Charlie Villanueva Agrees Too

Posted · 160 Comments

Joe Dumars wastes no time and seems to be weighing no other options.

The AP is reporting

“Villanueva, the seventh overall pick by Toronto in 2006 who has played all three of his NBA season with the Milwaukee Bucks, also agreed to a five-year deal. His contract is worth at least $35 million.”

UPDATE: has it as front page news now.

David Aldridge weighs in at

Damn 11 mil for Gordon + 7 million for CV = 18 million… I guess that’s it folks… This makes me even more depressed about the AI trade ๐Ÿ™

Let’s clean the rest of the 2004 team out trade RIP for Boozer/Milsap & Tay for Josh Howard…

  3. Amer ican Prince says:

  4. Leif_32 RIP FAN 4 LIFE says:

haha good question lol… so far its looking like the only starter from our 03-04 championship team left will be Tayshaun because rip is more than likely getting traded since we now have Ben Gordan. Strange huh?

  5. Sarah says:

They could always keep Rip and trade Prince for another big since Rip can play small forward and we just drafted three sf’s as well. I am guessing we will get at least another big and probably try to get a veteran pg (defensive guy).

  6. Amer ican Prince says:

I wanted Andre Miller, but i guess joe dumars wants to go after offensive guys only

  7. PistonsFL says:

CV is worse than I thought… fake cribs video!

  8. pistonsfan32 says:

why is joe dumars rushing through this. what about hedo turkoglu… they didnt even look at him and i see him as WAYYY better than the two that he signed. there was absolutely no point to the ai trade.

  9. Amer ican Prince says:

so far this is who we lost and who we are going to lose as it seems and who we gained

    Chauncey Billups
    Cheick Samb
    Antonio McDyess
    Rasheed Wallace
    Amir Johnson
    Michael Curry for completeness sake
    AI for completeness sake
    (possibly Rip and others)

    who we gain
    Ben Gordon
    Charlie Villanueva

  10. Sarah says:

I just read that Joe’s focus is now on resigning McDyess….

  11. Ronsti says:

I think this will work out well. I think it is time for us life long fans to let go of the hard nose defense and embrace the high pace offense the league has gone to. I feel a trade of rip to either Utah for boozer or to Phoenix for Amare would be the icing for this delicious cake.

  12. J Dre says:

I’m satisfied with the draft and these signings, and I’ll continue to be satisfied until I see that these guys can’t ball– I still have faith in Joe D.

  13. Come on Natalie.. Ben Gordon to me is worth all that. He is only going to get better. I would rather have the pistons having a all around team where everyone can put effort in and score then having a star player such as Lebron or Dwayne Wade. The team they have here is going to be good. Now if I were Joe Dumars, I would go and pick up Avery Johnson as my coach.

  14. Amer ican Prince says:

Sarah I say let Dyess go, as painful as it will be to see him go, it will be even more painful knowing we are the team keeping him from his Ice, no way are the pistons going to win this next year, we have a lot less talent then we did before, still no leadership, and a bunch of ball hogs, let dyess go to a legitamate contender. Please Joe do the right thing and don’t waste possbibly Dyess’s last opportunity to get a ring with this crappy team you’re building. Even if we go deep into the playoffs, no way is this a championship team. I’m sorry but it’s just not

  15. Vanalope says:

hmm am reserving any judgments till next season. More curious as to who HC will be. I’m also looking at it this way….it sure as hell can’t get much worse than it was last season. ๐Ÿ˜€

  16. Sarah says:

I completely agree with you…I want to see Dyess go to a contender, I was just commenting on what I read a few minutes ago on Joe’s newest plan.

  17. Amber says:

Yeah so we have lost everyone, but I cannot handle losing Rip. He is the reason I became a Pistons fan in the first place. This is heartbreaking.

  18. Amber says:

    Offense is boring
    Defense is far more important

  19. Amber says:

I would pay Ben 5 million a year. Maybe 6 if he loses the ego.

