Pistons – Sixers Game 5

by Natalie Sitto on April 29, 2008

The Detroit Pistons vs. The Sixers Round 1

The Pistons will try finally take the lead in the series tonight at the Palace. Here are a few things of interest before tip.

Tip off is at 7:00 PM and will be Nationally broadcast on NBATV and locally on myTV20 Detroit. If you can’t catch it on TV you can always tune in to 1130 AM WDFN The Fan or stream it live through your computer at NBA.com.

We all know how important this game is and I have no doubts that Detroit is going to get things done tonight. I will be at the Palace tonight being as loud as humanly possible and if you are going to be there too, I expect the same.

I will leave you with a great comment from Team Need4Sheed member Amer-ican Prince from the comment section….
“Come on Pistons let’s be sailing on a Ship and not fishing on a boat”

Ok I have a theory. Bennie and Jeff have mentioned they were dissapointed by Tayshaun’s less than stellar play in the regular season. Mabe Tayshaun was just coasting during the season so that way when the Playoffs arrived everyone was ready for the 13 pt per game Tayshaun rather than the Tayshaun we are seeing now. I sincerely hope this is true because if Chauncey and Rip can turn on their games that’s a big three right there that’s better than Boston’s not to mention that Sheed guy.

Feeling good about tonight. Hopefully we can all but put this thing away with a big win. Much rather finish this thing in 6 then have to stretch it out to 7 before running into a rested magic team. I pulling for a big night out of Chauncey. Go Stones.

Amer-ican Prince Im loving the quote!

After reading this quote – “After all, it’s one thing to break a nose.

It’s another to break a heart.” – in the McDyess article from freep.com, I got all kinds of teary-eyed!

CAN WE PLEASE ALL WORK TOGETHER AS FANS AND AS A TEAM (PISTONS) AND REALLY DO THIS FOR DYESS THIS TIME AROUND? IM MEAN REALLY MAKE IT TO THE END PLEASE!?!?!?!!!!… SO WE CAN ALL SAIL ON THAT SHIP AND CELEBRATE! :)

I’ll be there. I expect no sitting during the game.

I won’t be there but I’ll be watching every minute. And I’m glad those of you going will be LOUD, for the sake of everything. Because those Philly fans in game 4 pissed me off big time–they were definately a factor, I think. So give ‘em hell, and let’s take the lead. God I love this team.

Did you guys notice RIP walking to the locker room (after game ended) holding his left hip and kind of limping?

Amazing game! It was so reassuring to see Chauncey make his first shot.

Jess, no I did not see that, but I really hope he’s okay. Chauncey was rubbing his knee at one point in the game and I freaked out a bit because I know that it has been bothering him. Despite some of our players appearing hurt, it was a great game and they played incredily well over all.

I’m sure you were glad to be there and that you had a great time, Natalie!

Jess April 29, 2008 at 6:45 pm

Yea I got a little worried about RIP when I seen that but than again I think he’s ok becuase he played through it like a breeze.

Chauncey had that knee wrapped when he did his post game interview with Blaha and Kelser.

Who would have thought after game 3 that we would be in better shape than Boston right now, possibly in the East.

I just read the article about what Chris Webber had to say. No disrespect to CWebb, but nothing he says matters. He was never the explosive force for the Pistons when they needed someone to be explosive in the playoffs last year. CWebb is responsible for last year’s loss just as much as Flip and the other starters are.

It has always been Sheed’s fire, Rip’s consistence, Tay’s selflessness, and Chauncey’s leadership that carry this team. CWebb, with his short stint with the Pistons simply did not leave enough of an imprint to criticize his former coach and teammates. This is not the first time CWebb has thrown his former teammates under the bus either. If I remember correctly, he also dissed his Kings teammates, saying how they were not competitive enough. I feel like he just points out the faults of his teammates without looking at himself first.

I mean nothing that CWebb said in that article is positive about the Pistons. And these are the guys who were his teammates just a little less than a year ago. I feel like he just backstabbed the Pistons. If he really cares about his former teammates and wants to let them know that their ego’s getting too big, he should do so privately, with no cameras around. Not in the TNT studio.

And in Flip’s defense, how many NBA coaching legends are out there these days? Popovich, Pat Riley, Phil Jackson, and Larry Brown, that’s it. 4 coaches, 30 teams. Flip has large shoes to fill and he has taken this team to the ECF finals 2 years out of his 3 years here. Much credit is given to the players, but I think Flip deserves some as well.

Well, anyways, let’s wrap this series up in game 6, Pistons!

I wouldn’t have thought they would be in better shape than Boston after game 3, but I’m not surprised at all that they would be up 3-2 after game 3. Never lost faith in the team that constantly amazes.

Doees anyone know why every pistons jersey had a black stripe on the top left of their jersey? Did it have anything to do with the loss of Robinson?

Reply

The Fluidics April 29, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Yes, in honor of Coach Robinson. They said in the broadcast that they would wear the stripe for the remainder of the season.

and we win a solid, solid game… statement game… let’s eliminate these sixers in 6

chauncey was great from the get-go….no surprise there, we got our classic chaucey billups….no need for mr big shot lets just have our old school billups from 03-04 nba championship!!! lets get this series done and put the dagger to the sixers in their own turf……pistons smells blood and they’re gonna for the kill!

palaceprince April 29, 2008 at 8:15 pm

great game for the Pistons. I glad we finally won two straight. Just hope the starters can come out in game 6 with a very agressive mind set so we can finally close out those pesky Sixers.
Great game for Chauncey. I was reading something about how he hasn’t had a double digit assit game in the playoffs for a while. I wonder if Chauncey read that and came out and got 11 assits.

Both Dallas and Phoenix fall tonight. Man, the West has some good teams dropping, it’s an amazing playoff bracket.

Godd win from the D tonight, showtime at the Afflalo was in full effect, and the guys played solid, Detroit basketball, “the right way”
