Tayriffic without Iverson

Allen Iverson didn’t get to suit up for Detroit but it didn’t matter. Tayshaun Prince caught fire in the second quarter allowing Detroit to mount a 16 point lead against the Raptors. Unfortunately for Detroit, Toronto went on a run early in the fourth and cut Detroit’s lead to just one. The Raptors kept it tight until the final minute in Detroit’s 100-93 victory at the Air Canada center keeping their record perfect at 4-0.
Key Points:
- Nice statistic: Detroit held the Raptors to ZERO fast break points. Great holding a team like that who likes to run.
- The not so usual suspects are really coming up strong for Detroit. Maxiell, Herrmann, and Bynum did the little things for Detroit off the bench.
- Chris Bosh had a monster game with 26 points, but he needed 24 attempts to do it.
- Two impressive blocked shots from Jason Maxiell who finished the game with 6 points and 5 boards in 20 minutes.
- Tayshaun really stepped up leading all scorers with 27 points on 10 for 13 shooting. Now that’s catching fire. Add 9 boards, 3 assists, a takeaway and 2 blocked shots, one coming in the closing minute of the game that clinched Detroit’s victory.

- A stat that we all worry about from the Pistons is looking very good so far this season. Forty six points in the paint from Detroit, just soak it in.
- Each team shot 45% from the floor.
- I know it’s not just me thinking even though Iverson hasn’t hit the floor for Detroit yet this team has gotten exciting to watch.
- So impressed with what Stuckey is doing so far this season. He looks like a vet out there sometimes and the kid is fearless. Rodney put up 14 points with 5 assists in 30 minutes with just one turnover.
- Seriously sweet pass that was good enough to be the play of the day, courtesy of Monday night’s star Will Bynum.
- Another double-double for Sheed who’s been stepping up since the season began. Though he had some trouble knocking down his shot going 4-12, he still put up 11 with 12 boards.

- Will Bynum has shined in the last two games and don’t think Pistons fans haven’t noticed. The guy has already put out some nice highlights for us. Will put up 5 points on 3-for-4 shooting with 2 assists and 2 turns. And boy can he drive the lane.

- Curry pulled Afflalo when he wasn’t playing well and inserted Acker into the lineup. It’s evident that MC isn’t afraid to pull anyone. “Arron Afflalo made some mistakes, and Alex Acker backs up Arron Afflalo, so Alex Acker was in the game,” Curry said. “We’re still going to give guys off the bench an opportunity to play, not just give the starters a rest. Exactly why we should play small ball and have Tay off the bench. He didn’t have to guard any super star this game.
Sheed played fantastic as well, I know he always plays well/focused against quality big man. I just hope this time it had more to do with the trade.
It was also interesting to see Curry’s rotation. I’m on board with most of the moves he made, but why do we put Kwame in the last few minutes instead of JMax? I thought MC wanted a ‘bigger’ man to get the boards. Kwame can’t rebound , he has midget hands!!!

I think that should be a classic
I think Amir will always have a “foul problem” to a certain extent as long as he remains really aggressive on the court.
I think it may take once through the lineup of officiatiang crews before the officials start to give him a 50-50 chance on a debatable call.
That first foul he commited vs Bosh last night would for the vets in the league been either a charge or a no call.
I agree Mike he won’t get the benefit of the doubt just yet. He wasn’t too bad last night but sometimes he does make rookie mistakes…that will change.

Tayshaun still has not developed his game at all. No right handed dribble no dribble penetration NEWSFLASH TAYSHAUN OTHER TEAMS CAN LIVE WITH JUMP SHOTS. You kept shooting jump shots while the Raptors were getting And 1s. That’s why they were closing the gap
I don’t like the way this team is now and in my opinion AI is not going to make this team better.
WHERE’S THE DEFENSE! We are not Denver or the old Pheonix Suns.
Rip is having to work a lot more harder to get shots, he finished with like 20 but they were a hard 20 to get, and with AI coming in I can only assume that it is going to get harder for him.
I was never totally on the Curry bandwagon but I was holding on while running behind, close to letting go of his bandwagon and if I get word he had anything to do with the trade I’m letting go.

