Pistons Blown OUT In The Big Apple

Posted · 32 Comments

Ugly is all that comes to mind when trying to recap this horrible game by The Pistons Sunday night in New York. The Knicks outhustled, outmuscled and outplayed The Pistons on their way to serving up one of the worst beatings in Detroit franchise history. The final score of this beat down 65-89.

The Horrible Facts:

  • Had it not been for a dunk and subsequent free throw on a And one from Amir Johnson, this game would have broken the record for the least points in by ANY Detroit Pistons team.
  • The Pistons wisely raised the white flag at the end of the third quarter and put in all the reserves. The score you ask…71-42.
  • When 5 foot nothing Nate Robinson almost blocks a Jason Maxill dunk, you know it’s a bad night.
  • Can you say train wreck?
  • I know we wanted to see Amir get some minutes but if it takes a massacre to get him court time, I’ll pass. Sorry Amir.
  • Inbounding the ball and stepping on the court before you pass the ball usually gets called a turnover Tayshaun.
  • Billups and Dyess, the only Pistons in double figures.
  • I would have that look on my face too if I went 0-for-10 for zero points Tay.

  • “There’s not much to talk about,” Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. “We got our (butts) kicked. They beat us bad. We didn’t really do anything. We gave an unacceptable effort. Now we have to bounce back.” Via MLive
  • 30% shooting on the night for the Pistons.
  • For those of us who stuck with this game to the very end….well we deserve something. I am sorry Pistons fans at the Garden.
  • Amir Johnson 3-for-3 for 8 points in 12 minutes.
  • 13% from behind the arc.
  • Stuckey 1-for-5, Afflalo 1-for-6, Herrmann 1-for-6, Hayes 0-for-5….
  • A lowly 9 assists for the Pistons all night.
  • It was a very bad game, but it was just one game Pistons fans. Breathe…..
  • Dyess put up a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. It took him the worst game ever to get his groove back. Thank goodness, the score might have ended up much worse.
  • Rip…1-for-7 for 3 points. No SIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

  • Billups, 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting.
  • Oh Isiah…

  • “I just got out of the shower and washed it off,” said Billups, who had 14 points. “I washed it off and left it in that shower.” Via MLive
  • Do I have to do this anymore?
  • I don’t think I remember any defense being played by the Pistons, though I wasn’t paying close attention after I saw the effort that was being put forth.
  • The Pistons scored 10 points in the third quarter, that’s right 10.
  • Detroit actually won the battle of the boards 43-40. I’m not really celebrating though.
  • At least I have something good for Team Need4Sheed members coming later today.

Isn’t that what rape victims do?

Oh MY GOD!! THE Knicks just raped us!!!

  3. the fluidics says:

Yep, that about sums it up.
Although, I’m not terribly worried, and I’m sure the stones can bounce back. I’ll be at the Palace on tuesday, the boys will win it for me. I’m kind of a big deal.

your comment just made my life

We seemed to start this like we were still in OT from the night before.

I know it’s lame to say you’re tired, but if ever there was a case for it, it was last night.. It wasn’t lack of effort, but the tank was empty. There was pretty solid rebounding all the way, but as Sheed said afterwards the shooting has got to improve. I think we shot 17% from the field in the third quarter (4 for 23). Missing all the shots and silly mistakes – that’s exhaustion, or deciding to lose beforehand.

  8. Amber says:

“We couldn’t hit a shot and couldn’t stop them from hitting shots and that’s a deadly combination,” Billups said. “I don’t know if it was tired. I don’t think it was any of that. We couldn’t throw a rock in the ocean tonight.”

i’m sry guys but i think i jinxed the Pistons because i went on the pre-game show and said that i felt bad 4 Isiah. then i did make a comment that I wanted the Knicks to start winning games and stuff, well i guess i did jinx them. But then i went back on the Rob Otto Pistons pre-game show after the game and made a comment saying that i thought the game was embarrassing and asked a question about Amir not playing because they are seeing what Brezec and Hermann could do before the trade deadline. So if u guys heard someone named Felicia come on (which is not my name , the guy got it wrong) then THAT WAS ME!!!!

Um annon. 1:51 hahhahahahahahahah that was too funny that is probably the best thing i heard regarding to the game and dyess and amir were basically our players of the game. I think Amir tried to prove that he does need more time and he does have the offensive game but needs 2 work on his defense. HE SCORED 8 POINTS IN 12 MINUTES….that’s another game that Amir has played in and has scored in. Every game amir has played in he has scored, i believe he has proved tha the has worked hard and he needs to play more. I just going 2 try to wipe this game off, especially hearing Lebron got ticketed and i’m just going 2 TRY to make this game disappear in my mind

I think the Pistons players need 2 pay attention to these forums and see how the fans are feeling and what the pain they are going through and what the joy we are going through. Us fans are probably the best you are going to get out here today, so i just think the players and coaches maybe could take in some of the suggestions we share and also feel what we are feeling because there are some passionate Pistons fans out there and all we want is the ‘Ship back here at it’s home in Detroit.

I think we need a big guy who can defend the paint because obviously we aren’t doing that and we are giving too many points in the paint which result to us becoming a jump shooting team. Imma go on stoney and wojo show today around 4 o’clock and make a suggestion to this Pistons team and asking them when is Amir going to get quality minutes. I don’t know what ‘s going on with this team I’m just happy that it’s happening now than in April, May, and June when the games really mean something.

LET’S GO PISTONS AND LET’S GET THAT SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2007-2008 IT’S OUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ALL BOUT DETROIT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That comment about rape victims was a little much. Not really a subject to be joking about..