  20. samer says:

i was completely cool with ben’s contract, but ESPN is reporting that the deal is $40 not $35 and i think that is too much for him, but i’ll wait and c

  21. samer says:

let me tell u guys that Joe D. has something BIG up his sleeve with rip hamilton, just wait for it

    stay tuned fellows, stay tuned

  22. Jason Axel says:

I am very impressed with Joe D’s swiftness in the FA market so far. He said last month that these two were at the top of their shopping list and he has verbals from them on day 1. Gordon is maturing every year in the league and with the other guys around him, he doesn’t have to jack up 100’s of shots per game and can really hone in on getting good open shots. CV is a very good player, hard working, defensive minded, he is a good player and I think this team is going to be very happy with him. I do not see Rip or Tay being traded, they need depth, especially with the young talent (Stuck, Will, Afflalo and the draft picks) they need some experience to help teach and show the way to play.

I really believe that Joe will be holding back on any other signings or trades until a coach is named, but even then, do not be surprised to see the roster remain as it is this second.

  23. Lloyd says:

Well here’s what I’m looking at… Rip is on the wrong side of 30 and is on the books for 4+ seasons for 12+ million… Clippers have Camby, Kaman, Randolph and Griffin just chillin… someone has to go and camby is in the last year of a 7.65 deal… you gotta think the clippers would be drooling over a line up of Baron Davis, Eric Gordon/Rip, Al Thorton, Griffin, and Kaman… throw someone in to make the numbers work and the pistons lineup next year is, stuckey, gordon, prince, villi, and camby… daye isnt an nba 4 yet… so i have to believe he’ll be your backup 3 with occasional stints at the 4 against teams with smaller athletic forwards… leave afflalo and bynum to eat minutes wherever with a mix of maxielle and brown… im not to impressed

  24. Amer ican Prince says:

    okay gotcha ๐Ÿ˜‰

  25. Amber says:

Can someone please help me out with Detroit’s potential lineup??

Who exactly does Detroit have for center?? Kwame Brown?? Really?

I don’t like Stuckey at pg. I don’t like Stuckey and Rip together. I don’t like Ben and Rip together. (Yes, Ben played pg in college.)

And I don’t like a pf that Sheed could overpower.

I can’t even imagine what the starting lineup will be.

  26. Amer ican Prince says:

vanalope that’s a death statement are you trying to jinx us? haha

  27. Bobby says:

I dont get the people that say the bg deal is a bad one…

the dude almost single-handedly beat the celtics in the post-season, he’s a proven last second shooter and rip is not. period.

  28. Amer ican Prince says:

my problem is we have enough people who want to shoot the ball now you bring in two more people who HAVE TO HAVE THE BALL to be successful? Just bad. How about some diversity one of the biggest problems last year was stuckey iverson rip etc all probived the same thing, no one to come in and change the game. Now that’s happening again

  29. Amber says:

This is fun. Now Orlando will kill Detroit before Cleveland even gets the opportunity to.

  30. aaron says:

HATERS! guys it didnt work for the past few years… realize that. Its a new era and we have to rebuild. COME TO REALITY! the new pickups are great additions and i think we will contend if joe stays focused and keeps up the winning mentality… all u guys are idiots to me honestly for thinking we had a championship team the way they played last year.. yea the coach wasnt the greatest but u cant blame him for everything. they were getting old and tired of playing together! REALITY CHECK!

  31. The Fluidics says:

I have no problems with those players, just that that was Joes plan was with the cap money. Still, it’s looking like more of the no stars everyone is equal game that Detroit seems to be so fond of.

  32. Amber says:

So Detroit is a championship team now? Really?

  33. aaron says:

im not saying the are going to win it right off the bat now asshole but i do think they have a better chance now with younger players.. now its off to trade for a center or a REAL pg…

  34. Amber says:

Kind of need both to win a ship, and Joe blew that with wasting his money on Ben, when we have Rip.

  35. Ronsti says:

That is why we should trade rip for a big and maybe with that could save a little money or go for a big guy, (wishes-Amare)

  36. The Fluidics says:

It’s also time to get started on what will no doubt be the funniest cartoon face ever…

  37. Sarah says:

what about trading Rip to the clippers for Kaman? We would then have a young starting lineup locked up for multiple years (stuckey, gordon, prince, villi and kaman) with a descent bench (bynum, afflalo, daye, summers, maxiell, and brown). I would then like to see Dumars sign a defensive minded veteran pg and big man to complete the roster. What does everyone else think?