What’s the matter with you, American Prince? Tayshaun was on fire and he his shot 10-13, with two blocks. It was a fairly fast paced game, but in the closing minutes Detroit locked down and got the win, including Tay’s clutch block. I don’t see where you get off criticizing Tay for a fantastic game.

I love the way this team is playing right now. And I think after maybe a little speed bump we’ll be even better with AI if he buy’s into the system and just plays his role. The one thing that’s really been bothering me though has nothing to do with this season. I’m watching these games and I’m seeing everything that I thought Flip should have been doing when he was coach. Let’s face it. We could have always had a decent bench but he’d never play any of them consistantly. Our bench is producing because they’re actually playing and they know that the coaching staff has faith in them. That makes a huge difference. And the other thing that would drive me up the wall was that Flip would always make complete starter for bench swaps and I always hated that. Look at what Curry is doing. He’s bringing Tay back with bench players so that he can dominate offensively. Now my question is, if I was wondering why they haven’t done that if years past, how can a coach not even try it. Anyone remember when we’d loose in the ECF and you’d here these little tid bits about certain players not being happy about the rotations. I’m so glad that Joe fired Flip. But at the same time I’m totally pissed off at thinking about how many more times we could have at least made the finals the last two years and possibly even won it all. Oh well, that’s all in the past now. I think this team is looking really good right now and I fully expect to be at least back to the conference finals again. I’m very excited about this season. Let’s go Pistons.

We only played 4 games, against mostly EC bottom feeders. Toronto is overrated as well.
AmeriPrince, Tay was played by a much taller/slower defender he took advantage of it by pulling up for jumpers when given the space. That’s what smart players do. If he had to guard and go against LB, Pierce he would not be this aggressive.
you’re right gmac he wouldn’t be aggressive and he’d get shut down again . Not contained, not limited, SHUT DOWN. like the last two ecf (plus if a player is slower than you that makes it easier to go by them and get the And 1s). I mean everyone seems to have the memory of a goldfish. He played great last year too during the season against a lot of poor defensive teams, then he got to the ECF against the only other legitimate team in the EC and got buried. WHY? Selfish play, bailing the other teams defense by settling for defense, etc. I don’t have a problem with him doing it this game, I have a problem with him doing it every game even when it’s not needed. How many times have we seen Sheed, or Rip or whatever have the hot hand and Tayshaun decides that’s the time he wants to start getting in his offensive rhythm.
And I’ve said this before, unless I’m watching something else specifically I’m watching Tayshaun every play of every game and now it’s just habit. I think he could be an all star, I think he COULD be FIRST TEAM All Defensive team, but instead he just settles for his skill set and hopes that will make him great. I’m rrustrated mostly that no one on the coaching staff seems to ask him to go beyond what he thought possible. And especially with what happened in the playoffs the fact that he has no new skill sets makes me kinda mad, especially because it cost the team two guys like Antonio, and Chauncey
American Prince, get off the wagon we don’t need tourists on board. The team’s 4-0, Tayshaun is playing his best ball ever and Joe D just made his best move since the Sheed trade and all you can do is bitch… get lost.
Now about Amir and Maxiell, I’m a huge fan of both of em, but it’s starting to look like Amir is not quite ripe to be a real starter yet. Way too many bad fouls and he still needs to mature some before playing big starter minutes. Jason on the other hand couldn’t be more ready, he does everything well. I believe that before long Maxiell will earn the starter spot, and Amir I think will play better with less pressure coming off the bench.

Hey you can say plenty of things about me but one thing you can’t call me is a tourist. Even though I say things people don’t want to hear, I’ve been here saying those things for a long time. I’ve invested a good chunk of my free time watching and cheering (and jeering) the Pistons. And I’ve always provided reasons for why I felt the way I do. Save you’re tourist comments for those who say so and so sucks then stop typing. I care about this team and what happens to it, and that’s why I’m here.
Everyone always calls Tayshuan and Sheed the Wildcards on this team, and I agree with that statement.
