Getting to know Charlie Villanueva

by Natalie Sitto on July 20, 2009

Get to know Charlie Villanueva through our favorite NBA Correspondent Elie Seckbach.

Seems like Charlie has the right attitude for Detroit and my guess is he’s going to be a fan favotite.  Get your Charlie V Jersey right now before the Palace Locker Room sells out.

Follow Charlie if you aren’t already on Twitter.

Make sure you are following Elie on twitter too…he’s the king of NBA Video. Best of all Elie made sure he shared a little personal wisdom with me about Charle.

“CV is awesome, once the city of Detroit gets to know him they will love him – he’ll be the new Sheed”

Charlie V = Sheed 2.0?

Pumped to see CV playing in the red, white, and blue. He’ll definitely be more motivated to play this season, seems like he never really like Milwaukee. But I’m sure he’ll love the D.

CV will be pumped to play this season cuz he said he was tired of losing. He said that to Eli.

Dude…there is only one need4sheed if you did that that’s kind of poserish. Just my 2 cents.

But Love what Charlie is saying

i like this kid i definately think that he has the potential to be an all star in this league as well as BG. He was a great piece that can only get better from here.

Sorry to say but there’ll only be one Sheed. Not on the court, Sheed was so out of the ordinary. The way he’d argue calls when we’re up by 20, his quirky Sheedisms, there’s a reason the site is named after him.

I agree there’s only one Sheed. But still I love Ellie he’s just awesome. I’m glad to have Charlie V here but to be honest i’m already getting tired of all this twitter talk. And I think I read somewhere that he will be twittering during halftime? Man get your head in the game twittering at halftime would be a tiny sign of when he’s not totally in the game. If you are focused on the game you aren’t checking your phone at halftime

The last time he twittered during halftime, he had a monster second half and, I think, the Bucks won.

When I was playing a lot of sports when I could get a break I would try and take my mind off of the game and just relax. It does not take very much effort to post twitter.. maybe 1 minute?

Reply

Patrick July 20, 2009 at 10:59 am

obviously as long as the coach is not speaking to the team or something like that.

Twittered during halftime…..life of the locker-room….papi is not winning me over….I know Detroit needs to have fun, but twittering??? Come on man

That actually motivated him and he helped beat Boston.

Not really “nonsense.”

Thats why they have halftime. You take a break from basketball. When I take a break from studying for an exam i dont think about the exam itself or study more, i take a break.

I love the Pistons and I understand we needed to get younger but this season will be a sad one…..

Sheed > CV
Dice > Wilcox
Billups > Stuckey
Hamilton > Gordon

You could say Gordon & CV are better scorers but certainly not better defenders than Rip & Sheed. I hope the young guys prove me wrong!!!

jeleshan July 20, 2009 at 9:43 pm

uhhh not really.
half time is to catch your breath and regroup…
not saying twittering is a bad thing to do at halftime, i actually think it shows how he can have fun and be positive and motivate himself to turn a game around.. but maybe a tiny bit inappropriate to do every game

I DISAGREE WITH YOU MAN!
I THINK ITS GONNA BE A GOOD SEASON!
OBVIOUSLY NOT AN NBA TITLE BUT A WINNING SEASON AND MAYBE 2ND ROUND AT THE PLAYOFFS.

DETROIT TIL DEATH!!!

Rasheed is on the decline.

Dice wanted to leave.

Chauncey, while still great, has his best years behind him.

Richard Hamilton is also getting old.

Your line on the left is a team of old players due to retire sooner than later.

Richie July 21, 2009 at 12:20 am

I think it’s accurate to consider CV the next Rasheed. Statistiically they’re very similar, and Charlie is a more positively emotionally charged player. He plays well when he’s happy while Rasheed plays well when he’s angry and engaged. I look forward to the younger legs and fewer techs.

Yeah, those guys on the left… you’re thinking of them at their peak — when we won the ‘ship. They were all at the peak of their careers then. These new guys all have their peak ahead of them. It’s the beginning of another good time to be a Pistons fan. You better hop on the wagon now so you don’t look like a bandwagoner!

It might not be a good season, but it’s gonna be an exciting one, for sure!

GO Pistons!!!

One thing you have to remember, look at all these players with regards to age.

Chauncey at 22 < Rod Stuckey now
Sheed at 24 < Charlie Villanueva now
Hamilton at 26 Wilcox now but we didn’t have Dyess then

Reply

Dominic July 21, 2009 at 10:45 am

Got a little messed up, meant to put
Chauncey at 22 < Rod Stuckey now
Sheed at 24 < or = to Charlie Villanueva now
Hamilton at 26 Wilcox but we didn’t have Dyess then

Reply

Dominic July 21, 2009 at 10:46 am

wow wtf it keeps messing up whatever you know what I mean, everybody that we have now is better than their counterpart at the same age

This is from Sekou Smith’s blog in the Atlanta Journal Constitution:

And the Hawks are not out of the running for Ben Wallace, who has yet to agree to terms with Detroit (though, one of my best spies up north insists that it’s just a matter of time before Wallace returns to the Pistons)

Celtics offered us Glen Davis for Max and a first round pick, but I told them no.

We may not be as overall talented individually this year. (except for the scoring department) Tho i think this season will be better. You could tell last season that those players while still valuable individually they had ran there course together. A Change will be good for detroit, itll make it more exciting. Last year with all the chaos, the crap and having Curry as our coach we still made play offs and had 39 wins. I have to belive this season with everything changed and a positive vibe going in to the season we can be a round a 44 win team.

i looked on nba.com today and the first thing i see is AI’s pouting mug on the front clip. the caption reads something like “bench would be a huge hurdle for AI”. Sound familiar? All I could think of when I saw the picture was “hey guys, look… i’ve changed… my hair”.
