Sheedtastic in LA – Pistons hand The Lakers their first loss

Posted · 15 Comments

For the first time in what seems like forever Detroit, took control of a game from the tip and kept it. The Pistons ran off to a quick start and controlled the tempo in their 106 – 95 victory over the Lakers from the tip. The Lakers took the lead just once during the game and made the game a little tight at the finish but the game was all Detroit.

Key Points:

  • Kwame Brown played through the boos and put up his best game as a Piston. Kwame put up a double-double with 10 points, 10 boards, a blocked shot and a steal in 28 minutes on the floor. Not huge numbers but all his numbers really came when it counted.
  • “It was better to get booed this way … I was excited to play all day. I was antsy. I couldn’t sleep. It was just real good to get a win against a team that traded you.” Kwame Brown via The Detroit News
  • Kobe put up 29 (took him 30 shots to do it) very quiet points, most of which came late when he was trying to get his team back into the game singlehandedly. He did have a couple of huge highlight dunks.
  • Arron Afflalo once again stepped up and played well, this time in front of his hometown crowd. Arron scored 7 and played a key role on defense. He knocked down a three at the end of the third that took the life out of the crowd.
  • Sheedtastic is an understatement for the game Mr. Wallace put up against The Lakers. Another double-double with 25 points and 13 boards while blocking 2 shots on the night. He’s playing better with Kwame at center, no doubt about it. He even seems to be into the games more, throwing down convincing dunks and jawing it up on court.

Rasheed Wallace

  • And how about his off glass three with the shot clock running out. He couldn’t stop laughing when it went down.
  • Too many points in the paint for the Lakers. Detroit let them inside for 52 while scoring 30 themselves.
  • Detroit started the game knocking down just about everything. They finished the night shooting 50.7% from the floor.
  • The Pistons led by as much as 20.
  • Highlights of the Game.
  • Another solid night for Tayshaun Prince. Tay scored 18 with 6 assists and 4 boards in front of his mother who was interviewed during the game. If this isn’t an in-your-face highlight I don’t know what is.

  • “But our bigs were the players of the game. Because they were able to play Gasol and Bynum straight up, that allowed Arron Afflalo, myself and Allen (Iverson) to play their perimeter guys straight up. We didn’t have to leave our guys to double down or help.” Tayshaun Prince via The Detroit News
  • Iverson’s play of the game was quite nice.
  • DNP for Amir Johnson, I believe some of that had to do with the way Kwame was playing and how big Gasol and Bynum are out there on the court. I know plenty of LA fans that are disappointed they didn’t get to see anything Amrizing.
  • Pistons were outrebounded 42-43.
  • Richard Hamilton is still struggling, 12 points on 3 for 10 shooting. It will come.
  • Are you voting for your Pistons yet? And don’t forget Dyess….he’s coming home, isn’t he?
  • Impressive game, it was nice to see domination from the tip and to get it in a game you’re playing against the unbeaten Lakers makes it that much better.
  • Maxiell showed us a thing or two.
  • Stuckey put in 17 minutes and scored 5 points. It’s nice to see him back on the court.
  • How nice is it to have a few guys on the team that can break down the defense and penetrate the lane?
  • No will Bynum, but they did a nice piece on him at the half. I will get it up for you soon.
  • It’s still a bit weird to see Iverson on the court for Detroit, but with the way he’s playing I’m getting used to it quickly.
  • AI, along with Sheed, put up 25 points for Detroit. He’s also getting used to where his teammates are on court. His turnovers are going down, but unfortunately the team’s aren’t. 18 turns for Detroit on the night.

We’ve scored over 100 points for a few games now. Much of it was because we had so many free throws in the games. Part of it is MC’s emphasize on guard penetration, the other is AI’s ability to single-handedly get the opponent in foul trouble early. That’s a great sign.

I was at the game, it was awesome.
I was so proud of the team, they looked really good against the “best team” in the nba. It honestly was no contest. At all.

I really expected a LOT more from the Lakers, I mean, you hear so much about them. But we just straight up taught them a lesson.

