Alex Acker Traded to The Clippers

Posted · 34 Comments

Could another deal be brewing? Probably not, looks like Joe is trying to avoid the luxury tax.

“The Detroit Pistons will trade seldom-used guard Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers for an exchange of future draft picks, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Sunday.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the trade hasn’t been announced.

The Pistons might stand pat before Thursday’s trading deadline, instead of trading Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace, despite its struggles this season.

If Detroit doesn’t make another trade, it will clear about $23 million in salary-cap space to make major moves this summer and in 2010 when a slew of marquee free agents will be available.” Via SI.com

On another note, I know one NBA Coach that’s gone, could there be a change we can believe in?

I didn’t think he was gonna be here for the long haul. I figured he was signed in order to have another asset for a big trade. But instead we lose out on lindsey hunter for draft picks?

But anyway good luck Acker wish we could’ve gotten to know you better

I think this signify’s no big trade will happen. Especially not for AI or Sheed who have expiring contracts. Hopefully that stops the Amare rumors.

  2. The Fluidics says:

I’d trade AI and Sheed for never having to see Shaq dance again.

  3. ben says:

wow Joe D u did it big with this one

  4. Amer ican Prince says:

Maybe it’s because I’m a big Jabbawockeez fan, but I thought that was the business right there.

  5. Grant says:

ooo look out, Joe D just made a big move to put us back in playoff contention…

  6. SadPanda says:

Can we trade Curry for a sack of potatoes?

  7. Jaime Ribeiro says:

    BARON DAVIS IN DETROIT!

  8. SadPanda says:

I wouldn’t mind a trade for Camby. He can rebound and block shots, and his contract expires in time for the 2010 free agency.

  9. brgulker says:

Trade for Chris Kaman, not Camby.

Then go after another big in the summer of 09 or 10.

With Stuck, Rip, and Tay and two young big men, we’re still a solid team.

  10. Amer ican Prince says:

You guys hearing Dwight Howard say “Ball don’t lie” at the free throw line? I love it.

Hey baron davis, Marcus Camby, and Chris Kaman all are pretty good players, but I doubt any trade is gonna happen

  11. Boris says:

I would’ve liked to have seen Acker play for the Pistons next season. But this trade to clear up more cap space will be very helpful when Dumars talks to free agents who can take the Pistons back to the next level.

I want to see Bosh in a Piston jersey.

    Boozer might be OK.

  12. Damien W. says:

About Acker: Aww, oh well. To bad we didn’t get to see much of the young Double “A” Battery. Have fun in the sun, Alex!

Fludistics: Hey, I love Shaq. I guess it’s because when he is in the all-star game, he makes it.. fun. Sure Kobe, Lebron and others can give a flashy dunk and a LONG range 3-point. But Shaq gives the ‘fun’ back into the game.

I mean, come on! “The Man of A Million Nicknames” (O’Neal) passing it between “Superman”‘s (Dwight Howard) legs to only get it right back to drive baseline for the dunk. Give me another 300+ ponder who’s been in the league as long as him that does stuff like that.

But I digress… I loved the dance! XD

If you can trick another GM into doing that trade, I’m all for it

    ____

I like Dwight Howard, but that dude needs to come up with some original material. First he copies Shaq with all the Superman stuff and now he’s taking Sheed’s lines? That’s weak for such a strong man.

  17. Juice says:

Who is there right mind would trade potatoes for Curry. Let alone a WHOLE SACK. You might have to go for a three way tade with a dozen empty soda cans.

  18. eralefe says:

watch now Acker’s going to be the next jordon lol

  19. Amber says:

Joe finally got rid of a sg for once!! Now, probably, in the next draft he’ll get two more!

I am sad though…I read trade, and I got very, very excited…and found out it was just Alex. Ah, Joe….

  20. Amber says:

And of course the East lost—Chauncey, Rip, Sheed, and Ben weren’t there. :(

  21. x R 3 M ! X 23 says:

Somthing better happen in the next couple days deadline ends on thurs. Amare better be pckin and head to the D and fast and for Curry gettin fire might never happen for a while him an Joe are like BUTT buddys.

Also no offense to AI hes a good player but just doesnt fit in with the pistons and RIP needs to adapt with not having Chauncey around and made a Rip 4 Carmelo blockbuster might happen XD but i highly doubt it and RIP has sooooo much tealent but just never really uses nowadays.

As for Alex I wish him the best of luck and wished maybe we could of gotten somthing instead of draft picks because somthing has to change NOW! and were in 7th…7th place in the east we r tied with the 76ers?!?!

Some trades i would like to see…

    1.Sheed for AI 2.0 and Andre Miller[76ers]
    2.AI 1.0 & Amir for Chris Bosh[Raptors]
3.Kwame and Walter Sharpe for [Any decent center]

  22. x R 3 M ! X 23 says:

    Forgot one…
4.Sheed & Afflalo for Amare & Barbosa [PHX]

  23. El Patron Himself (Accept no Imitations!) says:

Some comments just for the heck of it (that’s called brainstorming so please save yourselves the WTF remarks!)