  38. Amber says:

    Still need a pg……

  39. aaron says:

thank u for stating that.. rip or prince is going to be traded for a center.. and pg wise.. the way bynum played maybe just maybe he might get that starting spot.. just a suggestion dont kill me

  40. aaron says:

    i can dig it

  41. aaron says:

but.. only prblm is that is toooo young.. wheres the vet leadership?

  42. Mark says:

According to “sources”; Gordon agreed knowing he would come off the bench. Now I don’t believe he is going to, but I have a feeling Rip might be our starting SF next season. I think Tay is going to be traded. It doesn’t make sense to cut time away from Afflalo and Bynum if Gordon were to come off the bench.

  43. Shaun says:

I agree with aaron , i love the signings! some people need to quit living in the past, i mean i love the pistons of old just as much as the next guy but come on its a new era and time to start over.

  44. Sarah says:

They still have enough guys who have been around long enough in the nba to lead plus prince, and then that is why I suggested adding a veteran pg and big man.

  45. Sebastian says:

I, personally, like these two pickups and was hoping all day long that they would be signed. Anyone that has watched enough Bucks and Bulls games knows that these guys have skills. I do agree that we need another center badly, and the only foreseeable way to obtain one is to trade Rip, as painful as it may be. Joe D specifically said no more drama, and Rip brings his share of drama to the table. The only thing that I will miss from Rip is his defense as his offense is one-dimensional. Additionally, it was McDyess, if you recall, that was adamant about not wanting to end his career chasing a trophy and now here you all are saying that he deserves to go to a championship contender because that’s what he wants. I hope we can get back our 34 yr. old “David Lee” so he can help us, once again, try to make it to the finals.

  46. Lloyd says:

Raise your hand if you can envision tyson chandler in a pistons uniform

  47. Shane O says:

Don’t know what to make of all these moves… I just hope it all works out. Not sure it will but I do feel sorry for whatever coach is in this year.

  48. funny says:

you guys must be freaking retarded…

NO WAY is rip leaving the pistons. o tay for that matter..

the way i see it kwame was not bad last year, we can start him, focus on being an explosive team not some half court nod off fest like the fakers…

if you think rip is leaving…you need help…hell if you think tay is leaving you need help
bg, good guy, great score and charlie v is the most overlooked pf in the game. clearly we are heading in the right direction…

  49. PC says:

I hope this turns out to be the Rip & Chauncey signing part 2.

Ben Gordon for sure is close to, if not at the top of his game. As for CV, he’s been underachieving since he came to the league… Hopefully he turns the corner this time.

But yeah, Kwame Brown, the only true Center in the roster. WTF.

  50. J Dre says:

    My hand is raised.

  51. funny says:

yeah kwame is a TRUE center

sheed was too busy taking 3 pointers and trying to show off his range…he played like a 2 guard in a centers body

kwame has heart and size, and is a pure center, he showed promise off the bench

    i say

    stuckey pg
    rip sg
    tay sf
    cv pf
    kwame c

  52. satan says:

amber wow you are annoying shut up please. u became a pistons fan because of rip?…..cough cough bandwagon.. ur opinions are irrelevent yet moronic… ur an insult to fans who been here since the bad boys and teal era.. just stop ur making everyone dumber.

  53. satan says:

ill allow everything we needed fresh faces and i will welcome ben and chuck… lol maybe we can hear mason do the.. bah bah bah bah ben…GORDON!!!!

  54. yoeye says:

I love it. Most of us have not seen much of villueva, but he is a great young talent. Great shooting skills and post ability. A bargain and a needed position. As far as Gordon…write it down, he will be an All-Star at least two or the next five years. We just grabbed a guy ready to explode. 20+ career average and always clutch.

    Gotta trade Rip. Amare anyone?

  55. mike says:

Charlie Villanueva is NOT defensive minded…in fact I think he is the exact opposite. We are overpaying for CV31 in my non-expert opinion.

  56. brs197 says:

I just had the same thought. My hand is raised, too.

  57. mike says:

I’d really like to see David Lee in a Pistons uniform.