Sheed A.I. and Tayshaun were amazing.

Oh gosh it’s the best walking out of the Staples Center with your Rip Hamilton jersey on and having all the Lakers fans glare at you! Ahh i love it!

    Not so PERFECT anymore!

AWESOME GAME DETROIT, if they keep this play up they are going to be feared.

Hey Natalie did you hear why we lost Lindsay Hunter? I just saw that the Bulls picked him up. Also is there anyway you can get the interview with Tayshaun’s mother for us fans who can’t watch the Detroit coverage? Thanks! Your amazing! Love this website!

here I have the video handy.

  7. Thoughts about the game…
    1. Since this is not the BullCrappyS*** otherwise known as College Football, the computers won’t give Detroit style points for this one. However, it is a very significant win early in the season. LA was supposed to be the established team, what with A. Bynum and Pau “El Chorizo” Gasol and Kobe, etc. Detroit was the underdog and the team readjusting with AI’s arrival. So, it’s a nice win to get the team on track for the next few days and look forward to the visit of LeBron James and the 11 guys named Pepe.

    2. Correct me if I’m wrong, but AI’s arrival has galvanized Sheed? That or his new tattoo, whatever it is, Sheed has found a new gear… and that’s good for the D!

    3. Rip will be out of his funk pretty soon and with Tay and Sheed already finding that other gear… we’ll soon be at all cylinders!!!!

    4. Kwame Brown posted a double-double? I say GO KWAME!!!! Be as it may, Detroit is a good place for Brown. Nobody’s expecting him to go loco on a scoring spree (That’s why we brought AI) or anything of that kind… we just want him to play some consistent D everytime he’s in. Apparenlty, he’s getting more comfortable as center and if for some reason he raises his game, we’ll have a reliable response against the likes of Kendrick Perkins and others…

    5. I’m really impressed by Afflalo… it seems that everytime he comes in, it IS the Showtime at the Affalo! Add the return of Sir Rodney and the always damaging Maxxi, Rico Suave, and Will Bynum (we need a cool nickname for Bynum pronto!!!!)… and the Zoo Crew is getting back in shape!!!

    6. We play Phoenix on Sunday… seriously, can anyone set up a three-way press conference featuring The Answer, Mr. Ball Don’t Lie, and the Big Aristotle like RIGHT NOW??? Do you realize the comedy potential of those 3 in front of a mic???? Seriously, is there anybody else in the NBA right now who can give you better soundbites that Iverson, Wallace, and O’Neal?

  9. Amer ican Prince says:

steve that’s awesome didn’t notice that

Kwame just confirmed why I liked the pickup, keep it up man.

This team seems to be taking on Allen Iverson’s emotion, rather than Chauncey’s hey it’s just another game attitude, which is a welcome change.

I was going to watch the National broadcast like I usually do, but as soon as I saw Hubie Brown was the analyst I went straight for the local one.

I’m really getting annoyed at the players and Michael Curry for not doing anything to concentrate RIP getting his shots where he likes them. He’s a great shooter, but his bread and butter is midrange not 3s. If the team doesn’t get Rip some open looks he is going to keep forcing shots, and missing them. So in essence the AI trade would cost us both Chauncey and RIP (not to mention how the team is going to have to adjust if Dyess comes back)

  10. Kory says:

Did anyone notice that Rip seemed to have new tattoos down the back of his arms? They looked just like the ones Chauncey has. It seemed almost like a tribute to him. I might be crazy, but I swear I saw them.

Also, I don’t know if people think Sheed’s tattoo is brand new, but I’ve noticed it since preseason started, sticking out from the sides of his jersey.

All I can say is GOOOO stones!

  12. mac says:

I loved how sheed was coachin kwame on the sidelines. Tay and sheed have really takin this trade in stride, rip should be there soon. It seems like everyone is starting to have fun again. I had my doubts at first, but this is really starting to come together. I cant even imagine what it’s gonna be like when they are all on the same page.

  13. Can you provide more information on this for the rest of us far-away Lakers fans?
