Pistons vs. Mavericks

The Pistons host the 24-18 Dallas Mavericks tonight for an early 7:00 PM start at The Palace. The Pistons will try to extend their winning streak to three games with a win tonight against old friend Rick Carlisle and the Mavs.

This will be the second game with new sixth man Richard Hamilton coming off the bench for Detroit. So look for him to keep trying to adjust to his new roll coming off the bench. If Will Bynum does anything it’s going to be getting Rip the ball.

Good News/Bad News:

  • The Mavs would love to get back on track after being annihilated by THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS 133-99 Wednesday.
  • Detroit and Dallas have alternated wins and losses in their last eight meetings at The Palace.
  • Mark Cuban may start dancing

    pistons win by 20 tonight~!

  2. Amer ican Prince says:

    hahaha
    JKidd: What sport?
He’s gonna turn that team around 360 degrees.

    I love JKidd

  3. Amer ican Prince says:

I don’t think AI, Rodney, or Tayshaun has passed the ball to Amir or Rasheed more than one or two times the entire quarter

  4. ryanr says:

SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET! The f***ckin lineup of the last minutes of the 2nd really killed us. Detroit was doing well with bynum, rip, tay, max, and dyess then MC had to bring in AI and move Tay into the 4 spot.

    !@#$%$#@!

  5. Keith says:

    LET AMIR PLAY!

He had a monstrous first quarter (except for the fouls).

Im sorry guys but we are giving Stuckey too much credit here. Im watching the game and I cant see any hustle from him. Yes he can score, we will give him that. But cmon, 4 other guys can score, we need hustle. Turnovers also are way up. He’s growing into a spoiled brat.

  6. Keith says:

We are losing, and MC put TAY on DIRK??? Nice move coach.

  7. Nate says:

The ESPN commentators have done nothing but trash on the line-up’s and rotations for Detroit along with lack of defense and passion. One point Mark Jackson made that I agree with is you can’t play AI for 10 minutes and the sit him for 10 minutes. Curry should know better. We just need a new coach.

  8. Keith says:

But I say I cant blame ESPN for what they are saying. Im seeing the same things.

PUT PLAYERS WHO WANTS TO PLAY! No hustle whatsoever.

Lawrence Frank sent a statement heard around the league when he benched his star players in Harris and Carter for not playing hard. I sure hope Curry has that same firmness and strength not to feed anybody’s egos in this Team.

Im missing Chauncey every single day. FIRE MC. Get Avery. LOL

  9. Keith says:

    I miss Chauncey’s leadership, Ben’s D, Okur’s shooting,
    Corliss’ steadiness, and Brown’s coaching.

  10. Nate says:

I agree Keith. Dont’ get me wrong, I’m totally agree with what these commentators are saying. Players look lost out there. AI has no idea what Detroit wants of him, to be a leader or just fit in. For God’s sake, he’s a hall of famer capable of jordan-esque nights. Feed him the ball. Curry has no idea what he’s doing….the commentators are constantly second guessing his rotations. “Why isn’t Maxiell given the ball more? He’s a beast inside.” “Why are they sitting AI for 10 minutes straight?”

Lastly, the players have no passion out there what-so-ever. Sheed is just slapping at the ball when they drive the lane instead of going up and blocking it. What’s it going to take to spark these guys? All I know is the coach is doing nothing to help with the mess he’s creating.

  11. Tariq says:

i completly agree at one point i see sheed and prince stuck to each other at the top of three, like why arent you moving, i see no passion, and no desire. im sick of hearing were out of it. sheed has been completly useless.

  12. Chris says:

hey Nate I cant wathc the game now, can you pls tell me what else the commentators had to say about the Pistons?

  13. Chris says:

Im readin the box score, why is there 4 guards on the floor with Sheed?hahahahahahah

  14. Andrew says:

look at what larry brown is doing to the suns….

  15. iverson310fan says:

ive been an iverson all my life and since hes come to detroit people hate him there. wherever iverson is thats my favorite team so the pistons r my fav team. can u guys answer my question why u guys hate him? hes a great player

  16. Pete says:

We need to send Avery Johnson the batsignal to get up here…

  17. Onin says:

    Emabarassing….

  18. augustslady says:

Might as well put a fork in this turkey….
I really thought they would show up tonight…lol
    Goofy me huh?
    I don’t understand the coaching at all…
Heck mybe we’ll end up in the central celler like that other detroit team(no not the leo’s) our toothless tigers.
WOWZY WOWZY what more can be said!
    I’m finished for tonight…

  19. Amber says:

    iverson310fan,

Detroit used to be based on playing as a team and defense. That’s what I always loved about it. AI doesn’t have good defense, and he’s more of a selfish scorer, than a team player. Sure, he tried changing for us, but I still believe he doesn’t fit in. I don’t hate him; I’m just not impressed by him, and I wouldn’t be sad to see him go.