  58. funny says:

stop saying trade rip you dumbasses…what kinda pistons fans are you?! who the fuck would get rid of him? he’s the mantelpiece to this team…we might as well be another bucks if we traded him…

  59. J Dre says:

I just want them to bring back the Big Ben bell toll now that we have a Ben who is actually from Britain.
That could help to serve as one of the few links between the championship team and this new one.

  60. Vanalope says:

hehe good point. Am just going to sit back and imagine all the horrific things that could happen next season cause nothing ever happens the way you imagine it, hence the worst won’t happen! Hows that logic for you? ๐Ÿ™‚

  61. Sebastian says:

Not that it’s going to be like this everynight, but…

  62. yoeye says:

I love RIP, but if he is the best player on the team, we are in trouble. We need Gordon’s clutch shooting and go to ability. We are at our best when RIP gets his numbers over 30+ minutes, but is not the go to guy (i.e. Chauncey). It would be ideal if he stayed and Gordon came off the bench for major minutes. Not going to happen tho. RIP plus a young player could bring a nice big. AMARE! If it doesn’t work, more cap space in 2010…

  63. funny says:

you cant trade rip he’s the leader…simple…no rip no leadership at all….might as well kiss the fac of the pistons goodbye

  64. gMac says:

    fucking Joke!!!
Joe is an idiot, this is dumber than picking Darko.

  65. funny says:

disagree…this will work if they dont trade rip or tay..imagine the depth and shooting and size….it’s spine tingling….imagine ow awesome it would be

but then you nee rip an tay…kwame can manage, i say put some faith in him….he’s like that nigga in finding forester….he just needs someone to tell him h’s the man now dog…

  66. Colin says:

I think adding Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva is a good thing. Obviously we need a change. It has to start somewhere. I know it is sad to see everyone being traded and slipping away but we have to move on. It was really hard to watch the Pistons get swept. Not because of the early playoff exit, but because it’s the end of an era. It’s the end of the Pistons as I know it. I started being a huge fan when Ben Wallace came and that era has came to an end and it was really hard to watch. I think this is a great move to try and move on. We need to trade RIP for a point guard and re-sign Dice. It may sound crazy but there were rumors of CP3 being traded to the D. A package with RIP would be perfect!

  67. Rwalsh says:

This has been a pretty exciting week!!! Anyone questioning Ben Gordon??? Did you happen to watch him the past year?? Or in the Boston series? Thats a bad man and it’s funny to see everyone so quick to judge these pics, the same as Ben Wallace and Rasheed years back! Although this may be painful to say, and I am a Hamilton fan through and through…..I would play Ben over Rip anyday. Lets go stones. And CV is SOLID!!! What we need is TEAM chemistry again and I definately think we are headed in the right direction. Go Stones!!

  68. yoeye says:

I would give it all up for Paul. Never going to happen unfortunately. For the none believers, look at this way…no has been traded (yet). We improved and did it with you players you can build around. Even if you assume these guys maintain their average as a worst case, its a good move. I really think this fan base is going to be eating out of Gordon’s hand by January.

  69. Jason Axel says:

CV is pulling just under 7 rebounds a game, just under a block a game, over half a steal per game, under 2 turnovers per game for a power forward and he isn’t a big foul trouble guy….seems pretty good to me.

  70. Rwalsh says:

    Yoeye, I agree 100%

  71. Colin says:

I know Chris Paul is nearly impossible but how great would that be….

    PG C Paul
    SG B Gordon
    SF T Prince
    PF A McDyess
    C C Villanueva

  72. James says:

I’d be happy if it was 40 dollars ๐Ÿ™‚ more like 40,000,000 dollars. Still good signing

  73. Amer ican Prince says:

sounds like awesome logic to me, it’s like when actors don’t say “good luck” but instead say “break a leg” haha

  74. Amer ican Prince says:

well i think we can probably guess
    PG Rodney Stuckey
SG Rip Hamilton (i don’t believe he will be traded after hearing ben gordon off the bench thing)
    SF Tayshaun Prince
PF Charlie Villanueva (or Jason Maxiell?)
C Kwame Brown (or some FA)

  75. Amer ican Prince says:

i like the way you think

  76. ben says:

doug collins withdrew his name from coachin us leaves us with avery or bill but i dont want bill just because he played with us and coach the spark to championships.. thats women this is the big boys now