  11. Sue says:

How about the In my own words with Rip, does anyone have it?
my dvr did not tape it. Grrrr

  12. Natalie says:

I will get it up don’t worry Sue, but I am sure they will replay it on FSN about 10 more times.

I will have to say that I may have jinxed our boys a little in the game thread…I actually said I was happy to be playing the Knicks. After last night however, I don’t know is we could have beaten The Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

  13. Sue says:

    Thanks Natalie! 🙂

I thought Flip was going to play the Rooks when the vets got tired.
what ever happened to that idea?

  14. claire says:

yay, Natalie’s gonna post the Rip video. That cheers me up a lot. I don’t even care about last night anymore!

I gotta admit, I had a feeling we were gonna lose because after the Bobcats game, I was joking with my brother and said “watch, we’re gonna lose to the Knicks tomorrow.” Man, I’m never gonna predict the outcome again….

  15. Richie says:

I’m not one to make excuses but there we should consider that the boys just came off of an overtime away game against charolette, in which the starters played an average of 40 minutes plus. Then they had to travel to New York to play agin less than 20 hours later. That sort of thing isn’t really an excuse, but it’s a factor.
They boys get a day of rest now, then a couple of rare January home games with rest inbetween. They’ll get back on track.
It’s noy like the 2 game swing in the win/loss column is going to propell the Kicks ahead of us in the running for the East. We’ll be alright!

  16. Sue says:

  17. Jamie says:

When is our something special, we could use it today Natalie.

  18. Natalie says:

    It’s coming….Jamie

  19. Sue says:

    “the fluidics said…
I’m kind of a big deal.”

    what kind of big deal?

  20. Natalie says:

Well isn’t being a member of Team Need4Sheed a big deal? The Fluidics is a big deal regardless.

Trade Gayshaun,Amir, and flip murray to phoenix for the Matrix! we need a fresh breath of air and bring back webber please..joe D dont make amir a darko, trade him!

  22. Anonymous says:

I do wish people with opinions that walk the line between mentally retarded and insane would just quielty twiddle their thumbs. throwing up a “trade [insert players here]” after one loss in an 82 game season is rediculous. It was just one loss, a nearly historically terrible one, but it’s a loss nonetheless. And, echoing Richie, our boys did just come off of a tough overtime game with the scrappy Bobcats and have played quite a few games in the past week. Now, though it’s not an excuse for their horrendous game, the fatigue must have had an effect.

Now, as for the above comment, the only one I would like to see traded is Flip. I like Marion as much as the next guy, but I just don’t think we need him right now. And, for some reason, anonymous 11:50, you have something against the Palace Prince which boggles my mind.

Anyway, yes folks, losses as bad as this do sting a bit, but it’s just one of many games that we have against the Knicks. We’ll have a chance to pay them back, and I can assure you that on that day we won’t be shooting 30%.

Go Pistons, have a great rebound against Toronto.

  23. the fluidics says:

Sue 11:30, it’s just a movie quote from anchorman. I felt after the brutal beating, we could use a chuckle.
“I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

    Nat, you’re the best.

  24. Natalie says:

“I’m very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.”

Quite possibly the best movie quote ever… And I have been known to throw out.. I’m kind of a big deal

  25. ric says:

for some reason, i have this imagination that joe d said to the team: “guys, i know its been a crazy road games, this game with new york, why don’t you guys give yourself a break and at the same time it will give isiah a break. just go out there and have fun with it” by the way, who are we fooling that the knicks even have a slimmest chance of beating our pistons. i don’t buy it and its almost like pigs can fly thing.

  26. Matt says:

    to anon 8:56:

Amir hasn’t scored in every game he has played in. There’s actually been 3 times he’s played and not scored. Also, points in his case isn’t a good way of seeing how he played at all. He could score 10 points but play badly, or score none and play great.

Also what does Lebron getting a speeding ticket have to do with this?

I don’t think the Pistons need to read this. They know they played badly, but shouldn’t be stressing over it so much like some of us fans are. They’re taking it like they should, playing a very bad game, but it’s only one out of 82 REGULAR SEASON games.

Btw, I don’t know if someone’s asked this already nat, but can we get a vid of the Amir dunk for those who couldn’t see the game yesterday?

  27. Mike says:

Just farthers my desire to get an antonio mcdyess jersey. Anybody know where i can find one online? I dont live in Detroit, its upsetting the pistons dont have one on their site.

  28. Anonymous says:

As bad as the game was, the humor in this blog brings a smile to my face.

I have to admit I stopped watching early. When you watch them as much as we do, you can tell by how they move and the looks on their faces when something bad is coming. Let’s hope we don’t see this again this year.

  29. yk says:

mike – I’m sorry you don’t live in Detroit. There are plenty of them at Palace Rockerroom in the arena and the mall in MI. But I think you may be able to find Dyess’s jersey in eBay…

  30. Andrew says:

This is one of those games we don’t speak of from now on. We know what happened, but we shall not speak of it or respond to outsiders. The season moves on.

…and who’s the fool that wants to trade 3 good players for Shawn Marion? F that.

  31. Natalie says:

The Dyess jersey was a giveaway that I got.. I have been wanting a Dyess Swingman since last season and couldn’t find one. The do NOT have them anywhere at the Palace right now ..Trust me I look every time I go.

When they finally have the I will let everyone know. It’s a shame.

  32. Mike says:

Yea Nat, I remember reading that you said they didn’t have them, that is upsetting, thanks for lookin out though.