    1. I LOVED Shaq’s dance with Jabbawokeez! I posted somewhere that I’ve never missed any baller after retiring (maybe Kareem a little), but I will miss the Big Fella.

    2. I agree with TDP. I like Dwight Howard, but he needs to be a little more original. After all, Shaq did come with the Man of Steel gimmick (historic note: For me, the first Superman was actually George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers. Dude even looked like Clark Kent! He WAS the first Superman, and even Shaq recognized it!). Although it’ll be hard to outdo the great Shogun of Shaq-Fu!!!

    3. So Acker is gone… it’s hard to gauge his impact aside from the cap space Joe’s creating… However, I can’t help wonder the worst-case scenario here… the team just giving up on Chicken Curry and mailing it in for the rest of the season? We know AI won’t do that because the man would rather die than fade away and I suppose McDyess and maybe Maxiell won’t either. But, what about Sheed? He does know his name is on every possible trading list scenario for 2009… Again, this is just me going Doomsday here, so again spare me the WTFs. But, it makes you think a little, doesn’t it?

  24. DumarsFan says:

Terry Porter and Amare for Sheed, Amir, and Curry?

why the pistons won’t and shouldn’t make any trades -http://www.freep.com/article/20090216/COL22/902160341/1051/rss16

  27. fahim says:

The (very) minor trade Detroit has agreed to with the Los Angeles Clippers — sending Alex Acker to L.A. for nothing more than a future swap of second-round picks — appealed to the Pistons for obvious reasons. They were $731,868 over the NBA’s $71.15 million luxury-tax threshold as of Sunday morning. Shedding Acker’s 2008-09 salary of $711,517 almost gets them under the tax line.

    However …

The conspiracy theorists among Joe Dumars’ front-office peers around the league will inevitably surmise that the Pistons might need the extra roster spot because they’re closing in on some sort of Stoudemire deal. The combination of Rasheed Wallace’s expiring contract and young forward Amir Johnson would appear to be Detroit’s best offer — and thus not quite in Chicago’s class — but there are a couple well-connected league insiders who believe that Dumars still has hope of winning the Amare Sweepstakes.

I’ve been playing around with the ESPN trade machine, but I can’t seem to find anything that is both A) An improvement for Detroit and B) Realistic. Just for kicks I put together this huge trade between Detroit, Pheonix, and New Orleans.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=b4tpjk And of course the usual exchanging of draft picks, which the machine does not account for.

Not gonna happen but a fan can dream, right?

  29. Cone(#1 MEXICAN PISTONS FAN) says:

KL: “But you’re not going to feel any need to make a deal at the deadline on the premise that this season is a wash, anyway?”

JD: “We don’t need to, because we’ve already put ourselves in that position. We’ll have the second-most money going into the summer (under the salary cap) – Oklahoma City will have the most, we’ll have the second-most. We’ve already done that. That’s the tough part that you have to do and swallow and go through. So we’ve already done that. I don’t think there would be anything that would come up. I don’t want to say never, but I don’t think there would be anything that would come up that would be viewed like that.”

WITH THAT SAID, I THINK THE PISTONS ARE DONE FOR THE SEASON. HURTS, YEAH BUT IT’S THE TRUTH.

  30. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=dkhx2x

I think a trade of Amir and Sheed for Stoudemire and Barnes is inevitable. It works for both teams and all signs point this way. It even works on the trade machine where we improve cap space. Suns want youth and someone who can spread the floor. We need consistency from the front court in a big way. Plus it would be the first piece of the up and coming transformation of the team when our cap is free of AI’s Salary. TAY, RIP, STUCK, Stoudemire and ????

    This is intriguing.

  31. Sam says:

I used to be high on Amare until I found out he’s allergic to playing “Defense”, do you want another player like that in Detroit??? Boozer is another loser who is constantly hurt after he got the big money. It would be funny to see Bosh and his Texas twang in Detroit and he plays hard.

And I would appreciate it if Shaq will keep his big ass from shaking anywhere, we had tremors here on the East Coast when he danced. I was so afraid he would hurt those Jabbawockeez guys.

  32. junior says:

pistons to reaquire cheik samb from free agent market? was released from clippers to make room for acker. pistons could use the 7 1 center to back up rasheed. just a thought. o and there will be no big trades. pistons will pull it together and finish 4th.

  33. Amer ican Prince says:

I don’t know why you guys love Amare so much. What does Amare do well? He scores. How do you score? By having the ball in your hands. What does he do when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands? Suck

  34. ben says:

stoudemire is stayin we shold get bonzi wells