  77. Fariduddin says:

this is crazy reading peoples reactions. are people serious? these two pick ups are solid additions. they are both young, and being from Chicago and watching Bulls games locally — Ben is clutch as hell and is willing to take big shots. Ben G. is fearless and can score at will. Charlie V. has an edge to him and plays wit heart… he is also coming into his own… we are talking bout a three guard line up that is potent as hell…. Charlie V. can post and shot the rock…. Our three guards are going to give people hell! and i have a good feeling bout Daye… i think we will all be shocked how good his jump shot is… im happy as hell as a Pistons fan 2night…. yall trippin ๐Ÿ™‚

  78. tdocs says:

Last year Gordon’s 20.7 ppg put him at 6th for NBA SG’s. To find a SG who makes less money (excluding those who are still on their rookie contracts) than we signed him for you have to go all the way down to JR Smith’s 13th place finish with 15.2 ppg. Kind of makes those of you complaining (including our gracious host) about his salary seem silly. Though I’m not sure if it’s sillier than the claim that he has an excessive ego. How many of the guys on the list of top scoring SG’s do you figure you could convince to come off the bench? Throw in the fact that he did it in a contract year and the man is practically Ghandi.

I’m going to miss Rip as much as anyone but he’s reached that magical age where SG’s drop off the edge of the Earth. I will certainly concede that Rip’s freakish conditioning will allow him to weather the years better than most, but he is undeniably on the way down where as Gordon is on the way up, not to mention cheaper. Throw in the return we will be able to get for Rip and this was a heck of a move.

Just looking at the numbers Charlie is already an upgrade over Sheed at the 4, throw in the lack of crazy and its night and day. Just as importantly he’s young and now quite a bit underpaid. He could very easily develop into a star, but even if he doesn’t he is an amazing value.

Any way you slice it we added 2 young players who are guaranteed to be good and with the potential to be great and we got both of them for bargain prices. Joe still needs to add a big man for next season and have a little luck with some of our draft picks developing for the future and we will be back as perennial contenders.

  79. Amer ican Prince says:

isn’t that what people said about Jerry Stackhouse?

  80. Amer ican Prince says:

can’t really judge a player from a contract year when they are playing for money. How many players have we seen play hard for the money then when they get the money they fall off? Just saying.

And you bring up a good point about team chemistry, these guys may not have it as indivuas but who knows what can happen together, still don’t like the moves but who knows lets see

  81. Dominic says:

Well said man, Gordon is a great pickup, people need to stop living with the magic of that 2004 season. I love Rip, and Tay and Sheed. I’ll always be fans of them for what they did to this team, but when an opportunity arises that can make your team better (like the AI trade) you do it, no questions asked. Don’t worry about Rip being a good guy, or Chauncey being a fan favorite, you pull the trigger. We need to trade Rip IF, and it’s a big if, the offer is right. We need a big man that can defend and score in the low post. I like Kaman, Lee, and possibly Chandler if that ankle stops bothering him. With the 4mil that we have left, we should make runs at all the 7 footers (sorry Dyess, we have to let you walk) Zaza Pachulia, Marcin Gortat, and Chris Anderson are all candidates. We need to scour the D-League and pick up another gem like Will Bynum as well to be the 5th big man on our roster. After that we let the pieces fall where they may. Hopefully the result is a Larry O’ Brien trophy.

  82. Amer ican Prince says:

    it seems ben is right

but now it’s just getting the coach we should of got a year ago in Avery Johnson, but this is just sad because imagine what could of happened had joe d gotten it right the first time. Dyess might of gotten his ring, and chauncey might still be with us. I hate could have beens, but this just sucks

  83. Ronsti says:

    Amen for Amare

  84. Ronsti says:

I think people said that about Grant Hill too? Correct me if i am wrong. Rip may be the Mantelpiece, but he is one dusty mantel

  85. Ronsti says:

Is Tay not much of a leader?

  86. Ronsti says:

I agree, Gorden rocked in the Boston series and the whole season.

  87. Ronsti says:

I agree about daye, we took Prince later than that and look how he turned out.

  88. Richie says:

It really does hurt to look at it that way.

