damn streak! LET’S GO HIGH LOTTERY PICK!!!

    here is my dream trade:

shaq on the cavs for tay & rip

It would help cleveland because both tay & rip will add depth & experience, while shaq is not helping the cavs because he is pretty much a clone of big Z and having two slow talented big men that clog the lane doesn’t help lebron. This is the kind of trade that could give tay & rip another ring, it would put all the ex-pistons on playoff contenders, denver with chauncey & afflalo, boston with sheed, spurs with mcdyess, and rip & tay with lebron.

it would be awesome but it will never happen because no way on any possible planet on any universe would shaq agree to leave cleveland and a chance to play with lebron in the playoffs so he can tank one in detroit.

But for the teams everything makes sense. Shaq’s contract will expire putting us back into the free agency race, he is a great defender, post presence, and since the pistons right now play at the slowest pace in the NBA, he would fit right in.

Just saying this is my dream trade but like most of the trades posted here, it’s never gonna happen.

  13. edt says:

also no way will cleveland want those terrible contracts from rip & tay, they need their money to buy lebron back to cleveland this summer.