  20. Onin says:

Stuckey needs to play like Chauncey rather than trying to be Wade. Iverson needs to be like the superstar he is. Curry needs to play Afflalo more, and use Kwame consitently. Joe D better be watching this game, and see that we baadddlllyy need a big.

I thought the Pistons were gonna show up to play today, but that’s just a slap on the face. They got Rockets next, and they just lost today, tehy’re gonna be hungry on their next game. 24-18, 2 games behind Atlanta for the final home spot, countless games behind Celtics, Cavs and Orlando.

  21. Chris says:

    DEEETRROOITT BASSKKETBALL????

  22. Metah says:

Why did curry go with small ball when we were closing in on a tie/lead

Why did curry go with small ball when we were closing in on a tie/lead

was this in the second quarter? I just only watched until the half. I think MC brought in AI in the closing minutes of the second quarter because all of the cameras were locked on AI, and AI had this look that he’s about to cry because he’s been benched for more than a minute, so I think Curry felt for the guy and brought him in to sub for Max or Dyess.

score before AI went back in: score 47-49, Dallas
score at the half 51-63, Dallas.

    A 14-4 run.

    Demmet!

THINGS WRONG ABOUT DETROIT AND CHANGES NEEDED
    ———————————————
    1. FIRE CURRY, dave cowens interim
    2. mistake: trade chauncey, instead trade sheed…nuthin but just takin up space on the court, seriously he just stands there nothing else.
    3. rip needs to start, ai off bench

BEST QUOTE I HAVE EVR HEARD: mark jackson. why would you get ready for 2010, now wen u still have this year nd next yr.u still have a chance, nd i think detroit is now on step backwards then what they were before

  25. Jun says:

MC should be fired!!!!!!!!!! He is totally clueless!!!!!!!Every top team is playing each game like their last game, but MC is just happy doing his ‘EXPERIMENT’. I love the idea of bringing Avery Johnson!

  26. Nate says:

True, Iverson is not the best fit for Detroit. However, we traded him for Chauncey. Our all-star, finals mvp point guard! It was a change and I hopped on board. Chauncey and AI are totally different players but you don’t replace chauncey with a hall of fame guard who you sit for 10 minutes at a time. Let’s get our money’s worth out of Iverson and give him a chance to lead the team. I actually feel for the guy, he has no idea what this team expects from him. You can tell easily when he’s on the floor, he looks indecisive much of the time. We should have hired Avery Johnson!!!!

  27. Chris says:

I totally agree with you Nate

  28. Nick says:

Its time for a change, because what we are doing now is not working. We need to bring some defense back to Detroit, lets trade for Josh Smith.

  29. Stix11 says:

I love this site and read it as often as i can and think that natalie and the rest of the group do an amazing job with it, but i hardly ever have time to comment on it… but i have to make time today.

i just finished watching the game, only the second time this season the pistons have been shown in Australia, and i can’t get the bad taste out of my mouth!

they looked like they didn’t want to be out there right from the start (except Amir!)and it’s probably the weakest performance i’ve been able to watch out of the pistons for… maybe ever… at least since 87 when i started following ‘em. even when we had teams that weren’t that good they still put in more effort than that.

That aside, what’s the story with the bloody lineups??? small ball doesn’t work in detroit, just because you change the starting lineup to a more conventional one, doesn’t mean you go back to small ball when you make your first sub! now i love stuckey, but why would you bring rip on for tay instead of stuckey? move iverson to the point and let him handle the ball more, then rip can still run off screens and get some open looks and not have to play out of position. or worse yet, coach puts rip in for amir?? then we have 2 of our best players out of position. i can’t understand it.

it’s so frustrating being so passionate about my team and then watching a guy who has played at the highest level of competion in the world, and been around some of the best coaches in the league, sit on the bench and look like he has no idea what he’s doing. no wonder the players can’t figure it out. maybe i should apply for the pistons head coach job… i think i could do a better job with the rotations, and even if it didn’t work out, i’d be more than happy to take coach curry’s pay cheque for a couple of months!!!

Pistons play the celtics next week, and it’s on tv here… i was excited about it, but now… hmmmmm…

again, thanks for such a great website, it’s the best way to keep up to date with the pistons from down under! keep up the great work.

  30. DJ says:

There is no more “need for sheed”. He AND Iverson are washed up. I will be so happy when this season is over and we can get them both the hell outta Detroit. Michael Curry is an idiot too.
It is sad that we have to watch this crap of a team for the rest of this year and probably 1 round of the playoffs just because the rest of the eastern conference is so bad there is nobody to overtake them for the 6-8 spot. The way Dumars drafts it may be a horrible year next season too. Oh well it’s back to the 90′s with my beloved Pistons :-(

  31. STILL ALL HURT PISTONS FAN says:

COME ON MC, WE FINALLY GET GOIN A LIL BIT AND YOU PUT THE SMALL LINE UP IN AGAIN. ARE U SERIOUS!? CAN WE GET THIS GUY OUT OF HERE. HR. HOLD PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE. YEAH RT U HAVENT DONE A THING BUT MOVE OUR LEADING SCORER TO THE BENCH. GOOD JOB. NOW I WAS FOR THE MOVE BUT ONLY IF WE STAYED AWAY FROM THE SMALL LINE UP AND IF AI PLAYED WELL. BUT NIETHER HAS HAPPENED. IT REALLY SUCKS TO SEE THE PISTONS LOOK THIS BAD.