  89. Richie says:

Thank you! I hate the west cost, gun and gun style. I can watch that at my local rec center. I want my team to play orgainized professional basketball, where every point counts, they run plays and have a defensize scheme.

  90. Ronsti says:

Now lets wait and see if and when the trade offers come in for rip or tay. I would like tay to stay and mentor daye.(check out my rhyming) Rip could go for big talent (amare, boozer, anyone)

  91. Richie says:

It can easily get worse. Not even making the playoffs is a realistic possibility.

  92. Sleepy Crayfish says:

    Brilliantly put.

The idea that Gordon is somehow getting “overpaid” is foolish. Were people expecting us to shackle him up for pennies on the dollar? He’s a high profile player and deserves high profile cash, which, in this case, he STILL isn’t getting!

  93. Richie says:

Yeah, a group that goes to the ECF 6 times in a row is obviously not a contender. You’re not going to win with a team that likes each other has chemistry and plays defense. Helll no!

  94. Richie says:

I think Kamen’s a free agent that we should have signed before.

  95. Richie says:

The fact she became a fan in the last decade isn’t an insult to people who became fans when the pistons where really good a couple years ago. It’s not like you became a fan in the teal era, and when you became a fan is irrelevant anyway.

  96. Ryan says:

Others might have already said this but the Mavs need a dependable shooting guard, Wright isn’t the guy nor is J howard.

So maybe a deal with Dallas is on the horizon.

A Rip and Tay for Howard and Barea would be interesting to say the least.

  97. Chris says:

wow buddy u really think we could trade rip for Boozer alone, but Milsap too! r u crazy?
we couldnt get josh howard for prince either

  98. Chris says:

wow thats so true you guys might not see it but Joe-D really does want to bring another banner to the Motown & these decisions were heartbreaking but i respect him, he a very good GM.

  99. Chris says:

man i forgot about Stoudemire but theres rumors that Golden State has him locked up so dont count on that one & Boozers going back to the jazz.

  100. Bonesy says:

To all the naysayers: DON’T BE SO DISCOURAGED SO EARLY! I remember when Joe made the trade for Rip. Everybody (including myself) was blowing up! Why would they trade their only star talent (Jerry Stackhouse) for an underachieving role player from Washington? Look how well that turned out. Grant Hill for Ben Wallace and cash? Who got the better end of that deal? Paying millions for a point guard who’s only accomplishment in the NBA was ONE good first round playoff performance? (Chauncey)

C’mon. We have a great GM. Start giving the guy some slack. He’s earned it. Let’s see what happens on the court before we start judging. This had to happen sometime.

And, hey… he fired Curry, didn’t he?

  101. Chris says:

nah man Gordons defintely worth the bucks were paying him & when hes in the playoffs hes all game, we saw that this year, beautiful move Joe D

  102. Chris says:

oh thats no doubt man rips gone

  103. Chris says:

yeah Jasons right i dont kno what the hell ur talkin about

  104. Bonesy says:

I am glad I’m not the only one with this logic. Everything we are doing makes perfect sense given our situation. We can either watch Rip, Tay, Sheed, Dyess, and Chauncey if he were still around for another three years — see them get older and their talent decline, or we can get something in return while they are still valuable and watch the future be set-up.

Why aren’t more people thankful for having a proactive GM who knows when he has to make moves? It is almost unfair. Joe is making chess moves… and he is doing a damn good job of it.

  105. Chris says:

omg they didnt sign BG to a 5 yr/55 million deal to bring him off the bench, no way in hell man

  106. Chris says:

    haha cmon man have faith

  107. Chris says:

    man im likin that

  108. Chris says:

    nope rips gettin traded

  109. Chris says:

ur retarded no one saw billups leavin but he did
Joe-D will completely dismantle this team for a banner, dont count on rip bein there for the whole season

  110. Chris says:

we can only pray yoeye, we can only pray to god!

  111. Chris says:

wow that would be awesome that guys a double-double machine

  112. Chris says:

    r u stupid?
Joe D would get rid of him so quick, watch some basketball before you start actin like you know everything k?

  113. Chris says:

god damn you need to tell every one of these dumbass fans that because you just said that perfectly, its time to rebuild dumbasses i love rip & co. but the past is the past

  114. Richie says:

Hah, one of his top 10 career plays was on Darko in a Pistons jersey and another 2 were from when he was in college. Awesome.

  115. Vanalope says:

no sense in shoulda, coulda, woulda beening though. Don’t know enough about these two players to be freaking out myself. I did see Ben Gordon do some things I liked last year and I do have a bit of a soft spot for CV for non-basketball related reasons. I do like that they are not big namers though as that’s what made me a Pistons fan in the first place, playing team ball instead of being a support system for one superstar. So I figure give these guys a chance and see what a better coach can do with them all next season.

  116. James says:

Pistons still are not a championship team yet, I think, but they are definitely a team on the up now. Hopefully we can keep McDyess and then have a lineup that looks like this(backups in parentheses):
    PG:Rodney Stuckey(Will Bynum)
    SG:Richard Hamilton (Ben Gordon)
    SF:Tayshaun Prince (Austin Daye)
    PF:Charlie Villanueva (Jason Maxiell)
    C: Kwame Brown (Antonio McDyess)

    Plus great role players in:
    Arron Afflalo
    DaJuan Summers
    Jonas Jerebko
    Deron Washington

And hopefully get a big man from the summer league roster.

Pretty confident with that lineup, but we’re still a bit short up front unfortunately.

  117. Vanalope says:

but really though they technically made the play offs it really wasn’t at all like they were actually in them…so they may as well not have gone in the first place….thus it can’t get that much worse other than coming in dead freaking last in the league.

  118. cob says:

    now lets trade for okafor…

  119. Robert says:

    Tru dat! LMFAO

  120. #1 Stuckey fan says:

and that’s why there is reason to believe RIP will be traded…

  121. #1 Stuckey fan says:

Give me a damn break with this PG shit…seriously, we’ll be fine with Stuck at PG the guy only plays a yr and a half and people like you are all over him… last time i checked Chauncey wasn’t a PG at first either (people always said he was a combo guard in his first years in the league)

  122. tbranch says:

    Deron Washington?
Is he going to making the squad this season?
    I hadn’t heard any intimations.

  123. #1 Stuckey fan says:

defenaively it just makes more sense, I still think Kaman would be nice for low post scoring, I guess you can’t get everything out of today’s centers like you used to with say… david robinson or hakeem olajuwon or ewing…

  124. #1 Stuckey fan says:

agreed or even the summer for that matter…

  125. #1 Stuckey fan says:

Doubt it…don’t get ur hopes up for that one. I’ve been hopin from last year, but i don’t think so and they def wouldn’t do it just for rip…

  126. #1 Stuckey fan says:

I’ve been watchin bball for 20 yrs, so IMO I think RIP is def. expendable… He had a bad attitude last yr and that will def play a role in the trading of him… it seems when he doesn’t get his way bad things happen on our team. Remember Joe wants good character guys, not people who are drama queens

  127. #1 Stuckey fan says:

Agreed he can def be at times

  128. #1 Stuckey fan says:

WOW you couldn’t be anymore wrong, i’m not even gonna comment on such a dumb statement…

  129. #1 Stuckey fan says:

yeah and essentially you would have to give it all up for him believe me, the Hornets giving him up would be almost the same as the cavs giving up LBJ or lakers giving up KB24, not happenin

  130. #1 Stuckey fan says:

PERFECTLY STATED THANK YOU! This is what I’ve been trying to get at…

  131. #1 Stuckey fan says:

    I know i am!

  132. #1 Stuckey fan says:

nah not anymore, GSW doesn’t wanna give up Curry and that’s what PHX wants… Boozer didn’t opt out but that doesn’t mean that there couldn’t be a trade in place still

  133. Amer ican Prince says:

    yes they did

  134. Amer ican Prince says:

richie i’m totally with you, and I always feel a certain pride when I see my team put that effort into defense.

  135. Sebastian says:

That’s the roster I’m hoping for.

  136. Sebastian says:

Possible backup for Tay. Plays good defense and has some athleticism.