  32. Jun says:

I like this quote from The Detroit News ” Why Curry switched back to the smaller lineup at the end of the half was a mystery” — The answer should be pretty straight forward for all of us here, MC is useless!

  33. SMALL BALL HATER says:

STUCKEY, AI, TEY, SHEED AND MAX INDA STARTING LINE UP. THAT WILL HELP OUT OUR DEFENCE TO START A GAME AND MAX HAS EARNED MINUTES OVER AMIR. HE HAS JUST BEEN MORE EFFICIENT. WITH BYNUM, RIP, AARON, DYESS AND AMIR OFF THE BENCH. OUR FRONT COURT STILL HAS GOOD DEFENCE AND GREAT REBOUNDING. AMIR CAN PLAY HIS GAME AND NOT WORRY ABOUT FOULS WHEN HE ONLY PLAYS 15 MINUTES. AND RIP AND BYNUM PLAY TOGETHER. WITH TEY AND AARON SWITCHING FOR EACHOTHER AS OUR SHUT DOWN DEFENDER. I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR ROSTER IF WE USE OUR PLAYERS RT. BUT MC SEEMS TO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THAT.

  34. ray says:

There is no way the Pistons come out of this a winner. The only way Joe can get away with firing Curry is if he coaches the bloody team himself. It’s like LB used to say, how do you coach effort? That performance (or lack there of) was disgusting. Bringing back small ball after cutting the lead to two. This is why I wont waste what little money I have on going to a Piston game. It’s ok the Tigers will be starting soon and the Wings still have a good shot at another cup!

  35. Mikey F Baby says:

well that was an ass whoopin. Had to turn it off early. MC has got to go

  36. AIfan4life says:

FIRE CURRY NOW!!!! AND NO I’M NOT OVERREACTING, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE PLAYERS DESERVES BETTER THAN THIS!!! WHAT A WASTE OF TALENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Jop says:

    Fire Curry, no other way

  38. Th3 Answ3r says:

Imagine Detroit was in the west. They’d be number 10th seed….

  39. Kleen Gee says:

Curry is sucking the life out of Detroit Basketball. Seems like he doesn’t give a sh** about morale. Morale leads to effort, and the Pistons’ effort is sliding.

  40. pistons 4 life says:

Why Mike? Why do you bother changing the starting lineup when you just return to small ball after the game is started? I think he’s in love with it…. Seriously. Every time a small combination of players is on the floor the Pistons suffer. How f$%king stupid is this guy.

The TNT crew has a good point on MLK day about the whole AI situation. Kenny and Webber said that when this trade went down they should have already known who was going to play what position and who would come off the bench, and it’s true. I remember when the trade happened and I told people that AI and Rip would not be able to play at the same time and one of them would have to make a sacrifice. The simple fact that they are still tinkering with lineups and playing time is a clear sign that no one knows WTF is going on.

When Joe told Curry to coach this team by instinct and not by what is KNOWN to be successful that was a big mistake. Every team that has been successful in the history of the NBA has done the same things over and over. PLAY DEFENSE, have a decent offense, and play hard. That’s how the Pistons did in 04. I see no effort from this team on most nights and absolutely no defense. There is no consistency on rotations which is resulting in everybody being lost of both ends of the floor.

I agree with firing Curry like everyone else, but please, lets just stop calling for his head this season. It won’t do any good. Let him finish out the year, and then his buyout is less $. Also I’m starting to wonder if Avery was pursued after last season, but maybe he said no. He just turned down a 5 year deal to coach the Griz?

The window for the current Pistons has closed and other teams have risen to the top. (Boston, Cleveland, Orlando, Atlanta?) If Sheed and AI are gone this summer who knows who Joe might be able to get. As I said in another post, the Pistons are a C and a PF away from being a dominant team again.

Here’s to hopping the 90′s and the teal aren’t on their way back!!!!!!

  41. altan says:

FUCK IVERSON, THIS IS A BIG LEAGUE, FOR BIG PEOPLE, AND BIG PLAYS, WE DONT NEED NO FCKN MIDGETS ON ARE TEAM

    TRADING BLOCK FOR
    CURRY + IVERSON

  42. marc says:

detroit pistons sucks now! fire curry and iverson. lol~ he’s a selfish player. he’s not belong to pistons…