  137. #1 Stuckey fan says:

Tay’s backup will more likely be Daye and/or Summers with RIP playing minutes at SF if he doesn’t get traded first. I haven’t heard enough about Deron Washington to make a judgement just yet, but we will see. I have heard he has made an improvement and has boasted impressive #’s in Israel so you never know. we will find out more once the summer league begins

  138. J Dre says:

I don’t think McDyess is the answer. Now I love him just as much as the next guy, as he’s one of my favorite players of all time, but I think he’s just a bit too small for a backup center, especially if he’d have to guard Shaq/Dwight. I think we either need to trade Rip for a new starter (i.e. Tyson Chandler), or pick up a big veteran center in free agency. I think Rasho Nesterovic would help clog the middle and could probably be had pretty cheaply. Oh well, only time can tell.

  139. Dominic says:

When they’re all 36 years old in a few years you’re not going to win any ‘ships with that richie.

  140. funny says:

no they said that 1st when stack left the sixers

  141. RIP CITY says:

I don’t know how easy it will be to trade Rip with his huge contract. Most trades these days are conducted under the premise of shedding salary in the near future. It looks like Tayshaun is a candidate to leave for a solid big man.
As much as it pains me to type that I have to consider it.
He is the most underrated player in the league and no one wants him to go.
That means Rip is our starting SF? Uh-oh. He will get dominated by the beast SFs in the East (Turkoglu, James, Pierce, Iguodala)
I don’t get the Ben Gordon move at all. We already had one of the best back courts in the league.
If it’s not broken, don’t fix it.
It can all be justified with Rip leaving in a trade, but that looks like a long-shot.

  142. Trevor says:

Ben spreads the floor as a player who can drain the 3, Rip and Tay can only spot up for 3s when left alone and Stuck Stuck has not incorporated the 3 as part of his regular arsenal.

I really think Ben compliments our backcourt and will bring the FIREPOWER. I’ve heard the “11 mil for a bench player?” argument, but who cares where he comes from if he is playing starter minutes anyway?

  143. Dominic says:

I’m not feeling Stuck Stuck as a nickname

  144. junior says:

both hands raised, bye rip it was fun

  145. junior says:

thats right richie a fan is a fan , u know y? because we all are a PISTONS fan!!! go pistons

  146. junior says:

no amare he is on the way down, my dad is a avid suns fan ive seen a lot of suns games. amare still puts up good numbers right now but his knees are giving out and he has bad eyes, torn retina and some other stupid eye injury 2 years ago.hes always hurt, we need kamaan or chandler

  147. junior says:

mantelpiece? wtf? i think hes starting to collect dust , time to uhhhhh….. get rid of him

  148. junior says:

    uhhhh…… u just did idiot

  149. junior says:

i think the trade would be rip and gordon for chandler and cp3. ahhhh that would be nice!!!

  150. junior says:

yes if u look at the draft analysis they said that daye was the second purest shooter after stephen curry! that is impressive at 6’11”

  151. junior says:

that guy is a athletic beast u wait n c he will be a starter in the future(when i dont know)

  152. pistons 4 life says:

This is all fine and dandy, but a front court of Charlie V. and Kwame Brown is not going to get the job done. So is there a trade yet to be made to get a decent Center? That’s my question. And if you trade Tay then who plays SF? So you’d have to trade Rip right? There’s just too many questions to speculate at this point. But basically if Joe doesn’t somehow get a real C this team still won’t be good enough to hang with the big boys.

  153. Trevor says:

It’ll grow on ya. I’ve heard him called Lil Fitty too.

  154. Leif_32 RIP FAN 4 LIFE says:

Kwame brown is actually pretty good. he proved himself last year.. he will only get better now.

  155. jay street says:

rip is not at all the rip of a few years back….this offense is no longer set to his abilities…especially with the ben gordon stuckey backcourt and i love rip hes the bomb but he might be more to us now as a trade. pZ

  156. Adam says:

everyone tell me something y would we keep the 2004 team if we havent been able to go past the eastern conference finals for years? ya there good but there not the same team anymore things had to change or else if the didnt wed be in worse shape we will ever had been in

  157. aljon says:

if trade for will bynum and taysaun for chris boss… haaa

  158. don’t trade rip becouse that is a big wrong turn for detroit…. rip is a nice leader if tread rip it’s not good for a team…….
